does anyone know when the cut off dates for early decision are for nyu? i want to apply early decision...but am not sure i will be ready for the dance audition portion in october...so if I can do it in december...

Early decision applications at NYU are due on November 1. However for Tisch Drama applicants, you can start calling after October 1 to line up your audition appointment (first come, first serve...so do it right away starting on that date). This is just pertaining to ED applicants. The auditions for ED applicants, including those who do the optional dance audition are in NOV., NOT OCT.

I hope that helps but what YOU need to do is research this basic information at each college's website and create a chart or spreadsheet with everything you need to know about each college's process and important dates and so forth.

Amy,
No luck with the CMU audition dates. I couldn't find it on their site either, so I called the number listed for undergraduate admissions in the College of Drama, but got no answer. Then, I called the number listed for general undergraduate admissions. The woman I spoke to told me I could not schedule auditions until early September, and the dates would be released with the application in early September. So I sent an e-mail to the address listed for the undergraduate admissions to the School of Drama, because I'm hoping they can give me a better answer :-)
Does anyone who auditioned last year remember when dates were announced/posted?

I just e-mailed a CCM Admissions Counselor and here is the info she gave me:
The dates are ALL tentative, but I just figured it might be nice to see what the schedule might be like :-) Hope this helps!!!

"The tentative 2005-06 dates for Musical Theater auditions in Cincinnati are:
December 3
January 14
January 28
February 18

There are also several regional auditions, and these dates are also tentative:
Atlanta, January 21
New York, February 3-5
Chicago, February 6-8
San Francisco, February 11
Los Angeles, February 12"

MTBigSis...
From my notes last year with regard to CMU audition appointment making. The requests for CMU auditions must be made online. Before I go further, PLEASE NOTE that this is all LAST year....could be different this year so don't use this as gospel but just as information gathering. It said you had to do your online request by Dec. 1. On October 4, I have a note in my records that I looked online and the website said "coming soon" with regard to audition appointment making. I called Oct. 4 and was told that the forms would go online by the end of that week. Then, THANKS TO CC (!!!), right here on this forum, someone posted that the forms went up right after they did and that was on October 7 and I went to fill it out right away and got our first choice which was Feb. 27. The choices last year were Jan. 22, Jan. 23, Feb. 19, Feb. 20, Feb. 26, Feb. 27, and Mar. 6. You use a credit card to pay the fee online and get a confirmation online as well.

Later on (do not recall when in fall this happened), I was checking my child's individual webpage she was given by CMU to check on her account for materials received (some schools set you up with an account for this purpose). Imagine my shock to see on her list of materials missing "audition appointment"! I called and said that my credit card had been charged and I had a print out of the confirmed appointment and in fact, had made travel arrangements already and it was tied to an audition trip to PSU as well. They were very nice and said they would honor it and that I was to fax the confirmation copy I had printed out (save everything) and her audition appointment was honored.

Lesson, stay abreast of everything. Keep records. Make charts of important dates (when auditions can be lined up, process to line them up, possible audition dates, when confirmed, etc. etc. etc.). As you can see, mess ups happen.

Thanks so much for seeking out that information! That was very helpful. I'm sad they don't have a November audition date:( I was planning on auditiong at Point Park the same weekend because they are so close together. Oh well, maybe unifieds..

Point Park has historically taken about 60-65 to get 35-40 - but it was tougher to get in this past year, as the quality of auditionees is increasing. If you have any more Point Park questions, post them here and I will try to convince one of my very busy PPU students to post! :) (I don't work for them but have MANY students who go there.)

Thanks sooo much. I plan on auditioning there in November as I posted earlier and I'm thrilled about it. Even though I've never been to the campus, my friend is going there in the fall for dance and she fell in love with it. I'm working busily on my audition material. It's been crazy though because tonight I open as Frenchy in "Grease." Hooray! Thanks again for the help! I'll let you know if I have any other questions.

These dates are also from an e-mail. The sender also informed me that if you want to start the online application, you can find the 2005-06 dates and audition requirements on the 5th page of the online app (www.bw.edu/admission), because I noticed that the current printable application has last year's audition dates.

November 4th, 2005 Musical Theatre Workshop
November 5th, 2005 Musical Theatre Audition Day
January 21, 2006 Musical Theatre Audition Day
February 11, 2006 Musical Theatre Audition Day
February 18, 2006 Musical Theatre Audition Day
February 25, 2006 Musical Theatre Audition Day

Does anyone who auditioned last year know anything about the Musical Theatre Workshop? It might be a good way to kick off the audition season! :)

For those of you who went thru the audition process last year, did anyone send in a video audition and was accepted? I can see that we will not have enough time to personally audition for all of my d choices. A few will not be at the LA unifieds and to top it off, her senior play at school is the middle/end of October.

Also, I hope I am not repeating some ones question that has been answered on the thread but does anyone know when Steinhardt's auditions are? What about U of Az?

Lexismom, Forgive me that I don't recall which state you live in and will presume CA because you mentioned LA Unifieds. I realize those from the west coast have to travel even further than some of us in the East when it comes to college auditions though everyone had to do a lot of traveling. It is very difficult to fit in because these are the kinds of kids with training and performance commitments that are very full schedules, and then the audition season is concentrated over just a few months.

I do have some suggestions/comments with regard to your question. One is that you mentioned that your D's school show is in October. I don't know the schools she plans to audition for but all of my D's auditions were primarily Jan. and Feb. She chose to do one in December. I don't think there are too many in October but if there are, they must have Dec. through February options, no? Also, I know for my D (imagine this is true for others) that she scheduled as much as possible around her committments but surely there was going to be conflicts for kids like her who have committments seven days per week. So, once she lined up these audition dates, her dance studio was informed of her upcoming absences and when she auditioned for the school musical, they also were informed of any dates on her form that she would have to miss due to college auditions. College auditions just were the number one priority and while not everyone they work with will be understanding, we just had to do these because lots was at stake. She did not have to give up any of her activities (nobody made her) but if it meant not doing a show, I'd still put the college auditions first. My D also was in a production in November (not through school), directed and performed in another production in early January and was rehearsing all winter for the school musical (which she ultimately was out of the performances due to severe injuries) and was also rehearsing various dance perfomances all winter too. But these college audition dates were set in stone and it was what it was. My D was worried some regarding how many rehearsals for her dance troupe that she'd miss (they rehearse at a fast pace and there were many conflicts) and she even opted out of a music festival she had gotten into because it meant missing even more dance rehearsals on top of the missed ones due to college audition trips but those were top priority and if it meant missing something else, that was how it was. She still was able to do her shows as no shows of hers were on audition weekends.

I'd be quite hesitant to audition via video tape even if they say they will accept them. I get the feeling that they say that meaning as a last resort they give that option. But when we are talking admit rates in the single digits, it seems like a disadvantage to have a video audition when there are plenty of kids auditioning either on campus or at unifieds. Whether or not it is fair, I think colleges put some stock into the "interest" factor if kids come to campus or in the case of auditions, to unifieds. I don't know if anyone is accepted via video tape and it might be a question you could ask directly of the schools involved. For me, I would not take this risk of applying that way. Just seems to lower the odds. This is simply my opinion though I know you are looking for actual experiences via video tape.

Amy, I forgot to post my "break a leg" to you, sorry! I hope your run as Frenchy is a ball! What a fun show and part! I think perhaps you have something in common with my D who just played this part last fall in an adult production. Do you have a pink wig for later in the show? This was one show when my D did not have to worry about various hairdos....she wore a blond wig and then a pink one. I imagine that might be the case with you too. Go get 'em "Beauty School Dropout"!
