for everyone who heard and got in isn't it crazy that basically less than a months time you will be at nyu!! even though i haven't heard yet, i am glad some people on here got in and will be experiencing nyc life very soon!

Michael, your last post is a testament why I am praying that you get in! You really deserve it... Thank you so much for your kind words! Keep the faith buddy!

I have been trying to speak to a counselor regarding my admissions decision for a while. I was told that it has been mailed out and I should be getting it in a few days. The NYU website initially mentioned that decisions would be mailed in mid-Nov, and now I have reached a point where it is getting a bit frustrating.

Personally, I have impressive academic credentials ~ 3.83 GPA, Academic Counsel Head, strong recommendations etc. but I think there is no certain metrics to decide if a candidate will get through or not. I left a voice mail for one of the counselors yesterday regarding my status; she returned my call today telling me that I have not been selected. She did not even ask me what my Student Application ID is, I do not know whether I should trust her word or wait for the formal mail.

I understand that with the number of applicants, the procedure can get delayed but at the same time these kind of delays can get highly disrespectful to the applicants, especially because some of these applicants do not have any other back ups. I am one of them.

it might be a good idea to e-mail the admissions office for your decision. (also might be good idea to give a short reason why you should get in by e-mail (example: mailing address has changed))

by the way, for those already accepted if you already activated your netID it is RECOMMENDED to check ALBERT (access from NYU Home). it's a good idea to prepare a schedule before orientation although you probably cannot register for classes until you see your advisor. NYU will hold some classes (mostly required MAP courses) for transfer students but this semester has fewer transfers than fall and no freshman students so it may be very little left.

EastCo22221- thank you man. you deserve to go to nyu and i am glad you got in! i really don't think i got in at this point though. i'm just glad there are success stories like you so people next year or even now who are thinkng of applying will have some hope and go apply. i think i have gone through the 5 stages of grief and now i am at acceptance! haha!

once i hear for sure i will tell you guys.

Nity- i know how you feel. i haven't heard back either, they really have inconvenienced me. i applied to steinhardt and have a 3.85 right now i am in three clubs at my university and volunteer at a soup kitchen on saturdays, i was very involved in high school i had a 3.6 uw and held 5 leadership positions in clubs. i never left a message for a counselor, i didn't think they would actually call back. but i really don't care anymore, i agree with you that it is kind of disrespectful to have people waiting this long. it gives people false hope really. just know that you are not alone my friend.

for all the lurkers reading this or people who are going to apply for fall 09, write a good essay. everyone says they write a good essay, but really write a good essay, i should of.

Hello guys, I am a CAS Computer Science transfer student from Fall 2008. Ask me for any questions!

For those we are waiting, good luck! It also took a long time to receive my decision.

scioneso, i just got accepted for the spring in CAS! Did you stay in the student housing? If so, which one? How did you like it? Would you recommend it?

Hey guys! Man I know it sucks waiting, but hopefully you guys will receive a nice little early christmas present! It would be awesome :D

Duffle: Yeah I did the same thing! I looked at the course lists and I chose some classes I was interested in and wrote them down. I just hope I can get into a few of them..

If you got accepted you should check out the Spring Transfer 09 groups on facebook guys...I've already met a few people who seem really cool and excited to go to NYU this spring. God knows it's already difficult enough to move to a new city (especially NYC), so it's cool to already know a few other students to share the feelings of wonder, awe, and difficulties with. I'm glad I know some of you too! It's gonna make it so much easier.

Anyway, good luck waiting. I will be applying to NYU SCPS for spring 2009. They are two separate divisions and handle their applications individually.

I do not dorm, but I visited many of them. I recommend you to choose the dorm based on your preferences. The dorms are spread throughout Manhattan, but all of them have good locations. You may need to take the NYU bus service to travel to and from classes. For travel to other places in Manhattan, you may need to take the subway or bus since taxis are pretty expensive and unreliable with all that moving but slow traffic. However, the MTA subways and buses are also not reliable that much and has dirty subway stations but it's good for the budget-conscious.

NYU dorms are not really the same for every single one. I personally like the Palladium Hall dorm best since it has its own well-equipped and big gym with a pool and rock-climbing wall PALLADIUM ATHLETIC FACILITY , it's around Union Square where some fun things are, and the Career center is located within it. It also has its own dining room, which I personally think is better than the food at the Kimmel Student Center. Some Speaking Freely and MAP courses are held there too. In case you do not know what it is, I have a link below.
NYU > CAS > Speaking Freely
Unfortunately the Palladium is not within a good walking distance to campus. You can try but I found it tiring.

I provided some links below to help you choose your dorm and get around at NYU.

Visitor to Dorms:
NYU visitors can simply leave their ID card with the security guard but you and your NYU visitor must check-in and scan your ID with the security guard first. Non-NYU visitors must leave identification with security and register. However, I warn you that non-NYU visitors will have a VERY HARD time getting in at some dorms.

Study Rooms:
Some buildings have their own lounge for studying. The Bobst library is good but I found it cramped. For a personal room at the library, you will have to reserve it online. The Bobst library is NYU's most well-known library because it has its own building. However, NYU also have other smaller libraries and shared libraries at other colleges.

i got nothing in the mail so i called them today and the lady told me i should be getting it soon.

i asked her if she could tell me my decision over the phone and she said yes. she told me congratulations you were offered admission!!!!!!

she told me i got in!!!!!! AHHH!!! i asked her if she was serious and she said yes! i told her thank you and i will be checking my mail!!!

Congratulations!

YES! CONGRATS MICHAEL!

you totally deserve it, now you better get over the frustration of waiting and send in the confirmation of acceptance back when you get it

because im going to hold you to that 10 lb weight gain

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm super excited for you bro! Now I have a definite NYU buddy :D!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go on Facebook to chat!

MICHAEL!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHH!!!! congrats dude.... i just received the news via duffle on AIM! I'm really happy for you dude. You deserve it! The wait was worth it, huh?

the amount of people accepted in this thread is far more than what one would expect from nyu's stated admission rate...pretty sure nyu is full of it

pretty sure you're a negative nancy bahahaha

Yeah I think they have a ~20-25% rate..

I'd like to think that most of the people on here are the overachievers who don't just apply, but want it so much and work so hard to get in they are above and beyond the normal applicant. Perhaps that's why the rate of acceptance on here is different than the real rate. How many acceptees are on here? Like 8? That like 5% of all acceptances just on here haha!

Michael: Congrats!! I'm really happy for you! But who did you speak to that gave you your decision over the phone? I'd love to get in contact with this woman. The wait is killing me. Nothing in the mail again today!

thank you guys so much! this has been a crazy experience and i wish everyone who has participated on this thread was feeling what i am feeling right now. the stress of getting in is over but new stress is just beginning i can feel it (loans, classes, etc)! lol

bentaro- i don't know her name. but i was transferred to a steinhardt person and she asked me for my ssn she said my letter was on it's way. then i told her i have deadlines for other schools and if she could tell me over the phone and she did! i would call them and ask them to tell you your decision, i think they understand that this is late. good luck!!
