2009 Fall Transfer To NYU

Well I made a 3.91 this semester, which brings my cum. gpa up to a 3.87. If I make an A in both of my summer classes, it should rise up to a 3.88. Hopefully I’ll have a better shot at NYU when I apply in the fall because of this.

So I was told my decision was in the mail by a admissions counselor and I was just able to create my net ID and nyu email address. This means I’m in right?

i LIKE lafayette. they’re easily some of the nicer dorms on campus for transfer students now that Water Street is gone. my room here at Lafayette has a walk-in closet and hardwood floors, high windows and a ridiculously high ceiling. yes, everything kind of shuts down in the Financial District after 8, but that’s what subways and cabs are for. most of the rooms i’ve seen here in Lafayette are really nice. there are RAs here who run events just for transfer students and they do things like go to the Bronx Zoo or ice skating at Rockefeller Center or go to Broadway shows at little to no cost to the student.

Turns out my gpa was actually boosted to a 3.88 instead of a 3.87.

Anyway, since I see everyone is discussing living arrangements, are you able to have a separate bedroom in most of the dorm buildings at NYU?

would you suggest lafayette over the other 3? or do you have any experience with the other ones?

eh, i haven’t received anything from CAS and i can’t login to NetID using my SS#

not looking good

on the same boat

So here is my situation: I dropped out of college after my first semester freshman year in 2004 with terrible grades. I had a great story to tell about my substance abuse problem from that time, blah blah blah in my essay. Since then I worked at real estate investment fund for 4 year in LA. I went back to school last August. I took 1 summer course and 6 fall courses and earned a cumulative GPA of 3.71.

I applied to Gallatin in April and I am attending Pace right now (which is terrible). I have not heard back yet, nor can I login using my Net ID/SSN.

I called and spoke with admissions today, quickly, without mentioning my name, etc., who told me most mailings are going out next week.

Should I be worried?

Also, I applied to Columbia as an early transfer. They called two weeks ago and told me that they need to see my spring grades, which I hope are as high or higher then the fall.

What do you guys think?

hey East89…i was just looking through the thread and see you attend GSU too! i go there as well, but am trying to transfer out to NYU - CAS. What college are you in?

I’m applying for CAS too. I’m going to try for the spring 2010 semester though so I can build up some of my ECs

Do you think the longer we wait the less chance we have of getting in? I called today and they’re still reviewing my application

I think it depends all on how the school batches them. Some schools batch them by region, so International, New England, New York and New Jersey, Mid Atlantic, etc. Most schools tend to split their applications like that, with it already split between schools. They may also be slowly trickling applications out so that they can get a better feel on how many students will be returning and/or how many spots are available in the class. It is much more difficult to do the math to figure out what the perfect amount of transfers to accept is.

is it weird that i received my financial aid stuff in the mail before my actual acceptance packet? o_O

I have been reading this thread and just made an account. I got accepted today, so I thought I might put down all the information I knew. I got accepted to Gallatin. The letter said that over 4, 250 students applied(I think it was over 5,000 last year- so hopefully that is good news). My netID also did not work and I had to use my SS number to activate my account. The letter was dated May 6, 2009 and I live in Central New York, so it took two days to reach me. I was also asked to send in my midterm grade report and did on April 23. I have not received a financial aid packet yet. I also read a thread on the official NYU website that said the majority of the decisions were to be mailed out next week. Good luck everyone!

Congrts Melyssa!!!
They asked me for midterm grades, too. How many credits have you completed and what were your midterm grades, if you don’t mind me asking ?

Thank you! Am I allowed to put what university I went to? Because I have noticed a lot of people just say “I went to a competitive one” or something like that. The first semester I got a 3.23 GPA and when I sent in the midterm grades it was about a 3.4 (I say about because I had one teacher who gave me a slashed grade). So it was an improvement. I took 14 credits the first semester, but they only accepted 13, I think because the 1 credit was a P/F (mandatory for my major). I took 16 credits this semester. But I also took SUPA (Syracuse University Project Advance) courses in high school and AP. I came into college with 19 credits from high school courses. They were not added into my GPA though.

NYU doesn’t have a second choice correct?

Do you mean second choice within NYU as to which school? No. But you can get LSP which is where pretty much every course is prescribed for you and everyone in it hates it.

As in, rejected to CAS as a first choice but got into Tisch as a second choice?

You can only to apply to one school per application period but you could get rejected at CAS and reapply to Tisch, but not both at once.
