we should make like a master list to see how many people applied from the cc forums and how many got accepted (for later on). obviously, everybody won't participate, but i think it'll be interesting to see the results because i think it'll reflect bball's comment (#22) concerning last year's columbia acceptances.

There were actually a lot of Columbia acceptances on this forum last year.

There were, I believe, four Harvard acceptances here. That might sound small, but considering that there were 1,000 applicants, of which 79 were accepted, four is quite a few.

Yeah, but isn't this forum a way to get all the applicants and the results?

You won't be penalized for sending on March 31st, since you are allowed to do so. Don't worry about it. I have 2 classes as N/A's for that midterm form because I don't have a grade yet (my semester started at the very end of January, so midterms are genreally around March/April.

According to what I get on those 2 midterms, I'll make my own midterm form and send it to the other colleges I'm applying to.

I called my other schools to ask how they felt about submitting midterm grades. Surprisingly most told me they didn't want them and they would ask me for them if they did.

Hey, Carrot, which schools are you applying to that gave you a negative response?
I was thinking of sending midterm grades too, but some schools, like Stanford and Columbia, seem discouraging of supplementary material that isn't strickly necessary...

HS GPA: 4.0
NYU GPA: 3.75
SAT: 1510 / 700
AP National Scholar (10 APs total)
EC: Debate, Musical Director of a show, Community Service, Presidential Honors Scholar
Recs: One good, one excellent (President of University)
Essays: I think they're good

does anyone know how many College Confidential people got into Penn transfer last year? what kind of stats were necessary, in general?

Thanks

Hmm, I only asked UChicago and they said that it would be great if I think it will help me. I should check on the other schools, thanks.

You can use search to go back I think to chek for previous applicants' results. Maybe this is the old forum? http://www.collegeconfidential.com/cgi-bin/discus/show.cgi?8/47167 I dont know.

And how did the president of the uni work out for you? How did you find him and what did you do?

"called my other schools to ask how they felt about submitting midterm grades. Surprisingly most told me they didn't want them and they would ask me for them if they did."

every place that i asked, were more than happy to recieve my mid-term grades from Cornelll, not one said don't send it

i think what they mean, if its not required, don't go to the hassle of doing it, it's not necessary

however, i had to do it for penn, so sending another form wasn't a big deal, and it was def a positive thing for me (3.895 for my midterm)

and btw, Columbia said it was perfectly fine to send a mid-term grade report..

Almost all schools appreciate a mid-term report. Of course, they are largely unnecessary (except for the schools that explicitly request them); however, I strongly believe that if I had not submitted my mid-term grades to Georgetown, I would not have been admitted.

If anything, it gives adcoms another reason to look at your file, even after a decision is made.

That's very interesting because Georgetown was one of the schools that said they'd get in touch with me if they wanted them. Maybe I'll submit to them... I didn't give them my name when I called.

Hilariously enough, the person to whom I spoke requested that I fax it to him, instead of mailing, and personally put it in my file.

They need to create a standard response. I'm mailing mine tomorrow. Thanks!

nspeds: i called georgetown again today (and spoke to a different person) and once again they said not to send them and they would contact me if they wanted them. Who did you speak with/ what did you say to get that response?

The plot thickens.

You would think that a college would like to know more about our academic career before making a decision. Oh well midterms don't mean too much anyway. Although nspeds sent it and he was obviously accepted, I don't think you should think too much about this as since two people have said no, and it might be frowned upon (not in a sense that it would affect your admittance, but they wouldn't like it).

um...there is no way that it would be frowned up

so far, brown, columbia, rice, chicago, and duke seemed very pleased with the idea of me sending one....

Ok i guess that was too extreme of a phrase...but if 2 people from the admissions office say that you shouldnt send it, and you do, I think they would be more like "Argh another document :(:(:(, just throw there somewhere" rather than "oh this kid seems interested and look, hes getting higher grades:D:D:D:"

I called Yale and they said that they do not encourage applicants to send more information than what they put in their forms (I called to them see if I should send my resume and my midterm).

Oddly enough, they encouraged my sending a report when I applied last year.
