I love MIT as much as anybody, but please remember your financial situation – you won’t get a financial aid package until early March, so it’s essential that you apply to financial safeties and possibly other top schools that might give you a better FA package.

Unless you’re so rich that money doesn’t matter, or so poor that you know you’ll get full financial aid, you don’t want to open your FA letter in March and realize you won’t be able to go anywhere for college in the fall.

Yeah I’m afraid money may very well prevent me from attending (if I’m accepted), especially if I get the full ride at my state school. I’m not expecting to get much aid and there’s no way we can afford full tuition.

I got a full ride at my state school, but I’m 500% sure I’d turn it down for MIT. I’ve already been taking classes there for a year and there are pretty severe drug problems, not to mention that no one seems to care about anything but partying. I have no idea where I’d find the money for MIT if I get in, but I know I’d go.

MIT is my TOP choice and if I get in I won’t apply to other schools. The only exception is Duke because if I get a merit scholarship there I may go there. My parents refuse to not pay for my college tuition because according to them their parents paid for their schooling so they feel obliged to pay for mine but if I get a merit scholarship I’m hoping they’ll accept it and not feel as though they need to pay for college.

Woot! My Evaluation B finally showed up in application tracker! Now I just need to check in on the recommendation that my research mentor supposedly sent in…

Mhmm I should probably check that… if we marked that we’re submitting a supplement and they for some reason haven’t received it then they wouldn’t go ahead with the application anyway right?

EDIT: ignore my rant, summary: more ppl this year = (time needed this year > time needed last year ) = december 19

well last year they posted the date super late, they were probably struggling to finish on time. This year all the summer programs had a record number of applicants… by alot actually.

so im predicting that 2010 applicant pool for ea is huge and that they will stuggle even more to finish by the 12… they like weekends for the release…

12<-----15----->19

… it not only buys them another week but it also isn’t deviating too much from last years date- i.e. 4 days as opposed to 3… It seems most probable that theyll sway towards the 19 because they’ll need the the time for this year’s giant app. pool. for the last 3 years there have been like 10-20% increases in ea… this year it is possible for there to be more.

Q.E.D.
I hope i am an ignorant fool and that i am completely wrong, damn me and my self-floccinaucinihilipilification(i always wanted to use that word but never found the an appropriate situation for it)… 12 would be delicious… 19 would be bloody sodomy…
