2009 PSAT scores (Class of 2011)

Winkledo - Your daughter’s chances are very good. As far as I can tell from last year’s thread the cutoff last year was 209 or less. The prior 2 years had 210, and 209. It is pretty unusual for the scores to fluctuate by more than 2 points and as long as the Iowa cutoff doesn’t increase by 4 she is in. Congrats!

Do you generally get a better score compared to PSAT taken as sophomore?

I think the majority of students do increase their scores. S1 went from 201 to 212. Of course the higher you scored as a sophomore the less likely you are to increase. S2 scored a 231 as a sophomore and I’m thinking his chances of going up aren’t too good. Taking practice tests helps.

I would definitely agree with qgroup. the more you take practice tests (both PSAT and SAT), the better you will do, no question.

I have no idea what PSAT score my daughter received, need to ask her about that but maybe AFTER this weekend–first SAT that 'counts".
Unfortunately I do remember she was not feeling well that PSAT day so we’ll see…what is the cutoff score for WA state?

The state cutoffs will not be known until August. The cutoff in WA has been 217 for the past 2 years, which is on the high side. It was 215 before that. The scores usually only fluctuate by 1 or 2 points, very rarely more than 3.

Thanks qgroup, she scored VERY high in reading/writing but not well in the math so no where near close enough. Oh well, D2 in 4 years will make it hopefully!

qgroup, Thank you. Is math an easy subject to improve the score on for the next year’s PSAT?

159 but my SAT scores were high, so it didn’t really matter anyway.

Iglooo - I think any score can be improved with the right effort. The lowest score will naturally have the most room for improvement so you may want to focus on your weakest area. I would do practice tests, and see what kinds of questions are most frequently missed. My son used the College Board Official Study Guide book and did about 8 practice tests over the summer.

224 in Tennessee. I think the letters come out in April… have any of you got yours yet?

226 California

National Merit here I come?

My d got a 220 in TN

hey i got 224 too! im from guam though

Does any one know about when the letters come? B/c I just want to know…
