"anyone know why we dont find out online? i have a friend who transferred to nyu for this fall and i think he said he found out online?"

well, i asked a question in the NYU forums and it seems that they inform people who live outside of the U.S by e-mail. I wasn't too sure if he meant of the decision or a noticification that a decision has been made and is being sent to you by mail.

"also, does anyone in this thread applying to transfer have gpas below 3.5?"
raises hand i'm applying with a 3.43 to CAS. i hope i get in. :)

this has to be some type of record, tomorrow is december 1 and only two people have heard that are on here! all the other past threads have had way more people get a decision! what the heck!

at this point i am thinking i am rejected. and when i get that letter i am going to call them and say "why the f do you have early mid november on your website, you ruined my life, the yankees suck!!" i added the yankees suck part mainly because they do. haha!

I like the Yankees! lol I also like the Mets though for some reason...

anyway I'm actually pretty calm right now. I'm reading a really good book and that's taking my mind off of things. You guys should try it! If I get rejected though I don't know that the heck I'm going to do. I'll probably call them and be like whatever I didn't want to go to one of the schools that has the highest suicide rate anyway! Even though I want to go there more than anything..
ahhh

Love3qualsHate, the yankees and the mets!? i am speechless right now! haha
speaking of books, i really need to be reading my school books!

all this time i have been saying we will hear tomorrow and we haven't so i am now going to say we are not going to hear tomorrow, yes, we are not going to hear tomorrow. (i don't believe in superstitions, but this is what it has come down to!!)

Huh? I know duffle heard, but who else did? I missed that. Maybe I'm just trying to rationalize this in my head but it seems to me that less people would have applied for the spring semester. Most people try to transfer for fall and also the economy has definitely put a damper on some peoples financial situations. Personally, I would not apply to a 55,000 school if I were in this situation. This may also cause people to turn down NYU when otherwise they might have accepted. Just my opinion, but hey, maybe I'm wrong. Best of luck to everyone!

P.S.- Do you think applying for art history with 3.95 will make it easier to get into CAS or the same as any other division of CAS? And no, I did not apply for art history just because it could be easier :-)

rcl268- only duffle and that guy tired heard so far, only two people. i think a 3.95 anywhere in cas is great! i think that you're in!

Love3qualsHate- i'm only on part two! i don't think i can finish it with the essays and everything! this is turning into a horrible situation. at least the usc application is not due for awhile. good luck with finishing the application man!!

3.95 does not mean your in, far from it, although it is a fantastic start...cas has rejected people before with great gpa's who thought that their gpa alone would get them in and were weak in other areas

i would advise most people in this threat with gpa's below 3.5 to temper their expectations a tad and prepare yourself for whatever comes your way

when you say people with below a 3.5 do you mean people applying from Community College or from Tier 1/Tier 2 schools because I definitely think that makes a difference. A 4.0 at a CC is not the same as a 4.0 from Georgetown.

**I'm not insinuating that community college is worth less but GPA's do mean different things
depending on the school you're applying from.

In addition, schools like to see an upward trend (especially if you're applying as a sophomore)

don't worry guys, we all have some sort of chance. It's not cool to tell people to reassess their dreams because of some numbers as there have been many people (not only from NYU) that have gotten into their schools with "little or no" chance. And anyway NYU is no Harvard or even a USC. Five years ago they had a 62% accept rate.

Remember none of us here are experts (including me), so take EVERYTHING with a grain of salt.

certainly a 3.5 from a tier one lac is viewed differently than a 3.5 from a cc, but not as differently as you'd think...

love3equalshate-

this is not five years ago

the transfer acceptance rate last semester for cas was something like 5%-10% and has been similar in semesters past...I guess it could have shifted in our favor in light of the economy, but not too much...kids who transfer with less than a 3.5 are few and far between and usually have something extraordinary going for them...lots of people will get rejected this year with 3.8's and 3.9's from very good colleges with very good hs grades and solid ec's etc...for cas, only the exceptional will get in...which isnt to say it couldnt be somebody with a 3.5, but they have a very steep hill to climb to beat out the kids with 3.8's-4.0s, lots of whom will get rejected this semester...I'm saying this not to discourage anybody but only because i remember how much i had my heart set on nyu for freshman admissions and after stepping back a bit, realized i shouldn't have allowed myself to get so committed to one school when my chances of getting in werent very high...again, you may have a shot but dont make the same mistake that i did and get committed to nyu before you've been accepted and always be prepared for the worst, although i hope only the best for everybody on here

best of luck to you and everybody, im sure some people will get their decisions thos week

woah woah woah... I was not trying to insinuate that by having a 3.95 I would automatically be accepted! Also, I really don't understand how some people here claim to know everything about NYU transfer admissions. It's a little ridiculous. Let's just take a step back and see what happens.

i certainly was not trying to insinuate that you were insinuating that you would automatically get in...athough your gpa alone will give you a really good shot

and i certainly never claimed to "know everything" about nyu transfer admissions...far from it...i am just regurgitating the narratives ive heard numerous times in the past, last year in fact, of kids applying to cas with exceptional stats and not getting in...and re-stating what nyu itself says was the transfer acceptance rate last year is certainly not making any claim to "knowing everything"

good luck to all, look forward to having somebody to stress about the transition process to nyu sometime in the near future

Duffle,
Please don’t be that subjective and offensive! Congrats of getting into NYU, however there are still a handful of people on this thread still pending a decision. Please don’t add anymore stress to us. Enough is enough!

Ya, I understand what you are trying to say. On another note, congratulations again. I am from NYC and live very close to NYU. If you have any questions about moving to NY, about NY in general or even about NYU (I have friends there) don't hesitate to PM me. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have about moving here. If I do say so myself, NYC rocks and you will love it.

subjective? i'm confused as to your word choice...as to the offensive part, well, thats all about how you take it...again, don't invest every ounce of yourself into nyu just yet

rcl-

thanks, i was actually born in ny (cant say i remember much about it however) and live 45 minutes from there...my dad doesnt work too far from nyu...well...kinda far, but i guess its all relative...i cant wait to live in ny, pretty much a dream come true

I just finished my UCLA application, but I really don't want to go there even though I have guaranteed acceptance. That school has way too many people! Tommorow the stress begins again...so get a good nights rest everyone! It's crunch time :]
