26 ACT is the only thing holding you back

yea i know, I think that is why I was deferred. I retook the test many times, and my score always seemed to stay the same, despite my countless hours of preparation.

Don’t let the 26 ACT get you down. I have a 26 as well, and i was deferred as well, but a kid from my school was just accepted with a 23! and a girl was just accepted with a 26 as well… you look like a great applicant and i wish you the best of luck :)

Well, that’s good to know. Hopefully we’ll be some of those kids with 26’s that get in. Thanks, and good luck to you also.

Does anyone know if they ever overlook ACT scores and put more emphasis on gpa, ecs, and essays? Also, does anyone know when decisions are suppose to be released?

its a holistic process. they don’t put emphasis on just one thing.

Not sure. Being legacy (hopefully it’s a parent and not some cousin 5x removed! lol) I have heard adds a point to your ACT score, so that would put you at 27 if this is true. You never did tell us how many AP classes you have taken so that could be a factor too. U of M accepted 20 students last year from our senior class. None of them had an ACT score lower than a 29 and all had a higher GPA than you. On average they took almost every AP class offered at our high school. U of M looks at what high school you attended and factors that in too. Your ACT is low and GPA could be higher, but U of M does have a lot of instate seats to fill. Good essays and legacy could be your ticket in.

Your best bet is to go ask your guidance counselors how you stack up against the kids from your school that have been accepted last year and so far this year. That should tell you more about your chances than randomly asking here, because you will be evaluated in the context of your school. At my son’s school the kids that apply generally have a minimum of 3.75 uw and a 27 ACT (and some AP classes!). I know they are slowly rolling out decisions as my son told me two more kids that were accepted this past week or so. Good luck!

I have taken four ap classes, and a few honors classes also. In past years, they have taken a numerous amount of students from my school. And moomofthreeboys I know they sent out a wave of emails at the beginning of feb, but I don’t know when they are gonna send the next wave, and thanks. Good luck to your son too!

Anyone else have any thoughts about my chances?
