@pianoir Most people get notified of their admissions into Pitt via email, then subsequently get the acceptance letter in the mail, which talks about eligibilty to participate in the University Honors College, shortly after. Maybe they were referring to that? My letter states “You are also eligible to participate in the University Honors College. Formal notification of your eligibility to participate in the Honors College, along with program details, will be sent separately.”
Either way, don’t be bogged down about whether or not your stats match the automatic eligibility criteria. During a faux-q&a session I had with an Honors College academic advisor (the session was close-knit, and there were only 5 other people there), the advisor mentioned that the criteria laid out for the Honors College is nothing to worry about - they’re only face-value precursors for UPitt to decide who is best fit for Honors College. Once you’re at Pitt, you can hit up your academic advisor and discuss your interest in taking Honors courses, which he or she will usually allow you to do, depending on your self-determined work ethic. They’re not going to stop you from taking those classes, but they will step in if you start to falter. Judging from your stats, you don’t seem like the type to do that. If you’d like, I can share with you the academic advisor’s contact info, which he provided to me via business card. Really cool chill dude and he convinced me to consider Pitt. Just send me a PM if you’re interested.
My application was marked complete on October 22. ACT- 30 GPA- 3.5 W. but I do have good ec’s an postsecondary credits. I’m guessing since its been almost 2 months its going to be bad news?
@pianoir, The Scholarship Committee meets weekly to review applications. They often review candidates more than once before making a decision, so some students are hearing now. Others are hearing weeks later. Bottom line, any student that is selected for a scholarship will be notified by March 1st.
@supergal155, I would imagine that you should hear soon. Our Admissions Committee is working hard to make as many decisions as they can before our winter recess (12/24-1/3). If you don’t hear before the holidays, you should hear in January. Thanks for your patience!

This shows that even if you have low stats, theres always a chance so apply
My DS just received his Pitt acceptance video today. Great great video. Best way of conveying an acceptance by far of the 5 schools he’s been accepted to. His app was confirmed complete on 11/5/15.
His stats are 1450 SAT (CR+M), GPAUW 3.18, GPAW 4.09, no class rank, in-state, he applied Undecided.
He’s excited to have been accepted because Pitt was his second choice, but only by a tiny bit. Ohio State was his number one choice and they came through with some great merit aid so we have paid that enrollment deposit and he will be a Buckeye Class of 2020.
Application was marked complete on 11/25 with an ACT score of 30, 3.9 GPA, top 15% of class - Any chance that I could hear back within the next two days? @hailtopitt1787
@bigtenhopeful34, Our Admissions Committee is trying to complete as many decisions as they can before our office closes for winter recess (Dec 24-Jan 3).
I just got accepted today at 12pm!!! I live in CA. I got the congratulatory video, but haven’t gotten the stuff in the mail.
Applied to School of Nursing
Stats: ACT 29 (eng 34, math 28), GPA 4.40 W, Rank 24 of 530
sent in the short answers a few days later.
Thanks @balaur. Really hoping you hear soon - the waiting is a killer.I am not looking forward to the extra 3-4 hour drive to Columbus as we’ll be basically driving right through Pittsburgh to get there
@theone1248 when was your application marked complete? I also applied to the School of Nursing with the same stats and it was marked complete on 11/30, just wondering when I might hear back. Thanks!
Accepted into Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences!!
Sent the application: 10/19
Submitted SAT score, ACT score, and the short answers: 11/28
I don’t know when my application was officially marked complete, but I checked on 12/19 and it was marked complete.
Received the acceptance email (with the most hilarious video): 12/22 12:10 pm PST
ACT: 34 (35 Eng, 32 M, 35 R, 32 Sci)
SAT: 2080 (640 CR, 720 M, 720 W)
UW GPA: 3.83
8 AP classes during HS (3 this year)
I answered the short answer questions, and I thought my responses were pretty good at integrating my EC’s, leadership, and personal qualities. I’m just waiting for the letter in the mail now… Hopefully I received a scholarship and admission into the Honors College!
@hailtopitt1787 I submitted my application on November 21, 2015. I received a letter dated December 18, 2015 stating that the admissions office is waiting for my mid-year grades to make a decision. I will be receiving a 4.00 on my mid-year grades. Will that guarantee my admission? Thanks for the help in advance!
@AbanobSarkis, I can’t speak for the Admissions Committee and say your admission is guaranteed one way or the other for sure. But a 4.0 is great work. Best of luck!
