stvspl- congratulations!! thanks for the luck! i hope me and everyone else still waiting get in. what major in cas did you apply to? anyway, it's great to know people are still being accepted this late, it gives the rest of us still waiting hope!!

I'm an English major, double-minor in Communications and German.

duffle, that's good advice - thanks, i'll call the registrar's office tomorrow!

the admissions office employees go on vacation by this upcoming friday?!
WHAT!...

i guess i'll call NYU and ask them about the housing form online (due date Dec 12th or 15th and if i can only fill it out after i send and they receive my deposits)...

hey, don't give up hope but do have backup plans either way, you'll kept busy!

i actually just pushed this whole NYU thing to the back of my mind the minute i finished applying sometime in November.

the Monday night i found out (Dec. 8th), i actually had called them in the morning to make sure all parts of my application had been received. the lady just said "yes, we have everything." i was a bit dumbfounded and i meekly said, "...oh... good... i think... ok. uhh, thanks... have a nice day." i thought that meant they were going to review it sometime last week so that's what scared me but i remember of all the backup plans i had made in case things didn't work out:

if i stayed in stony brook, i would:
1. take 2 cinema and cultural studies classes in the winter in sbu's manhattan campus for DECs
2. take an 18 course load in the spring semester (take intro painting, advanced ceramics, beginning printmaking, lithography, art history northern baroque, and possibly business marketing principles)
3. re-apply to be an RA because i was on the waiting list for this year
4. work out (like you guys said... haha)
5. work towards a study abroad plan for the summer (i wanted oxford but rome has the classes i need: immersion in another culture - DEC, art history age of michelangelo/italian renaissance, and international business - need to be a senior standing and if i took those classes, i would've been a senior by end of spring even though i'm still technically a sophomore)
6. repaint my room back in the city, build my own bookcase, build a canopy, install curtains, etc. for a sort of "fresh" start
7.

and then i had longer-term goals where i wrote down all the classes i needed for my studio art major, art history minor, business management minor - i wrote it out so that i could have a regular workload and graduate a semester or a year early... with an extra italian minor i would've been able to graduate on time...

while i had all these things planned out, i was excited for the possibilities but i was also realizing that i was the only one at work (at the art gallery where everyone is a senior or junior or grad student), in classes (art minors, majors, and random ones), in the dorms, and out of my friends, who had everything planned out! that was then i realized i was bored of my life here: it was a little too easy!

what about everyone here? what made you decide to transfer or apply to transfer? what are your majors/minors?

i am freaking out! i want to get in, but would they really accept people this late!?! i really hope the rest of us find out tomorrow!!

seirfelats- i applied to transfer because of my major really and the fact that i don't like the school i am at. nyu was kind of new for me, i decided over the summer i wanted to be on the east coast and being in new york would be great! if i don't get in though, i am hoping for usc (actually most of the classes i have taken have been to meet their requirements) and boston university. i'm thinking of applying to other schools in nyc too. i definitely have backup plans if i don't get into nyu.

NS:

Dude I've been surfing every day too! I go so much I should have a parking spot reserved for me in Newport Beach lol How long have you been surfing? Do you have a longboard or a shortboard?

yeah I tried working out, but I just got lazy and all of the angst really got to me. It's not like I'm out of shape or anything, but I really would like to get bulky for those NYC girls! lol I have like buckets of protein shakes at my house I never drank..what a waste! lol

anyway, I need to call NYU tommorow because I really want Lafayette and then Water st. dorms. I tried to fill out my forms online, but they keep telling me my record isn't on file yet! ugh and you guys will definitely hear this week so prepare! You guys have nothing to worry about though you'll be fine :D

well my reasons for transfer were several..
first of all, i am/was pre med, but as my school dropped the pre med major, i wanted to change school..
also, i like hawaii and all, its just, there are so many people who just want to party etc, which of course is nice, but i came from sweden, where i could have gotten in to some top 100 universities in the world(uppsala university, karolinska institute etc), FOR FREE, but i chose to move to the us cuz i wanna work here.. and now me/my parents are paying a lot of money so i dont wanna throw that away on just partying... :)
3rd, i love nyc and ive always wanted to live there, and i think nyu seems awesome, i really think i need to go to a school where i can be inspired by classmates and teachers..
4th... being away from my family and friends back home in sweden sucks.. and so moving to the east coast, esp. nyc would be a lot easier on both me, and my family, as well as my friends.. cheap tickets for like a weekend or so are easy to find.. unlike the 24-30 hour flight from hawaii to sweden, which is like usually over 1200 dollars..
5th, i want to go to a nationally recognized university, my current school is good, and its kind of up and coming, but i want to go to a GREAT school... getting into medical school is really really really hard for international students from what ive heard.. so i wanna improve my chances as much as possible..
6th, im tired of being stuck on an island, its the same thing over and over again, u cant really go anywhere.. i mean, in my childhood ive traveled A LOT, my parents love traveling, and so ive grown to love it too, and now im just stuck here.. its like being in a prison, a pretty hot and good looking prison, but still :P being in nyc is like being in lots of countries at once in my opinion, theres so much diversity and its so big.. also id have direct access to the rest of the mainland too :)

haha well yea :p it must seem like i hate it here, which i dont.. i just really really want to move :P which yea, judging by the decisions, probably isnt gonna happen until after the summer..

yea i think its important with backup plans, otherwise itll be a lot harder getting over a rejection.. at least ive been scouting a few schools now so itll be nice :)

LOVE - haha nice :D well i dont surf very much anymore, usd to surf a lot last year.. havent been feeling like surfing for a while, but gonna start it up this winter break again though.. i never bought a board cuz i knew this guy who rented out boards, and i got to rent them from him like extremely cheap.. :P and so it felt like a waste because i knew i wasnt going to stay here for too long.. :) i usually ride about a 6.8 board, but depending on the waves ofc, sometimes i go for a 8 or 9 footer.. if i buy one itll probably be around 6-7 :) what about u ?

and btw, how is newport beach? is it good ? :) ive only seen it on 'the oc' :P

haha yea, im not out of shape either, i too just wanna bulk up a bit ;D never hurts :P
haha michaelw i know EXACTLY what u mean :p everytime i decide to take a break for just like a week or so, it takes a LOOOONG time to get back into it :P like last year i was working out regularly with a friend for like 4 months, and we decided to take a break.. and didnt get back to it for like 6 months :P haha

its so much more fun if ur with someone else though.. :)
haha if we both get accepted we can go with love and work out together in nyc ;D

i found my workout buddies! lol

I have a 6'4 board..I actually started with a shortboard so it took me about 5 months just to get up! lol and Newport is a pretty good surf spot :D The guys that come here are pros so sometimes I get intimidated, but overall they're nice and teach me a few tricks. The city is nice, lots of stores and stuff, and the majority of girls are blonde hair blue eyes so it's always fun there! We just had a huge fire in soCAL and I was surfing during it...the smoke eventually got to the beach and it blocked out the sun so the water was all red looking and then I saw a dolphin and thought it was a shark and freaked lol random story.

anyway yeah I guarantee that in a week we'll all be celebrating on here!

ns89/ Love3qualsHate- i hope i will be able to work out with you guys at nyu man! yeah next time i won't be taking any breaks. my thing is i'm really short and skinny so at least if i bulk up i will be short and bulked up! haha! i surfed at newport and i was horrible, everyone else there new what they were doing! i looked like such a loser :P surfing is a lot harder than it looks and it looks hard. lol

the rest of us better find out soon if we are accepted or rejected! i can't believe it is over 800 posts and i still haven't heard back yet! ugh!

michael!!

you're short and skinny too?! how short and how skinny? i might be tough to beat...5'6 132...we can go to the gym together and be workout partners so i dont feel embarrassed when i have to do the lowest weight!

dufflebagjesus- omg!! i think i just found my body twin! 5'6 132!!! that is crazy, i had a physical a couple months ago and that is what my height and weight was!
i hope i get in so we can work out together too! i wouldn't be embarrassed if there was another short skinny guy like me!

you shouldn't be embarrassed, real weightlifters would respect you regardless of what you're benching

lol most NYU guys are hardly buff...haha when I picture the stereotypical guy around campus, it's a scrawny gay guy in tight jeans sipping a latte...lol

I'm short and skinny too! lol this is too wierd I'm 5'9 140lbs

I hate being short...all the girls at the club are taller than me! The only thing that keeps me going is telling myself that I have until I'm 21 to grow...ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!

whatever I'm heading to the Bally's right now! Even though I have to finish a 15 page paper haha

lol I thought 5'9 was like avg for a guy? what club do you go to where all the girls are taller than that..haha

I really have to start working out...I think I've gained the Freshman 10

Man these LA girls are super tall with their stilletos! I swear the heels keep getting biggers every time I go out clubbing haha so yeah I either need to grow 2-3 inches or get some platform shoes :D

I guess it's average when everyone is wearing tennis shoes haha

Love3qualsHate- haha! hopefully new york girls are shorter and wear tennis shoes more! lol! i would love to be 5'9 buddy! i can still wear clothes from middle school, that's called sad luis! haha!

love3qualshate-

what do you do with all that extra height? can you reach for things that are really high up on the shelf? you think 5'9 is short, you should see me

michael-if you get into nyu we should make a pact to gain like 10 pounds each by the end of the semester or something

i kind of like being short, i guess its part of my identity at this point...although sometimes i dont

duffle- being short really is apart of me too at this point, i would not say i like it, but i couldn't imagine myself any other way i guess. and if i get in yeah let's make that pact!

i probably will be back on here tomorrow saying i was rejected! ugh! i just want to know!! for everyone else who hasn't heard back yet, let's hope tomorrow is the day.

I have a really strong feeling that tomorrow IS the day. However, I feel pessimistic. I guess 1 month of additional waiting time will do that to you?

yea i think tomorrow is the day too :) im gonna call and just pester them.. ah.. i deserve to find out so..

anyway, theres nothing wrong about being short :) im not really, im like 6'2-3 and about 183 lbs :) haha i gained 20 lbs during the last year ;D pretty funny :P luckily it was mostly muscle cuz i worked out a bit so :)

ive always been pretty small too, especially skinny, cuz i played A LOT of soccer, and i went running about 5+ miles a day while having soccer practice 4 times/week and tennis about 10 hours :P im not exactly buff though, i feel like im kinda average so :)

man, i was out surfing today.. omg.. i have never paddled so much.. :P it took us like an hour to get out to where we were supposed to be.. and we kept drifting :P were out for like 4 + hours..! and i hadnt been surfing for a while either.. i was so tired :p haha, tomorrow im gonna be so unbelievably sore.. ugh..

LOVE - u mean bally's the store? if so, nice :D i love their bags and shoes, awesome stuff :D:D myself ive been a bit of a ralph lauren fanatic lately, really been feeling their style :) but its just annoying how the pants look sometimes, i always need to get them custom fitted.. :P have like 3 pairs in my closet atm that i havent had time to go fix.. :P
otherwise im like a preppy/street mix... :)

hahahahaha stargazer :D thats awesome ;D
