2009 Spring Transfers to NYU

i'm nervous about my SAT :[

i'm nervous about my SATs as well. seriously, they suck. i didn't get very personal in my essay and i'm regretting that now. ugh! why can't they just tell me that i am rejected already!!

the waiting is the worst part.

lol one school I applied to just sent me a christmas card -_-

"Warmest wishes from your friends in the admission office!"

gee thanks guys.. it'd be a lot warmer if you'd just send me a decision

congrats dufflebag! you're now the envy of everyone in this thread. :)

i hope all of us can hear the same news and meet up together one day.

did you mention your stats already or what? what was your college GPA? mine's only a 3.43. :P

Oh wow I should probably read the thread.. considering it grows 2 pages everytime I check. Congrats Duffle! Very happy to hear one of us actually got accepted, gives me hope. :)

thanks again all...since people are asking for my stats i guess ill post them with some extended commentary on why, in my very humble opinion, i think i was accepted...if i demonstrate any braggadocio or loss of modestness please forgive me

applied to gallatin, now in my soph. year at oberlin (top 20 lac)
father is an alum of cas

hs gpa:3.2 (ugh! upward trend however, did better in my areas of interest)
sat's: 1400/1600, 2120/2400
hs ec's: opinions editor of school paper, and um...not a whole lot worth mentioning, did some poetry on the side

college gpa: 3.75 (3.53 1st semester, 4.0 2nd semester, easy courseload, woops...)

ec's: treasurer then acting president of Socialist Alternative, program organizer with radical direct action group, fairly active member of students for a free palestine, was an inactive member of a couple other groups that im not sure if i included on my app., more poetry on the side, blogged once in a while...had an internship last january at a tenants rights organization

prof. recs were fantastic...remember, everybody says they have good recs. and adcomms are probably flooded with them, but i am the type of student profs. rarely forget, both wrote that i had a profound impact on how they taught and saw the world and checked me off in the best column on the rec. sheet...

essay-did not have the opportunity to use all my creative faculties, but nonetheless wrote a very good, in my opinion not mindblowing, clean essay that i think demonstrated that i had a good understanding about the program that i was applying to...

in short, i think i was accepted because my essay, prof. recs, and ec's put forth a narrative (an accurate one at that) which demonstrated my passion for social justice, my out of the box thinking and my willingness to take intellectual risks which may veritably distingush me from my peers, sometimes...

best of luck to everybody in this thread, AIM me at goknicks82 or send me a pm if you have any other questions

That's awesome dufflebag. And I think you're absolutely right, but don't underestimate the power of that 4.0 in your last semester.

Big congrats!

Hey guys, I applied for 2009 transfer to Gallatin. I'm currently attending the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California as a film major, but find the ciriculum (while admittedly fantastic) to be also too restraining. My question is, since I'm in Los Angeles, I got a letter from the admissions office last week thanking me for applying but it was dated November 13th. If it does actually take over a week for letters to reach me from them, I very well may find out about my admittance after I go home for christmas which will be too late to ship all my stuff back etc. Do you guys know if distance effects how soon they notify you? Did anyone else have a similar experience/lives far away?

i still got nothing in the mail from nyu!!! this is getting very frustrating! i really thought i would find out in november, but it looks like december for myself and most of us on here. has anyone heard from them today?

aqwillis
i live in california and i think maybe distance does play a role in when you are notified of their decision, but i don't know for sure. hopefully we will find out soon!

I personally don't think location matters, whether you're in california or new jersey finding out ASAP could be just as important depending on whatever your situation is.

You must've really stood out duffle to get your decision when they still have that many more applicants to review. Makes me nervous as I know I'm not a very competitive student so we'll see what happens.

Nothing today, and now we go into December. If you thought you were stressed before add finals and term papers into the mix, as well as the impending decision that is extremely likely you'll receive sometime this month. I remember when I used to like this time of the year. =p

i dont think i was a special applicant

anticipate the average accepted applicant to be around what i am...when you say your not a very competitive student, does that mean that you have a gpa that is less than you desire and have something in your app. that you hope might compensate for it?

people usually know in their heart of hearts whether theyll be accepted or not (except for ivies and the very near ivies which are a complete crapshoot)...i have my very strong suspicions as well

BEST OF LUCK

i really need to be writing a ten page paper but i can't concentrate when my life is either about to drastically change or unfortunately stay the same.

us and the cornell spring 2009 kids need to get some award for not going insane with waiting this long!

williams348
i agree, december means finals and term papers and apparently now stressing out over nyu! one day when i'm 50 i will realize, during thanksgiving, that like 30 years ago i almost went a little crazy from stress! lol

i remember the good old days in september when i thought i would find out november 15! haha, was i ever wrong.

yeah I'm going a little crazy as well....geeeeez I really hope we find out this week.

About what dufflebagjesus said I honestly don't know if I'll be accepted. I feel as if though I am a borderline student, who has good essays and grades but mediocre high school stats. Problem is that there are so many qualified applicants that they might not even look at the borderline students. All I can do is hope.

Everyone who talks to me about NYU thinks that I'm so mature because I say that if I don't get in it's not the end of the world. I'm very nonchalant about it and don't wear my emotions on my sleeve, but I really want it! You guys are probably the ones who understand this process and the way I feel best.

If this forum didn't exist I would probably check into a mental institution haha We've been through it all together--from the pre-submit day jitters to the stress-filled waiting game and hopefully for the coping process if we don't get in.

Thanks so much guys!

Know in your heart eh.. I've actually never been rejected from any school I've applied to but for the first time I'm completely in the dark as to whether this school will take me or not. But I'd like to think I'm good enough to get into the school by my stats alone, but as a transfer applicant with so fewer spots, will it be good enough to stand out among the crowd. Bring it on December, I'm ready for ya!

"people usually know in their heart of hearts whether theyll be accepted or not"

what, speak for yourself buddy!?! haha

hopefully december is our month you guys! i hope we all get in, even though that could be some phenomenon if we all do, but i would really feel bad if someone on here got a rejection letter.

i know i know

but for freshman admissions, for most of my friends their "gut" instinct about whether or not they would get into a school was usually correct...im sure you guys have an inclination one way or another, if you don't, i would do some hardcore meditation and get in touch with your "inner self" or something haha...

or, i guess more likely, people genuinely do not know one way or another and im just wrong on this one...wouldnt be the first time

anyone know why we dont find out online? i have a friend who transferred to nyu for this fall and i think he said he found out online? also, does anyone in this thread applying to transfer have gpas below 3.5? is it impossible to get in with gpas lower than 3.5?

i will admit when i was applying for freshman admission to schools my gut instinct was correct but now i don't have a gut instinct one way or another! this is so nerve-racking!! ugh!!!

hopefully monday is the day for the rest of us!

MickeyB10
people have gotten in with a 3.2 gpa so i wouldn't count out nyu if you don't have over a 3.5. don't stress out!! i have no idea why we find out online but i think that is how they have always done it, maybe your friend was an exception.

keep thinking positive everyone! i hope we all get in!

perhaps he tried logging in with his nyu id or something?

there have been cases of people getting into cas with a 3.2-3.3 college gpa in the past, but you better have amazing hs stats and save the whales in your spare time to get in with 3.3 this year
