2014 Elks Mvs Scholarship

Just got some amazing news! Not from the elks though lol. I got a scholarship from the college I’m going to that pays all 4 years of full tuition! I’m so happy! But the elks scholarship will make me even happier lol

Congrats jjonesjonny65! Which school?

jjonesjonny65-Congratulations! What school is this for?

@jjonesjonny65 Dude that’s awesome! So lucky. The college I’m going to gave me a scholarship that barely paid half of the tuition. Relying on these scholarships. Lol.

Y’all have probably never heard of it but its Jacksonville State University. It literally 20 min from my house and it has a great education department which I’ll be majoring in. If I score a 30 on the ACT I’ll get a full ride there. I’ve worked so hard to even get this scholarship. I’ve increased 5 points on my ACT. Still trying to go up 3 more points, I have a 27. I’m so jealous of all these ppl complaining about making a 34 lol

^^^ I’ve been to that thread and omg I’m like mind blowned about people complaining about getting a 30. That’s considered genius and impossible at my school. And I’m like are you kidding?! I took the ACT 8 times and I’m no where near a 30 and just gave up. Lol.

@juliaax5, my school is the same way. We have 2 ppl with 28’s and I have a 27. I’m ranked 3rd in my senior class but the 2 above me have 24 and 21 I think. When I made the 27 I felt like a celebrity or something cause everyone was congratulating me and like omgosh and wow lol. Even teachers were saying wow

My school’s pretty competitive, so my score doesn’t look as great. I took it twice – probably should have taken it a third time.

I’m sure all of us will definitely do well wherever we end up.

Is that your top school, jjones?

I have a 25. Shoot me. lol. Quick question, do you think tutoring is considered a leadership experience? i tried asking in its own scholarship thread but it looks dead. Plus the deadline is coming soon so… i’m trying my luck in here.

Btw, I’m afraid my lodge forgot about my application or something… and i’m pretty sure they dont give out any scholarships for the “local” level.

@jibler, yes if that’s what you wanna call it. Main reason is because it’s close to home. And it’s a pretty good school that offers AMAZING scholarships for entering freshmen based off of ACT scores

Juliaax, yes I would definetly consider that leadership. When I think of a leader I think of someone who is followed by others. Your person you tutored is following you and your ways, therefore I would consider you being a leader. Teachers are leaders, so there you go.

Still nothing… I hope I hear something this week

This suspense is scary. Lol. It is making me so nervous.

I’m in the same boat, guys lol

At some point we are all supposed to get an email from the national people updating us of our status but until then the best option is to call your local lodge.

Found out an update. This is for my district in NC. I was the only one to submit for my local chapter so I was automatically sent to the district level. My district level is supposed to make a decision by January 10 of who will advance to state. My local chapter guy says he has a large district officer/state meeting on Sunday, January 12. He thinks he will know from that meeting who the district selected to advance to state. He said he would call me Sunday evening to let me know.

I wish I would get notified. My lodge has had two meetings since December 6. Like I said, my lodge seemed to be very aware of this scholarship process, but I feel like calling them at this point. From those who have gotten a response, what email address sent you the notification?

My daughter’s counselor just told her she was a finalist today. We haven’t received any emails yet. By the way, we are from Oregon.

@Tryingherbest- tell your daughter congratulations. Great job!

If I don’t hear anything by Friday then I guess I’m gonna call them again
