That is EXACTLY what we had to do, because my D's musical was the last weekend of Feb. She did three auditions in November, one in January, and had to miss some rehearsals for her musical b/c of Unifieds and NYU in February. You will have advance notice of these dates and your D will be able to inform her musical director if she needs to miss a day or two. Ours was kind enough accommodate my D's complicated requests. When you go online to check on audition dates, you'll find that many colleges in the same geographic area tend to piggyback their dates. This year, it was possible to coordinate auditions for Ithaca & Syracuse, PSU & CMU, etc. This will all take some planning, but somehow it all manages to get done.

BTW, as I posted on another thread, one of our Feb. school musical performances was snowed out --TWICE!! Of course, with re-scheduling all was saved, except some ticket holders just had to miss out.

I can barely imagine snowed out musical performances since we live in southern CA. But I sure can imagine floods, fires, earthquakes, and the like creating problems for performances. I guess we've been lucky! (no jinx)

Thanks, Freelance, for the info about your D's schedule this year. Am I right that your D got accepted into a lot of programs and ended up choosing CCM? So you don't feel the November auditions were a bad idea? Thanks.

We called Ithaca yesterday and they said they will be taking audition appointments on August 1st. They still haven't finalized their audition dates, but they will have them up way before August 1st....

i can't believe it's almost my turn. "I'm going to be a senior next year. I've waited my whole life to be a senior!" haha sorry "meet me in st louis" moment

Reply to jennysg. Your D can take the SAT's in May as a walk in. You just need to go to a large testing center on the May test date with a check for the appropriate amount and ID. Most large test centers have no shows and/or extra test booklets. It's worth a try!

unified auditions - BacktoBefore - I am totally not the best one to answer your question because my son is currently a HS junior, and we haven't auditioned yet, but none of our experienced parents have answered you that I can tell.....A group of schools organized by Otterbein and a few other schools have a unified audition group that goes to several cities each year in Feb. at the same time. More can be found on Otterbein's web site. I believe they go to NYC, Chicago, Las Vegas, LA, and maybe San Francisco (not sure on that one). A number of other schools not on the list of "unified" schools will attend at the same time, at least in Chicago. Doctorjohn provided us a nice list last year somewhere on this forum with all the schools in attendance. I think I previously referred to it on this thread. In Chicago, they stay for several days and are all in one hotel. I understand that you have to schedule separately with each school, but it may help on travel costs.

yeah '06!
sorry...had to get that in there.

I'm having a LOT of trouble narrowing down my list.
....can anyone here do a breakdown of number of people accepted into the most auditioned MT programs? I think that would help...

TotheStage...this is a little rough and don't hold me to it but from our audition experiences and information sessions at these programs...these are about how many slots they have (they may accept more than the number that they will yield of course):

CAP21 at Tisch at NYU: @60
CCM: 22
CMU: 10
UMICH: 20
PSU: 16
Syracuse:20
Ithaca:12
Boston Conservatory: 60
Emerson: 25

Again, these are either the exact number or approximate in some cases based on information from the programs themselves. Remember they accept more than these. But that varies from school to school. Like Cap accepts 85 to yield 60 and UMich accepts about 24 to yield 20 and CMU accepts 10 to yield 10 but then goes to waitlist, Syracuse accepts 40 to yield 20, Boston Conservatory accepts 110 to yield 60 and so forth.

I posted this last night on the Happy Acceptances Thread, but it gives more current information about acceptances for UM.......I don't think the waitlist will come into play this year (it didn't last year either).

I was in Ann Arbor last weekend to pick up my D and see the Senior Showcase preview (it goes up in NYC on May 12 for 2 performances). I was amazed when the kids told me that this year UM ACCEPTED only 24 students and 23 of the 24 have accepted the offer of admission!! In fact the only student to decline the UM offer has a parent who posts in this forum (mommy3's D,who will be going to CCM - congrats to her on the "clean sweep" of acceptances by the way - Wow!!)).

Anyway, just thought I'd share that info - pretty impressive.......

Here are a few more numbers for BFA MT admits.

Elon Univ. 16

FSU 12 - 13 (we were told 13 were chosen this year and that no girls were on the wait list...my D and another girl from our area were accepted and both have gone elsewhere. we really liked FSU, though)

Illinois Wesleyan 8 - 10

Shenandoah accepts 100 (that's what they said!), about 50 come and by the end of the freshman year it's down to 25, by natural attrition. I have to say that we heard incredible singing at Shenandoah...didn't follow through with the audition because of other acceptances, but it was their singing that made us keep it on the list.

I'm curious to know the final number that end up in CAP21 at NYU. We turned it down and wonder if a spot was cleared for some on a wait list?
This is a tricky game for these departments. I don't envy the choices they have to make or the numbers they have to juggle and gamble on.

one word about SAT...I know some high schools coordinate the sign-up process, but as I've learned this year...don't wait for anyone to sign your child up for anything...don't assume anything and double check to make sure references, grades, applications, etc. are in the correct offices at each college.
GO TO THE COLLEGE BOARD/SAT WEBSITE YOURSELF
collegeboard.com and get familiar with it. THe tuition info is a little dated, but the facts and figures on the schools is fairly accurate...and you can look up info on any school. Receiving scores online is the quickest. Scores are posted at 12:01 a.m. the day they are reported. We checked our D's latest scores before we went to bed.
Good luck

SouthernVoice, I do not know the final number that will end up at CAP this year but was told when visiting that they accept about 80 to get about 60-65, something along those lines. So, I do not know that they need to go to a waitlist as they accept a certain number to yield a certain number based on the past, I suppose.

ug, i'm taking SATS TOMORROW. i'm dreading it..i haven't been on my thread in awhile. i hope all is going well. I'm excited for summer to start getting my audition material together for next year:)

Amy....time to go to sleep, lol. Seriously, best to you on the SATs tomorrow. One step at a time. Right now it is the testing that comes at end of junior year...SATs, SAT2s...you just gotta do it as one step to the next one in your goals...getting into a college musical theater program. There will be time for readying for auditions (definitely the more fun of these two activities!). So, sharpen those pencils, check the batteries on the calculator and think....I gotta do this....do your best.....it's to get to where I wanna go....college! Be rested, pace yourself, focus and that part is almost over....and you will be able to say like I recall my younger child saying last year, "I will never have to take this test again!!! Yay!"

See ya tomorrow when it is all DONE! The end, zip! Onto the fun....

Gosh do I know that feeling: "I never will have to take THIS again" has been my mantra through the March SATs and this weeks APs (language and us history so far- music theory on monday). It's such a great feeling to be DONE and know you have done your best, no matter what the score. And REMEMBER (amy) you can ALWAYS take it again- that should alleviate some stress. .

thanks so much everyone for the wonderful advice! I hope I do well today, but i'm glad i can always take it again. I'm planning taking the ACTs in june as well..so hopefully, between the two i will have a good score somewhere. I'm excited when i can actually audition in the fall because i feel like i've been preparing my entiring life for the next year. It's crazy. I'm sure you all are feeling the same or you did last year...or whenever you were a senior. haha i love the meet me in st. louis quote, "I've waited my whole life to be a senior!" :) that was on a thread somewhere. i'm planning on auditioning for millikin in the fall because it's lower on my list...maybe try-out at ball state just for fun. anyone with me on either of those two?

and also remember for you, that you have it so much easier than so many of these other people (other people as in not MT people)

people who are aspiring to go to Ivy Leagues or schools comprable really have to get top top SATs.....the fact is, if you got 2400 right now, yeah, you'd definitely pass the screening process....but it wouldn't assure you a spot based on your auditions

but as dani said, you can always take them again

sorry to say the comment about millikin. I enjoyed millikin a great deal when I visited. It's nothing against them...there are just some personal reasons why it's not in my top three, it's NOTHING AGAINST the school itself. It's a wonderful school with a wonderful program..sorry about the unclear post.

Help - Is it a good idea to sign up (college board) to have your scores automaticaly sent to colleges before you know what your score is or is it best to wait to see if you need to re-take. Does it matter if the colleges receive all of your scores (they take the best but then review all).

Just a little confused on best procedure - Help from the pros. PLEASE

Also, I know I've seen info somewhere on the unifieds as far as receiving applications first but can't recall where it is.

Thanks so much

I never thought I would be saying I can't wait until this year is over but for my daughters sake - Whew - com' on SUMMER!! Test after Test after Test.

I'm a little concerned for her after reading so many posts. She has great GPA but not a great test taker. She has her AP Chem tomorrow and an audition that night. She hasn't even had time to look over her audition material. Just around the corner - Finals and SAT II's - I know we'll be celebrating June 10th.

As I recall (and it was two years ago so it may have changed) it doesn't matter when you tell the Board to send your scores because once they are sent, they send ALL your scores, no matter when they were taken. That is, if you wait until the Fall to tell them to send the scores because you think the scores will improve, they are still going to send the Spring scores along with the Fall scores. You cannot choose which to send and which not to send. And I believe you have a certain number of schools you can elect to send for free. After that, you have to pay per school.

I'd check with your school GC to confirm this.
