four mainstage shows. used to do 3 mainstage (Kirkpatrick) and 3 “spotlight” shows in Burg. I love the Burg theatre–not a bad seat in the house.

Hi Guys! Looks like a good season, people in my life are enthusiastic about it! Hope you all are doing well and your D’s too.

Good luck to your son, srw, and your daughter, Kat. srw, does your S graduate in December or May?

I’m not extremely familiar with “Smile” but I think it is about beauty pageant contestants and thus has many roles for girls. Seems like so many MT shows have more roles for boys (Damn Yankees, Guys and Dolls, Joseph…, South Pacific, to name a few) so it’s nice to have a “girl” show every now and then.

What a lovely season. Does it make sense to look at a school’s season and see if there are shows that suit a prospective student? Do schools follow patterns or styles year to year that one should look at as far as programming, or is programming not really to be considered as it will all be totally different in upcoming years?

musicmom, he is going to go the whole year so it will be May. I agree that is always good to have shows that have lots of roles for females, because as you say, so many are male dominant. How is your D doing? Also your favorite baritone is back, I think for the fall semester only.

classicalbk, I think that would vary school to school. At OCU every year varies so much. The Operas this year are definitely “big boy” operas. I think they must take a look at who they have than can sing them especially with the operas. I think as this year it will be a “blood bath” as far as the competition for the girls. I mean Traviata, Light in the Piazza and Gianni Schicchi have iconic roles for females. It will be interesting to hear how it goes! If my son has anything interesting to say about it I will let you know. TXKat let us know what you hear as well.

Regarding my post #2–As usual, I am confused! They always do 4 mainstage shows (2 operas, 2 musicals) and 2 spotlights. The 3 and 3 I must have been thinking about is 3 operas and 3 musicals per year. Or maybe I’m just senile…

And they definitely have the boys who can sing the operas this year ;)

Cast list is up for Light in the Piazza. Don’t forget they are also doing Bye Bye Birdie this Fall as well.

I am confused at to Bye Bye Birdie? Is it the Academy?

No. It’s part of the expanded Stripped Series and it performs in early November. I don’t know why it’s not on the calendar. Call backs are tonight I believe or is it the Opera tonight. I get them all confused! However the academy did it several years ago during summer camp which is why you might think that is sounds familiar.

They should put these other shows on the calendar. Bye Bye Birdie is a great show! The opera auditions start tomorrow, I believe and go through Sunday - I am up on that!

You are right Rusty! My D spent all day in call backs for Bye Bye Birdie and tomorrow is the opera. Smile was last night! It was a hectic week for them all! The cast for Light only included two boys for her class of MT12 who were cast as Fabizio and she didn’t mention any else at the time. I’m sure it will be a wonderful production!

I think Piazza is a wonderful show for them to do at OCU, I will look forward to hearing how it’s all going. I know it’s a very busy time, good thing they are young. Although things haven’t been to busy for son, he didn’t get called back for the musicals, but I know he has his fingers crossed for something inTraviata.

Congrats to srw’s son for the lead in Traviata along with a good friend of my D’s as the female lead. My D got cast in both Smile and Bye, Bye Birdie so it’s a happy moment all the way around!

Z, major congrats! She’s cast in both? Marvelous! If you are going to try to see both you will be very busy! I know son is very pleased, he learned the role this summer, just in case :)

Congrats to srw’s son and to zappos daughter! Exciting news!

Smile is early Oct and Bye Bye Bridie is early Novemeber. It will be crazy busy for her! Glad I live close and can see both! I’m sorry I won’t see your son and Marlen in the opera…they are both so very talented!

sooz, thank you kindly. We have got to try to get down there. I think he would have a cow if we didn’t see him in his first full Verdi. It’s just always so hard with his dad’s job to get away. Keep us posted on how things go. I believe we have another CCer that was also cast WmonMTdad’s son is also cast. I don’t know many other OCU CCer’s most of the ones I “knew” have graduated.

Congrats! I have not seen the cast lists, but I don’t really know any other cc’ers besides the ones already mentioned here.

srw, was JG cast in the opera?

Hi musicmom! yes he is playing my son’s father! It’s a great and iconic baritone role, I know he must be pleased. It’s a perfect role for him and I know he’ll be great in it. I am sure he was expected to get that role. Did he you know he got married last summer?
