2009 Deferrals

I just thought I would set up a dedicated thread for everyone who was deferred to post stats, post decisions in the spring or whenever (last year some kids were accepted a few weeks after they were deferred) and just discuss anything. It would be really great to post all decisions even if denied (only if comfortable in sharing). Good luck!

its all about the SAT's my fellow deferrers

Umm apparently not I had a 2200/33 act. I also take 9 ap's and have numerous ec's. Imsure my average (90) is what killed me.

I've only see one person with below a 1300 get accepted guys, DiN's right

Daughter is 1230/1920 SAT
About 90 UW GPA
Varsity sports, lots of other ECs
In-state
I completely expected a denial so a deferral was happy news!

Any OOS deferrals yet? havent' seen any.....

bing would never reject any oos lol

Are these all your unweighted GPAs?

Wow, you guys really deserve to go to Binghamton!

I have lower everything... lower SAT, less APs, less ECs, etc, but surprisingly I got in...

I think it could be my job.. .I worked for Syracuse University doing research for two summers.

I don't think it's SAT scores because I got
1340/1600
However my GPA is 93

My Guidance counselor says their might have just been a cap on how many people could get accepted EA. She's pretty confident I'll be accepted RD, I'm sure many of you will too.

i dont think it's the sat scores because i was accepted with only a 1220/1600

^^smartestgurl: No offense, (I am an OOS parent and alumni rep), but you are an OOS acceptee and are held to a different standard than those who applied in-state.

There is another thread (yes, dated, but appropriate) that talks about how in-state students who applied ED1 to the Hum-ec school at Cornell were all deferred, while OOS were accepted. In this tenuous economic climate, Binghamton (and Cornell state schools) may be trying to front load their admissions with OOS candidates in an effort to gauge how much OOS$$ will be coming in (at a higher tuition)....

Then for RD, they can re-assess, especially if some of these OOS acceptees already commit....

It would be very helpful (as the postees from UNC did) if you created an in-state v OOS acceptance thread.....

FWIW, still haven't heard of one OOS applicant deferred or denied???

That's so upsetting. I would be willing to pay OOS tuition to go there!

oh heyyy: there is a story on another thread of students who have tried to do that...hasn't worked unfortunately...

what I do think is unfortunate for NYS students is that there really isn't another public around that is trying to increase their OOS students....at some point, taxpayers in NY will rebel and someone will introduce legislation similar to that in North Carolina where only a certain % of OOS students are permitted.....until that time, however, NYS students will be held to a higher standard, especially at Binghamton. Not sure about other SUNY campuses though.....

rodney:higher standard?
do you mean admission stats wise?
