2010-2011 OCU MT/Opera Productions

Double casting at OCU for main stage productions is common for leading roles. The Sat. cast does the Thursday dress where they allow an audience and while it is not exactly the same it is two full performances with real feedback for each set of casts. OCU has hundreds of very talented students, in Vocal Performance, Musical Theater, Theater and Dance, and has a large number of shows but no where near enough to allow them all a significant part. According to Dr. Herendeen more than 300 students auditioned for parts in Wedding Singer a show that had a cast of 39 including the singing and dance ensembles for each performance. college_query is correct only 4 parts were double cast.
The chance to do the work necessary to be successful as a leading character, even if you only had two real performances, looks good on the resume and is good for the confidence level. Even with double casting some students, very talented or they would not be here, will never get the lead in any of the productions some will not get to the main stage at all so when they do get cast it really means something.

First of all, Congrats to all of the cast of Wedding Singer! It was such a fun show and very well done. I was only able to see Saturday’s performance and my husband saw Thurs dress rehearsal (thanks Davislcab for your words about my D and congrats to yours as well! She was a perfect Julia and did such a fantastic job!!).
Secondly, regarding double-casting: as a sophomore, I know my D was very happy to have been cast in a Mainstage production and so even though she would have loved to have performed all three (four including Thurs) nights…she was very grateful for the chance to perform at all.

DD was just cast as Audrey in ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ at OCU for their Fall “Spotlight Musical” :)

Major Congrats! She must be thrilled, it a wonderful role!

Congrats to all those involved in “Little Shop of Horrors!” We enjoyed the show so much and are once again very impressed with OCU productions and talent. Dr. Herendeen (stage) and Brian Osborne (music) are incredible directors. Its great for the students to have the opportunity of “Spotlight Musicals”–basically no budget and ALL TALENT!! :)

Well it seems like the last 3.5 years has gone bye so fast. DD has her Senior recital and then early graduation two weeks later.
We are going to miss the fabulous performances by the tremendously talented students at OCU. We may have to come out for the spring shows anyway.
TXKatsmom I think I heard that Kat’s Jr. recital is also on Saturday at 7 I’m sure she will do a wonderful job.

Davislcab,
Wow! I can’t believe the time has come for your very talented DD to graduate. I know she has a super exciting life ahead of her–congratulations! Please “pop” in here now and then and let us know of her successes!!

And yes, DD has her Junior Recital Saturday night–thank-you!
