Ericsmom: That is good news about Juilliard. We'd all be pleased to see that happen.

jennysg, as you're in Phoenix, is College of Santa Fe on your list? It's a very small school, not mentioned terribly often here, but I've read and heard only positive mentions of the college and its MT program here and elsewhere. It's a program where the theatre majors all start out together, and then there's another audition for the MT BFA. My D is most likely going to be going there next year...and we live in Maryland.

artsymom,
Thanks for the info. Honestly, we hadn't consisdered Santa Fe. We will look into it.

to all:
Now that we have a several new posters, has anyone had any experiences with Northern Colorado University? Several of my d's friends have been excepted there over the last couple of years, one is currently in New York. Also, she had heard about University of Wisc. Stephens Point, but no one has mentioned it here. Not that these schools aren't good, just hoping someone might have some knowledge/experiences about them.

Jennysg, there is a mom on the CC Parent Forum whose daughter is involved in theater and who goes to Northern Colorado University, I am almost certain. Her posting name is Bookiemom. If you go to the parent forum, start a thread and use a subject heading like "question for BookieMom". Hope that helps.

Thanks soozievt..I'll try that.

If I had to audition right now it would be for Ithaca, Syracuse, Florida State and Hartt. Besides those I would do as many walk in auditions for mt and acting at the Chicago Regional auditions as I could. Am I right that all of those four might offer you a spot for acting if you dont make it for musical theatre? My school only lets us apply for five colleges and I dont want to waste applications on super reaches like Juilliard, Carnegie or Michigan. Playing the lottery seems like better odds. I still havent decided on a fallback. Comments?

Gotta bump this thread up! Okay all of you auditioning in 2005-2006 - let's be thinking how we could recognize each other at auditions next year. As I was sitting bored in traffic today, I noticed a bumper sticker with an American flag, and the thought occurred to me - what about wearing a small American flag lapel pin? I've seen them at many stores and own a few myself. Last year there was much discussion about how CC parents would recognize each other while waiting for kids at auditions. They talked about wearing various colors of ribbon or putting a ribbon around their purse or bag of a certain color. I just wonder if we would rather wear something that didn't look so strange! This is just to start conversation - I'm open to creative ideas! Couldn't we also use an idea when we go to productions at the end of summer programs? Just a thought - what do ya'all think?

That's my southern drawl coming out! Weird how we can't know each other just from writing. I'll be the mom with the southern accent. Eric will not have a southern accent (he works hard on that!) but will be the smallest boy there, I'll bet.

Jennysq,
ASU has a very music based program, and may not be high on your daughter's list, but this year they had a very early audition date, a week before OCU. It was a good experience for my son, and although he has decided to go to OCU and canceled any auditions that were scheduled this spring, auditioning at ASU was a perfect way to become more relaxed with the process of auditioning, and it was a drive for us (we are in Tucson) as it would be for you. They (ASU) recently have made some very tempting offers, but his mind is made up to become an okie.
Chris

sounds like a great idea:) or maybe we can just tie a red ribbon our bag or something. I think the pins are pretty common, so maybe just tying a red ribbon would be good? Any other suggestions are great. Good idea!

-amy;)

Chris
That's an interesting idea..ASU for practice. Our D has said over and over she has no interest in ASU but for audition practice that might work.
I'm already beiginning to feel overwhelmed and we haven't begun yet! I'm already stressing about her SAT test...we missed the May dates due to the fact that there is no communication at our D's school so we missed the cutoff date for registering. So she is not taking it until June. She can't take the ACT until August due to the fact that the ACT time conflicts with tech for a show she is in. So, if she doesn't do well and we have to redo tests I'm afraid it may affect her preliminary addmissions to colleges because of the lateness of the tests. They will only have the initial score to go by.
Maybe I'm worrying needlessly. Did anyone else have this kind of situation?

jennysg,

I had to take the SAT's 4 times. I am an incredible student, but horrible test taker. Unless you do early decision you can take the SAT's as late as December.

I did do early decision and had taken my test as late as December. I applied early decision to Syracuse MT or Acting. I was deferred to regular decision, but I sent in my new test scores which were 100 points higher and appealed my deferrment and I was offered an acting spot as an early decision candidate. Which I took!!! SO If for some reason she doesn't get admitted somewhere and she has a new test score with higher results you can appeal on these grounds and possibly get in.

PS-make sure they get ALL your latest test scores. I faxed and rushed ordered and yet I wasn't offered an audition spot at a college and when I called to inquire why it was because they hadn't hooked up my latest/higher scores to my application...they did track them down and was more than happy to have me at the audition.

Good Luck. I am soooo glad it is over. SAT's are the worse.

How on earth do you appeal a deferment? I"ve never heard of it! (I always learn something new here)

To be honest I am not sure. I just emailed an official request to my admissions interview person asking for an appeal on the decision on the grounds that I had new SAT scores. I was shocked they offered me the spot as an early decision candidate after being deferred to regular. I assumed I wouldn't hear anything until regular decision time. But now it makes a little sense because I think deferment for an ED applicant is basically saying "not quite there yet, lets put her back into the regular pool and wait and see" and with my new scores it was "ok, she's there"
Does that make sense?

Unified auditions - The above list is the official list of colleges that do the unified auditions together (I think in several cities); however, many more schools tag along with the same dates, especially in Chicago. Two famous ones come to mind that are not listed above - CMU and NYU (Tisch). They all go to the same hotel on the same dates in Chicago, and I'm hoping Juilliard goes back to doing that this year. To get a complete list that doctorjohn posted when at Chicago unifieds this past year, go to page 5 of the musical theatre thread listing and go to the thread called Audition Information. Go to page 8 of that thread and to doctorjohn's listing from a 2/9/05 post. You'll find many more schools than are listed above.

Thanks so much. That info about Julliard/CMU was especially helpful. I figured the same schools would be in the unifieds that were in year's past, but obviously things can change.

Thanks-Amy

hey everyone, I feel empty without CC this week. Since spring break, things have beencrazy because I'm on jr. class council and I have been busy decorating for prom. woo hoo :) I just wanted everyone's input on auditioning in the fall or waiting until the spring of 2006. I am leaning towards fall just because if I can get in somewhere in the fall and like the school then I won't have to worry about it, but i'm open to suggestions:)

Thanks...it's almost SUMMER;)
amy

Amy--My D is planning to do 3-4 auditions in the fall because musical is going to be Jan-Feb next year. Then she'll do a couple more during that period (kinda difficult), and then more in March, I guess. We both feel that it will be nice to get some done in the fall, too. it would be nice to know what percent of people are selected from fall auditions at schools that do both. Anyway, if you decide to do them in the fall, maybe you and my D will meet at one or more of them!
