First Page!

I participated in few activities my first semester in college. I'm going to submit my application later on next semester because I am going to start doing volunteer work and another major extra-curricular. However, that part of the application is going to be very sparse. As a freshman in college, should I add activities from high school?

I would but it down cause your only a freshman, so they will probably look at your hs stats more.

Thanks! Sorry I have so many questions...doing apps as a high school senior is so much less complicated.

I know what you mean.

I think I'm going to send in my high school resume - I did so much in high school and it's only been a semester here (I have like 1 club and 1 activity - it's pretty impossible to do more than that and get adjusted to college life).

Good idea.

hi everyone! im trying to transfer to nyu cas for fall 09 from carnegie mellon...does anyone know what they're looking for in a transfer essay? i'm writing about a meeting i had with a professor where we talked about why i'm not happy with CMU...is that too out there for a transfer essay? are they looking for something more straightforward?

thanks and good luck to everyone!! hope to see you next year!!

hey geb90,
definitely sounds like a cool idea for an essay, but you should include why you want to come to NYU in the first place. The hugest difference between the freshman essays and transfer essays are that the transfer essays need to be straightforward and direct versus creative story-telling, although I believe that it could be possible to do both if well-written. Hope this helps!!

geb90 just dont make the essay sound like your trashing the school, but your essay sounds like a good idea.

Can you upload a resume onto Embark? If so, where?

You can. I think its on the 6th or 7th page of the application. YOu just click the upload essay.

Could we possibly see some more stats? Happy new year everyone!

i'm applying to nyu through the community college opportunity program - steinhardt. i was nominated by my advisor for the scholarship and everything. does anyone know if being nominated for this program helps your chance of acceptance? thanks!

Applying to: Stern School of Business
Applying for: Fall 09
Applying as: Junior

HS GPA: 3.54
Did not take SAT in HS

California CC
Current GPA: 3.8
SAT: 1430/2100 – I’ve taken it twice now. Both of them were taken in the Fall 08 semester. I didn’t study much so I’m going to take it one last time; I know I can improve it. Will it look bad to take it a third time?

Units: 105 semester units by the end of spring – 30 of these units were taken during High school; technically I will have attended the CC for 2.5 years now. Will this hurt my chances?

Also

My college workload has fluctuated a lot as well. I could only take a maximum of 10 semester units while I was attending high school. Subsequently, once I graduated high school, I doubled/tripled my college workload. In Fall 07’ I took 20 units. Spring 08’ I took 28. During this time I was working around 15 hours a week. I got all A’s and one B for those 2 semesters. Because I already had 85 units in total, I only took 10 units this semester (Fall 08) and will be taking only 10 again in Spring 09.

I’ve gotten A’s in ALL my prerequisite courses (econ, calc 1-3, accounting, business). As well as general ed (history, English, science). However, I had a hard time with Spanish, B’s in all three classes (level 1,2,3) that is pulling my GPA down.

Unfortunately I got a D in one of my English writing courses; my teacher did not like me. I retook the class in the summer and got an A. How should I address this in my application? Also I had to withdraw from another course the next summer due to an injury.

I have a few EC’s
President of school Honor Society
Karate
Jiu-Jitsu
Weightlifting

I work as a karate instructor (for kids) and as a tutor at the CC. I work on average 15-20 hours per week.

I have 2 excellent recs from my Accounting professor and my Economics professor.
I’m confident I can write meaningful and concise essays.
I am 17.

What are my chances?
Thanks!

supa- you sound like a very strong applicant

I received a D fall term freshman year (Econ) and I'm not sure how to address that either...

this thread was doing so well.

hey everyone I'm applying as a transfer for fall 2009 as well =]
I'm currently a sophomore and I have 55 credits completed at a 4-year top 100 university.
So after reading through this thread, I wouldn't need to send my SAT scores? so does that mean they don't look at SAT/SAT2/AP Scores? How important is high school gpa?

good luck to everyone!! I'm excited.

hey fouette!
if you are transferring as a junior, then yes, SAT scores in general are no longer necessary. They also don't look at AP scores at all, but you should report them for credit purposes and our high school gpa won't matter very much either. Good luck and hope to see you next year!!
