Yes they all did sound great!

srw…my D just texted me and said that Trav was amazing and your son was incredible as usual. She said I really missed the best opera to date at OCU.
TXKatsmom…our D’s had a sort of double date last weekend for Fiji Victory and my D said she had a blast with her! She says she is a really great girl!

For all the CC’ers still here and with kidlets in Traviata -it was FABULOUS! Saw both casts last weekend and just adored it! DD was in the ‘coro’ but was so thrilled to do her first Verdi! YAY!

Congrats to all and onto spring casting soon!

Spring casting begins - DD cast as Julia in Wedding Singer

congrats to your DD!

Congrats to your D! Very exciting for you.

My D loved OCU, was accepted last year into MT and we could just not swing it financially even with the fairly sizeable artistic and academic scholarships----but we were really sad because we were so impressed with the school, the program, the faculty and the students. Seems like a really great school.

so happy your D is doing well there. It is very exciting to read about other CC’ers successes here, so keep em coming.

Davislcab…my DD was cast as Holly! Congrats to your D for being cast as Julia. They should have a blast with this show.

Fast paced new year - DD won the “Country Strong Singing Challenge” which got her a trip to Nashville, a meeting with an A&R Rep from Sony Music, two appearances on CMT - first a performance video and interview on TOP 20 COUNTDOWN and then a piece on The Insider. Since returning to school she has begun working with a local Indie label and has now gotten lead role. It has been a jam packed 3 weeks.

My sister-in-law let us know that her son (my nephew) is also cast in Wedding Singer - he’s Glen. It was kind of funny - my sister-in-law has never seen the movie, and said “I think his character is kind of a jerk.” I let her know that he’s not “kind of” a jerk, he’s a MAJOR jerk (at least in the movie)! I’m looking forward to the show!

Davislcab, this is such an exciting time for your DD!!

college_query, congrats to your nephew as being cast as Glen. We are looking forward to the show as well.

The word is that the musicals planned for next year (2011-2012) are Sweeney Todd, Little Shop of Horrors, and Jesus Christ Superstar! Not sure what order or which two are Mainstage…we will have to wait for the official announcement…

Got the Wedding Singer cast nights over the weekend. DD performing on Saturday. We will be going Friday for the Dinner, which we have found to be really, we will attend Friday’s show also; to see the rest of the performers. Too bad they can’t figure away to get in a fourth performance of the Musicals, the pressure is quite high when you have worked that hard on a show and you get one shot to get it right. From what I hear out of rehearsals it should be an excellent show.

TXKatsmom - Looks like Kat and Brit both got the Saturday show it should be a great

Davislcab…we are coming up on Thurs. We have a 16 mos daughter and so one of us will be in the hotel when the other is watching the show on Saturday. Luckily, the Saturday cast does a full dress rehearsal on Thurs so either my husband or I will see that one and My D wants my husband to watch the Friday perfofmance, too. I think it sounds like such a fun show!! Can’t wait to see it…

TXKatsmom and Davislcab - hope you both had a good weekend. I was able to attend Friday’s show, so I didn’t get to see your Ds perform, but the show was absolutely wonderful. It was my first time visiting the campus/seeing a show. What amazing talent!

I also enjoyed seeing my former 80s wardrobe up on stage. I think those were my bridesmaid dresses . . .

college_query glad you enjoyed the show we were also at the Friday night performance and it was wonderful, Janelle and Anderson as “Julia”&“Robbie” were a great combo and in fact everyone did a marvelous job.
As to Saturday nights performance, TXKatsmom congratulations to your D she was fantastic as “Holly” wonderful voice and great a really great performance. The entire cast did such a wonderful and professional job; impossible to believe this was a college production and not, at the very least, a national tour. Kudos to James as “Glen” Kevin as “Sammy”, the scene stealing genius of Robert as “George” and Grayson as “Rosie”, the singing and dance ensembles were brilliant and a great deal was asked of them in this production as they doubled and tripled up on supporting roles and fab dance numbers.
All in all a truly entertaining, though not particularly deep, show that brought back many memories of the 80’s even if we tried hard to pretend we didn’t remember them LOL

Glad you mentioned scene stealing “George” - he didn’t even need to open his mouth, he was so good! Couldn’t stop laughing when he was on stage.

Okay, after reading this exchange, I had a question. I had thought that once we were past the “Youth Theatre” phase, we would be all done with double casting! But it would seem that the do it in college also. Is that the norm, or was this a special circumstance?

I have read many posts in the past (but the OCU parents can clarify) where OCU seems to double cast a lot of their shows. This is not that common at other colleges that I know and it did not occur at my D’s school (NYU).

(I have heard of it once before, at Baldwin-Wallace)

This is the first production at OCU I was able to attend, but I know my nephew has been double-cast in some shows the past. He actually was NOT double-cast for this show, but several of the parts were (Robbie, Julia, Holly, and Linda come to mind).

I also have been told of several very, very talented students who don’t get a part other than ensemble/chorus until their senior year (if then). So with that in mind maybe the double-casting isn’t a negative if it offers more opportunities?
