2009 Spring Transfers to NYU

Hey transfers! congrats on getting in - if you need dorm advice and nyu tips just ask and ill try to help! (please don't send individual messages, because you might ask the same questions and i can just reply to all of them on the board)- for anyone who didn't get in, keep trying! study hard and maybe nyu grad school?
Also, it may seem like NYU is this big bureaucracy, etc., but I have found that the key to succeeding at NYU is finding your place within your department. It's really not that big/scary/mean when you get settled in! NYU is certainly worth the wait so those that have not heard yet, good luck!

michael - i'm crossing my fingers for you, man. Really! That goes for the rest of you, too!

NYU9090 - I will have MANY questions for you. But, I have no gotten my acceptance packet yet. I found out through an email like this:

Dear Trey,

First, the good news: the Committee on Admissions has decided to offer you admission to NYU for the semester beginning in January, 2009. Congratulations!

Now, the not-so-good news: If you are learning of our offer of admission via this e-mail, it probably means that your acceptance packet has been lost in the mail

blah, blah, blah

I called Admissions to confirm, and they did, so I'm just ecstatic! However, I have zero information yet. Once I do, the questions will begin rolling! Thanks! And, can't wait to see you in less than a month (Holy s#*!)

okay, i am not going to lie, i am a complainer in general, but this is crazy.

so i got nothing in the mail again, shocker! i decided to call them. they said do not be alarmed if you don't get anything until NEXT WEEK. wow......................wow. she transferred me to a counselor but i go her answering machine, so i guess she was busy.

i am really over it this time. i don't even think i want to go to nyu anymore. okay, i do but this is beyond frustrating. it is december 16. december 16! anyway, i will tell you guys if i got accepted or rejected (i'm sure it's rejected) when i find out.

that sucks michael =/

hehe ur getting to the point i was yesterday :)
i still do hope u get accepted though :)
good luck

ns89- yeah, i am definitely at that point. it's disrespectful to have people wait this long. they told me a month ago (i called nov. 18) i should be expecting a decision soon, i guess their definition of soon is different from mine.

i am not even thinking about nyu anymore. i don't care. hopefully i will get into usc or bu for fall '09.

Why can't they just provide decision via e-mail or over the phone!?? I received my rejection decision via an e-mail.

well, to be fair, they did say that most decisions would be recieved mid december...and it is mid-december...soooo, i wouldnt take all your tension out on nyu just yet, especially if you might be a little rash in doing so, because who knows you still could get in!

I hate NYU. I have been rejected already and why are they still mailing me stuff!? I received a booklet from them "On any given day at NYU"!

Why are they doing this to me?

They always do that. Once your on there mailing list, your on there mailing list for life. I still get stuff from them. its gets annoying like they rub it in my face that i cant be there.

I'm really anxious and want to leave to NYC already! Just skip New Years and Christmas and let's get on with it haha

I already planned my first week discovering: Central Park, the Met (to see van Gogh's Starry Night Autumn Rythm by Jason Pollock and The Death of Socrates by Jacques-Louis David ahhhhh!!!), this sex seminar at the NYU student center lol, discover a nice hidden coffee shop, various libraries, maybe a show, and hopefully a club or hookah bar. I probably won't be able to do a lot of these things because of the weather :/ but I'll try! lol I should probably buy more jackets though...I just bought some NYU hoodies but those won't do anything!

anybody already planning their first week?

hey, for you guys who were talking about working out: there's some gym of NYU (not palladium's) that may be small but has a track on the roof! i think they're talking about coles but i'm not sure...

to NYU090... (forgot the rest of the numbers if those numbers are even correct) - is it true that the traditional style dorms (hayden, rubin, brittany, goddard, and weinstein... and whatever) are only for freshmen? is there anyway a transfer can join these dorms?
i just feel like a traditional style dorm would be MUCH easier for a transfer to make friends because as apartment style dorms are generally more private (everyone has their own space and groups of friends) and are mostly upperclassmen who have their own busy lives. i don't know... i read somewhere transfers are generally most depressed (WHAT?) because we're freshies but we're not allowed the freshmen dorms because we're not freshies at the same time...
do the rest of you feel that way? maybe it's just me...

and for those who are going, what dorms have you been looking into and why?

i'm planning my winter break (i think i'm going to go to the Met and MoMa just because they're free and i need something to do so i might as well educate myself [SIGH]...) as we speak!
- finish finals week (and maybe sleep since it's 3AM and i have work at 11am and i have to go to the wood shop tomorrow at 8am)...
- pick up my little cousin at the train station to give her one last tour of my current school, take lots of pictures as memories, have dinner with different groups of friends as a farewell thing

hey, if you're interested, there's free ice skating at bryant park. i forget which times but it's generally morning to closing... you just have to rent the skates which are about 8 dollars to 11 dollars a pair so that's cool!

Love,

My first week will be spent trying to find a job! Haha! It still hasn't sunk in that I'll be a freakin New Yorker in less than a month's time. And, as far as winter clothing is concerned, well, I'm, for lack of a better word, screwed. I'm from Arizona. Today was the first day of the year I could not wear t shirts and jeans. I think I'm getting a P coat for Christmas, but I need a lot of other jackets, sweatshirts, etc. Now is the time to save, to spend! AH!!! Still so surreal!

still nothing.

Coles is actually bigger than it looks (small on the outside and big on the inside). if you go inside, the building is actually a HUGE basement. there's separated weight training rooms, fencing areas, etc. the club fest is held there every semester. some dorms have their own mini-gym and game room (ironically i heard one has a pool table but no other equipment to actually play pool).

some areas of nyc you might want to check out like flushing in queens (pretty much a mixed chinese/korean town there along with the new mets stadium and flush meadows park, which is like a mini version of Central park).

some nyu students / clubs held events with Columbia students. i suggest you dont get a meal plan unless it's required, there's an infinite places to eat everywhere (the nyu kimmel food are pretty expensive and on the long term it gets "boring" with similar stuff everytime; not sure about dorm food though).

I've been lurking this thread for a while; I applied as a transfer as well. I spoke with a counseler on Monday who said my letter was being sent out on Tuesday. I live on Long Island, but it seems nothing has come yet. I'm pan icing

where on LI?

you should receive it tomorrow if they really did send it out tuesday...keep holding out

I live in Suffolk, on the north shore. I'm worried that due to the high mailing traffic, caused by the holiday season, I won't recieve the letter 'til much later. haha.

I've beeing waiting for month, and I need to know; I basically have no back up schools and Hofstra's transfer day is steadily approaching. If I am rejected (which at this point, I assume I am) I need to transfer to Hofstra or somethin'....

This is craziness. Sorry; I just needed to vented after all this "patient" waiting I've been doing.

bentaro- this waiting thing sucks! i only applied to nyu for spring admission, so i am finishing up fall 09 applications right now. i live all the way in california and i have no idea how long mail from nyu will take to reach me. i can't take this waiting any longer! i am assuming i am rejected but it would be nice to put the final nail in the coffin and find out for sure. anyway, i definitely understand what you are going through.
tell us if you hear anything.

Michael:

It'll probably take 5 business days to reach you, I'd assume. Did you get in contact with any of the counsellers that work in the school you applied to? They should be able to inform you if the letter is even in the mail. Ask to be transfered to them when speaking with undergrad admissions.

I spoke with a Eugene Something of the Gallatin School (where I applied). I called and asked if they made a decision yet. He entered my NYU ID, looked over his computer screen (I assume), let out a sigh (how very ominous) and proceeded to let me know that they had made a decision, he could not tell me over the phone and to be patient as it would be mailed tomorrow (Tuesday).
I actually called back Tuesday to confirm the shipment and he got kinda sassy with me.
"We spoke yesterday; if I said I was shipped out it was. Do not call, we are busy."

I understand that they are busy, but no need to act snobby...
I just want, as Michael said, to hammer the nail in the coffin already! lol

bentaro- i called them monday and asked to speak to a steinhardt person. the lady told me they sent the letter (which i am taking as a bad sign, the use of the word letter), she didn't tell me when they sent it out though. i called yesterday and today and asked to speak to a steinhardt counselor but i got the answering machine.

yeah, there is no need to act snobby. they should realize that on their website it says early mid november. mid december is passing quite quickly as well, soon it will be late december!

for everyone who received their decision, imagine still not knowing. yeah they said mid december when you call them, but just imagine still not knowing. it's a weird, frustrating, annoying, i'm getting angrier by the day feeling.
