2009 Spring Transfers to NYU

cherrybomb- I definitely will keep you posted on how the classes are. Hopefully I get some good classes and hopefully i will be telling you how amazing they are!!

I can't believe that i will soon not be in California! I still haven't packed anything and I still don't have a jacket! It's 70 something where I live right now and I will for sure miss the weather.

Happy New Year everyone, I hope you have a good one!

Happy New Year everyone! I hope everyone have a great time :D

anyway, the NYU offices open on monday. So many questions!

hey love3qualshate, the link you gave in your previous post about welcome week: is that only for CAS students? where did you find that? those events look interesting!!

i didn't get info on those events... just orientation for steinhardt on the 16th with 3 placement exams (... hahahaha..ha) and about moving in on the 11th... and i don't even know what time because they just said "all day on the 11th" but all day could mean starting at 10am for them when all day means starting at 8am for me

BUT ANYWAY... i still have to get the book... michaelw, did you get it yet?
i hope it's not a heavy or uninteresting read!

thanks!

i did not get the book yet! I am not very keen on reading at the moment, I am so stressed!

I still don't know where I am staying and I still don't know how much I am going to have to take out in loans! I am very upset, you know what, I am just really angry at NYU for F-ing up my last days at home with their BS. I don't want to sound ungrateful but I really don't know what's going on and it's annoying.

AND I still don't have a coat (this however is my fault, I really need to buy one soon)

book? what book?!?! aaaah

registering at gallatin is hurting my head, im going in again monday

hey dave, the book is "the emperor's children" by claire messud but i think it's only for steinhardt students (on top of the paper, it said NYU Steinhardt)... i'm not sure though

i got the book today and it's an average read.. no harry potter but no candide either in terms of width size lol

michaelw, i know what you mean... i'm already in the city so that's okay but i wasn't too happy with the acceptance letter being sent the last week of school (of my old school) because i didn't tell anyone i was leaving or planning to leave and then came my financial aid letter 2 weeks later (when they wanted their tuition deposit BY 2 weeks... which i sent in blindly even though that's a huge factor) and they didn't even give me much from their own school.. most of it was by the government but they decided to list it under their own awards as well as if they're being generous... and i asked for more financial aid and they said they have to wait until january 5th and i heard tuition bill is due january 6th for regular students but for new students, it's 5 days after we register for classes but that's still very time-sensitive!
i think they think the students they're accepting are ecstatic and will just hand over whatever $ they have, haha... NYU's conceited.
:-)

I'm kinda getting cold feet! I'm pretty scared to live in such a huge city and leave everything I know behind...I mean before I was sure that I could handle it but now...?

I think I might just be scared of the weather,...I hope theres a random heat wave the day I get there lol

I am scared, what if I make no friends and get mugged all the time! Honestly, this is a very big change so I know what you mean Love3qualsHate.

I don't understand how people deal with cold weather, I mean I don't get what a wind chill is or anything. I did buy a jacket though, but it's huge. I am only 5'6 and it takes up a lot of my body.

I hope there is a heat wave too!

So I just called my roomate and had an awkward 3 minute conversation with him.

As soon as he answered the phone I heard the thickest accent in the world...I could barely understand him! I didn't mind that at all, but then he told me about himself. He is president of the Koreans of NYU Club, a Senior, studies around the clock and has a GPA of 3.8, doesn't like visitors, and is very neat.

Somebody shoot me! ahhhhhh I am the complete opposite of him :[

I love to go out and have people over, I study a good amount (but not around the clock), I am not a neat freak (although I'm not dirty either), and blah. Hopefully he is cool, and I hope we don't clash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whatever, at least I'm water st. but still :[ ........

I'm gonna vent to you duffle if he gets annoying! lol

i havent gotten up the courage to call my roommate yet...im procrastinating...i mean ill do it...eventually...maybe...probably not

Duffle, you crack me up, man.

So, I have been on the phone with NYU for the past 3 hours. I guess I cannot officially "register" until orientation (which is next thursday and friday). I am a CAS student. Therefore, I am not signed up for classes nor do I have an account with the Bursar's Office. I read somewhere that tuition was due tomorrow, but if I don't have an account then I don't have to pay anything yet? Confusing, I know. I'll have six days after I register to pay for tuition.

Next line of business. Financial Aid!!! I finally got the optimal amount that I need for the semester. However, I just realized that I am going to have to take a Student Alternative Loan from my bank rather than take out the Direct PLUS Loan. I just don't want my parents' credit to be affected by me going to school. Plus, I want to do this all myself. I talk to the OFA and they said that they will give me as much as the Direct PLUS Loan would have.

If this post screams confusion, then I was effective at portraying my current state. I'm supposed to leave in a week and I have no idea what's going on! Oh, and to make matters worse, housing still has not received my deposit!!! AHHHH!!!

I am so angry!!!!!!!!!

Do they not understand that I don't know my financial aid and where I am staying!!!!

"You will get something in the mail!" ----> like when my acceptance letter was suppose to come in mid november but it came December 22 and then you went on break two days later.

I honestly don't know what is going on or what I am going to do (I know I am not the only one so that makes me feel a little bit better). If I take out a private loan that could take up to 14 days when all the paper work is received and I don't know how long it will take to do the paper work!!!!!! It would be nice of them to let me know how much I have to take out.

I am thinking of taking a later flight because I need to settle all of this before I go there and I have feeling this will not all get done in time.

Hey everyone! I'm applying for transfer for fall 2009, and i was wondering, how important is it to have SAT II subject tests from high school? I unfortunately didn't take them... I only took the SAT I's. I'm not sure if I should apply if not having SAT 2's means having no chance at getting in. If it helps I got a 1360 on the SAT, 3.3 HS GPA (yeah..i know), lots of extracurrics, and 3.6 gpa at a 4-year institution. I'm interested in applying to Gallatin. I'm currently a sophomore. Thanks!

^^^^^You guys should check out these loans. The Citibank one seems like a good offer...but I'm not to savvy on the whole loan process so idk. && the citi one gets resolved in 3 days...call NYU they should help you out.

I just started packing all of my stuff :/ So much work! So little time :[

oOOo and fouette, is your SAT out of 1600 or 2400? Anyway, I'd say you have a decent shot. According to the NYU people your GPA is "in the ballpark" and your HS is decent but not great (like me). I'd say make sure you have great essays and Recs as well as good ECs. Use a sincere voice in your essay clearly explaining why you want to transfer and why you would flourish at NYU vs. XYZ school (don't be afraid to use poetic language to show off writing skills, but don't overdo it). If everything is strong then I would say you have A SHOT, but it's definitely not a for sure thing. I had relatively strong SAT II ang pretty weak SAT I, but I don't think it will break your app if you don't have them.

Take this with a grain of salt, though. I'm not an admiss. expert! Good Luck and we hope to see you in the Village next semester!

Oh sorry I didn't clarify, I meant 1360/1600. Thanks for your opinion!

woah I just took out a loan from Citi and it got approved in 15 minutes and I got a 1% interest rate! They're really fast!!!!!!!

My above comment sounded like I was trying to sell something lol

love-

what meal plan are you on? im thinking of not getting one seeing as we're so far away from the dining halls...are you allowed to buy individual meals when u go to a dining hall though?

I got the 10 meals a week one...but I'm kind of wary too that since we're so far we probably won't be eating at the dining halls too much

& I'm more of a junk food type of guy anyway lol
