2009 Spring Transfers to NYU

i went on the financial aid website you linked us, love3qualshate

i'm vocabulary-impaired when it comes to financial terms like "capitalized" in "Interest and principal payments can be deferred during school attendance, provided borrower is attending at least half-time. Interest is capitalized once at repayment."

what does capitalized mean? does it mean the interest generated over the years i've borrowed add up or... what?

nyu financial aid called me today... there's no extra money available for me so i have to take out a 15k loan for one semester (rips hair out).

is it smart to look for loans now or until we go to orientation and register for classes?

for the citi loan, it says "Currently as low as 3.0%. Based on variable rate equal to prime rate minus 1% (based on borrower's credit history), for life of loan. Adjusted quarterly.

For applications submitted on or after January 13, 2009: Variable interest rate equal to prime rate plus 1.00% to prime rate plus 7.50% (based on borrower's credit history), for life of loan. Adjusted quarterly."

what does the last sentence mean? ^ variable interest rate equal to prime rate plus 1% to prime rate plus 7.50%?

"For applications submitted on or after January 13, 2009: Fees 0.00% to 6.00%" --> this is under the Fees of the citibank loan... does that mean it's better to ask for the loan before january 13th?

love, how did you do it? did you take out the loans yourself or have a guardian do it or ... ............. ... :(

Hello,

Quick question, has anyone received the orientation packet yet?

ughh, NO! I STILL HAVE NO IDEA WHAT'S GOING ON!

You and everyone else!! Doesn't this not knowing business kind of suck!

I sill don't know where I am staying or what my financial aid looks like.

blindfaith89- I am in steinhardt and I got an orientation packet, that's the only thing I know- my orientation stuff.

michael you should call them and be like dude I have my plane ticket so I NEED TO KNOW WHERE I AM GOING TO BE STAYING! say it really mad-like lol

maybe tatll work...do they have your deposit yet? check if you can fill out the forms online now

Thanks...hopefully I'll get it before the end of the week.
Stopped by advising office in the silver center yesterday, the woman I spoke informed me that I can't speak with an advisor until orientation. Really wanted to register for classes before next week.
Also visited the registrar/financial aid building and everyone there was extremely helpful and willing to answer any questions I had.
btw, campus is so beautiful! love it there.

Love3qualsHate- They got my deposit! I filled out the thing online but I don't know when i will hear back? Will they tell me the next day?

blindfaith89- Was it cold there? I know it's random but I would really like to know haha. Also it's good to hear that they are nice.

MichaelW,
It's not too bad here, you can get by with a light sweater and a coat. It hasn't really snowed much so far, but the big snow storms don't usually happen until Feb. Coldest day was NYE, with the wind chill it was around 0°F. It's been in the 40s the past few days.

Also, NYU still hasn't cashed my check for the deposit...?

Micahel: Yeah they do tell you the next day...housing check in is guaranteed on the 11th if you fill your housing app out by thursday. So you're good!

I really hope it isnt so bad. I hate the cold haha I cant wait tillspring

arghhh just bought a new laptop and it took me 20 minutes to get to this page because i dont have it on favorites! I tried google and then CC search and everything but 2009 Spring Transfers to NYU came up haha

&&& Siera:

I took out the loans but I had my parents cosign. The prime rate (I think) is the best rate you can get if you have great crediit. Variable rate (I think) is how they adjust the interest every quarter...so like one quarter it will be 5.4% and the next 5.8%. Not sure though....my accounting class was so long ago lol

you should get the loan now. From what I read Citibank had great rates at the moment because of the current financial crisis; they lowered their rates to stimulate loan seeking. On my loan acceptance rate it said I got a 1% prime interest rate, which is really low! I didnt read the whole thing but im sure that right now is the most opportune time to get one. After the 13th their promotion ends, though, and you'll have to pay fees on the loan that you take out and have a higher interest rate. (iThink)

I am really worried, I don't think they got my financial aid information because they would of told me by now I am sure. right? UGH, I am calling again tomorrow to ask them what my financial aid is.

I really think this year has been the slowest for them. I am glad I got in though, it's just this is cutting it very close.

On another note, we're almost at 1,000!

I got Water!!!!

whattup water street buddy!!! yooo IM me or summin, i dropped by there a couple weeks ago when i went in for pre-registration, i didnt actuallly go inside the building but i stood outside the building and checked out the neighborhood...its a pretty forking awesome neighborhood, different then greenwich village but still awesome...

yeah I was looking at pics and it looks great! I heard we have a view of the brooklyn bridge too :D

&& now that we all have the same apt building we can go to orientation together so I dont get lost lol

hey guys, i was just looking through the website and i happened to find this thread. So do we all have the same orientation date?

So I was so excited I got Water St. that I forgot to ask about my financial aid. yikes! I kind of need to know that.

Also, guess who forgot to withdrawal from his current school? Yeah, it's me! I have "missed" almost a week of school apparently so I will be heading down there tomorrow to withdrawal.

qtakerh- I have no idea! I know my school (Steinhardt) has one, but I don't know if there is one for all transfers. Does anyone else know?

So close to 1,000!

Anyone here are transferring to CAS? It would be great if we could meet up before the orientation.

MichaelW- Ouch, that sucks. Just hope that they wont charge you for next semester. The withdrawal process for my school was insane, I had to fill out over 10 forms.

qtaker......

yeah I'm transferring to CAS! We should definitely meet up do you have a face book?

1000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ahhhhh I'm a legend now lol
