Two nights ago my son’s short film, Wieder 'Zam, won Best Picture and Best Production Design at the University of Alabama Campus MovieFest competition/festival. This is the first time a drama has won Best Picture at the UA competition. FYI, “wieder 'zam” is a Bavarian dance term that means “come together again.”

The rules of the competition dictated that the film had to be shot, edited, and submitted in a 7 day window, and could not exceed five minutes in length. Wieder 'Zam now moves on to Campus MovieFest Hollywood, where it will compete nationally in June. We are very grateful for the marvelous actors and crew who donated their talent and time to this project.

For those who don’t know us, my son is a graduating senior and a dual major at 'Bama (Marketing and Telecommunication & Film). He was the writer, director, cameraman, and editor for Wieder 'Zam. To view the film online, click on the following link and be sure to watch it in full screen: https://vimeo.com/85224093

Thanks for sharing. Really powerful look at the personal toll war takes on young men and how they carry that burden with them always. Be sure to thank a member of the military next time you see them at Walmart or Starbucks. They deserve it!

Malanai: Please tell your son and his “helpers” that their movie was delightful. Congratulations on winning the MovieFest competition. The movie was very poignant.

Malanai - Wow - incredibly well done movie (from the daughter of a P47 pilot out of Duxford, England). Please pass on congratulations and best wishes for success in Campus Moviefest Hollywood! Although I’m not sure my best wishes are needed, looks like talent will carry your son a long way!

Malanai, congratulations to your son, and thank you for sharing that powerful film. Please keep us updated regarding the June competition, especially with a favorable outcome.

Malanai, I really enjoyed the film, too. Your son is very talented. I hope he continues to pursue his passion for film, as he is very gifted. My son had a small role in the Best Comedy film, and thanks to Malanai’s link, we were able to watch his performance, as well as the same friend’s winning film from last year’s festival. Son is enjoying the film classes at Bama that he’s been able to fit in this last year, and I encourage any student who can fit it into their schedule to try to take a film class if you have any interest in that as they really do have a good film department over there at Bama.

This isn’t my brag. I’m posting the good news of a former CC poster Timeflew. Her D graduated a year early from Bama, and has just been accepted to Vet school…which has been her long-held dream.

This student has special memories for me because she was a NMF who was headed for Oklahoma. I contacted her mom in April of her senior year and asked them to visit Bama. A few days later they were visiting Bama…and OU was history. She graduated from Bama after 3 years. This year she applied to Vet schools, and she just rec’d her first acceptance.

Thanks for sharing that! I had the pleasure of meeting timeflew at a Parents Weekend. So happy to hear her daughter was accepted into vet school.

I also have a brag of another kid. My son’s lifelong friend who accompanied him to Bama, despite offers from Princeton, Duke, and other outstanding schools, was accepted into med school for the fall. So proud of my “second son”!

Thanks, Mom. Friend’s mom told me her son’s roommate and his “girlfriend” have also been accepted into medical school as well, both seniors at Bama and also in CBH with son and his friend.

My son, a May 2013 Bama grad, called me yesterday morning to say that he received admission to UVA’s Law School, which is listed among the top seven schools in the country. We’re thrilled for him, as it’s an outstanding school and just 90 minutes from our home. He’s still awaiting word from some other schools, but it’s definitely nice to receive the first acceptance. The downer: that God-awful orange in the color scheme. Oh well.
