2009 Fall Transfer To NYU

3.73. Stern Junior Transfer.

I got accepted tp the Steinhardt School for fall 2009. I am not going, it is way too expensive even with some nice scholarships I received. I am in a community college in NY, in the Honor’s Program and have a 3.9 overall average. I was accepted to NYU, U of Maryland College Park and SUNY Stony Brook. The only other school I applied to was Cornell, but I was just rejected for there. I am going to Stony Brook since it is a great school at a great price and I want to go on to law school where I know I am going to be in heavy debt!!! No use putting myself there now for my BA when Mom and Dad are paying the tab on these less expensive schools so far!!! If I had gone to NYU (which I would’ve loved) I would have had to take out loans to attend.

is there anyone still waiting for the decision?

Made it to Stern. Target graduation end 2010.

notified on May 22nd

I got waitlisted @ steinhardt :frowning: …I was told they had an overwhelming amount of qualified applicants for fall 2009, more than they can accept in a year. I’m still waiting to hear from GWU but I really wanted to have the option. What are the chances of getting off of the waitlist and what can I do to better my chances?

tshudel- I got accepted to Steinhardt but I have to turn it down- I am going to send them notice of this so PLEASE wait because you might get my spot!!! Wouldn’t that be just unbelievable??? I hope that happens! GOOD LUCK- but be aware there still are spots taken that are going to be opened up soon!

Thanks for the luck! I applied through CCTOP and was told that I’m at the top of the list so theres a chance of getting off of it, otherwise I will probably be at stony brook with you. What CC did you go to? I went to suffolk

Hilarious, tshudel, I also applied through CCTOP and just graduated from Suffolk Honor’s Program!!! I was at the Ammerman Campus. What a riot- small world, huh?! I only applied to Steinhardt because I was told that was where all the money was!!! I actually got a nice FA package but not nearly enough for me to go, so I am really hoping you get my spot! How funny is this?!

As excited as I am that you’re turning down the acceptance I’m sad that it has to be because of financial reasons but you know what? Stony Brook is an amazing school and now you can save your debt for law school lol. I also applied to Steinhardt for that reason otherwise I probably would have applied to CAS. I also graduated from SCCC honors program except I attended the Eastern campus. This is so weird…hopefully its a sign! good luck at SB!

Thanks, tshedel. Did you go to the graduation yesterday? I didn’t go to that, I just went to the honor’s convocation May13th. I am e mailing NYU today to let them know my final decision and hopefully you are the one they pick to fill my spot!!!
That is exactly what I am doing- saving all the debt I will be in for law school. Now my parents are paying for everything so I don’t owe a cent. With NYU I was down to around $36,000.00 and that was still too much. I didn’t get the entire $22,500.00 in aid they said I would because some of it is need-based and I guess I am not needy (ha ha) so I only got $16,500.00 in scholarships and that is with the PTK money too (which is $2,500.00). I hope you get ALL the money and my spot and use it to the max!!!

I didn’t go to graduation or the honor’s convocation. I had three finals the day after the convocation and I live an hour and twenty minutes away from ammerman so Its ok, I got my pin and metal in the mail lol, and I figured I’d save graduation for when I get my bachelors. I really hope it works out that I get your spot, I emailed Bart Grachan today to find out who I can contact in admissions to write a letter of interest so hopefully that helps. What program did you apply for in steinhardt? My financial aid package will look weak on the need based side I know it. I’m paying for school myself but my FA still goes off of my parents income, who are exactly “hurting”. The waiting game is getting to me though, I hope this process is quick!

anyone else on the waitlist?

For those accepted a while ago, what happens after you pay the housing deposit? Do you get an opportunity to request one of the 4 dorms they seem to put transfers in? Assigned one? What happens next? Tuition and housing deposits paid last week, but no further word. Any help appreciated.

Does anyone know the minimal gpa for Steinhardt, specifically the applied psychology department? I’m interested for spring 2010. Thank you so much.

Not sure but I got in and had a 3.9 overall after 2 years of college.

There is no minimum GPA, NYU uses a holistic approach so its not all about your gpa. I went to two colleges, and at my current one I have a 4.0 BUT at the first one I totally bombed (not even worth mentioning) and I’m currently on the waitlist. I’m assuming the only reason I’m even on the waitlist is because of this holistic approach. Its more about your story overall, and NYU LOVES people that overcome adversity. If you look at some of the boards you will see people got in with 3.2s and 3.4s.

Did anybody apply for the Sports Management Major? and get accepted?
Thanks, I’m just curious.

I applied and got in to the same program, but not the same major. What’s up?

I’m applying to it Fall 2010, and I was just curious because I don’t see anyone talking about it throughout the NYU transfer threads. Just trying to see stats for people that got accepted into the program =)

Sure, I’ll PM you my stats.
