You're Invited! The CC FRIENDSGIVING and JINGLE ALL THE (do it) YOUR WAY" 5K!

I’ve really enjoyed reading this thread. Maybe we could do a Xmas Jingle Bell Run or something? Maybe I’ll even venture a different way and perhaps catch some Xmas lights in the earning morning hours…

Since it’s the last day, here’s our walk today.

My Christmas exercise won’t be anywhere as scenic.

I’m behind in posting photos but I swear I’ve been walking! This was from yesterday’s chilly walk:

I have been walking daily, but it was pretty difficult the past two days. Two days ago, the snow-covered roads turned icy. Our snowfall wasn’t enough to warrant the snowplow, so the snow got packed down & iced over. I have snow cleats, but I foolishly didn’t think I needed them. 45 minutes in, I slipped and fell on an icy patch. I have learned how to fall, so I didn’t get hurt, but it scared me. I was really near home, and I usually drop off H at the corner & continue walking. I just went in, though, because I didn’t want to fall when I was walking alone. Yesterday, most roads in our subdivision were clear, but there were random icy areas where the sun hadn’t adequately melted the snow. We walked on the grass in those areas, and we walked back & forth on one long, clear stretch for quite awhile. It wasn’t ideal, but it worked. We need to get into our winter routine of driving over to the local cemetery when the roads are bad … they keep the roads completely clear & welcome walkers.

Being in the same area as you I already thought this week “do I have to deal with s_it (ice) already!!?” Our dog gets walked 3x a day but I DO NOT do ice. Fortunately we have a neighborhood trail about a 2 block walk from the house that is kept very clear. I can walk on grass if needed nearly all that 2 blocks to get to the trail - and I’ll be doing it!

Yea - definitely smart to avoid ice when you can.

I intend to get some microspikes, though I probably only use them when hiking (if conditions get tough). At home, I’ll stay in on icy days.

Last time we went up to Rocky Mountain National Park, we stopped first and got my husband a pair of microspikes to slip over his hiking boots. They worked great! Over most of the Bear Lake short hike we took, it was easy for me (spikeless) to find soft ground. But in the shady areas it was definitely treacherous. I was glad to have my hiking pole and snow boots, and my husband lent one of his hiking poles to a CA tourist in sneakers so he could navigate down a dicey hill. (Same tourist, very nice guy, later fell on a flat section of hard pack back near the parking area after returning the pole.)

Met my personal goal for November of getting in 5 miles/day.

December is starting with pouring rain so I’ll be in my basement on my rowing machine. I’ll spare you all a photo of the blank wall ; )

Don’t you love when your fitness app reminds you of what you DIDN’T do?! Come on, glass half full app!!!

I edited the title to keep us going for December!!! :snowflake: :santa: :menorah: :christmas_tree:

It’s a busy month for many and not much spare time for most! But fitness/health is important and besides, we want to eat all those holiday treats, right?!

Aim for a 5k if you can (walk, run, bike, row, swim - whatever). Do more if you like. Less if that works for you. EVERYTHING counts - it’s a way to continue to build our CC friendship and care about health.

Pics are enjoyed - of you, your scenery, holiday decor you see, your fitness equipment - whatever!

The last half of November was a bit challenging here in the northeast, mostly due to it being cold. We did however have a warm day at the beginning of this challenge where I got out and biked about 5 1/2 miles – but with no pictures. Determined to fix the “no photo” part, I went out again yesterday (warmly bundled), put in another 5 1/2 miles, and took the following picture from a nearby bike trail. If you look closely you can notice ice in a few spots, but it was a beautiful day (and is again today).

5 1/2 miles by bike might not be all that much. However, over the past 8 1/2 years I have had some health challenges. I am feeling well and strong right now, my doctors are quite optimistic, and getting more time on the bike trail (plus more time with family) is a gift.

Started off December with a morning walk. Cloudy and chilly but felt good hitting the trail.

I did intervals in the basement between the rowing machine and cross country ski machine. Not as scenic as walking the lake front but work out complete.

Thursdays are my “light days,” so I ran a 10K on the gym’s treadmill.

During the winter, I don’t run outside much because of traffic and darkness. I’d rather not get run over by all those soccer moms and dads. And freeze my behind off.

That’s gorgeous!!!

Never diminish what you do. It’s your game to play and as you say, you are fortunate to be well enough for that 5.5 miles!

I took a nice, brisk hour-long walk in the rain to celebrate the first day of December. It’s 37 degrees and wet, wet, wet. Oh, well … it’s better than 97 and humid!

Well a little late posting but I made the 5k for Friendsgiving. Only half of it was swimming, though. Trying for the full 5k swimming for the current challenge.

Started today at lunchtime!
