2016 Acceptances

@Chrysanthemum14, Congrats on your acceptance!

If you meet the eligibility criteria listed on the University Honors College website, then you are automatically able to enroll in honors courses. The UHC at Pitt is not membership-based, though. Anyone who wants to take honors courses can choose from a few different paths to get involved (be automatically eligible coming in, raise your GPA in your freshman year and become eligible in sophomore year, or consult with an academic advisor to get permission to enroll in honors courses). You can find the full information here: http://www.honorscollege.pitt.edu/course-eligibility

All that said, if you are automatically eligible to enroll in honors courses, you should also receive a separate letter from the UHC.

Hope that helps clarify!

I just want to clarify, the best way to visit the University of Pittsburgh is actually through our Visit Center in the Office of Admissions.

We offer daily visit options with tours of campus (including a residence hall) and information sessions. We also have day-long special programs throughout the year where you can meet with student services and academic representatives from all over campus. There are also options for you to visit and tour any of the specific freshman entry schools that interest you and/or sample a class at Pitt. No matter what option you choose, you will have the opportunity to meet our Pitt Pathfinders (our current student tour guides) and ask them questions about their life at Pitt. To arrange your visit, please check out oafa.pitt.edu/visit.

@hailtopitt1787 I just called the office of admissions for an update on my application status and the lady said a decision has recently been made. Since I have not received an e-mail with that acceptance video, does that mean I’m most likely going to receive a rejection letter. Or do the e-mail’s come a few days after a decision has been made? Also, do you receive an e-mail if you’re rejected?

@kahana, There is a few days lag from the time a student is admitted to the time they are notified via email of their acceptance.

I just got an email with an acceptance video today!! Only my sat writing score went up to 650 when I took it a second time. I can’t believe this!! Anyone who thinks they can’t get into the school of nursing because their sat scores are lower than average should still apply because it worked out for me!

@kristenxxxx, congrats!

@hailtopitt1787

My application was complete on 2/4 and I have not heard back yet. Is this a bad sign? Also, I did not send dual enrollment transcripts (my college classes were on my HS transcript) and I didn’t send a resume of my extracurriculars. Should I send those things?

Thanks!

@panther2020,

The admissions process takes 3-6 weeks, so no need to worry.You should hear from us shortly!

Also, the required application materials is sufficient. No need to send a resume. And as long as we have your HS transcript or Self Reported Academic Record, no need to send us any other transcripts.

Best of luck!

Wait listed with a 4.015. Crazy. Computer Science. 1670 SAT. Summer internship already. Lots of honor society memberships, musical talents. Oh well, their loss. Off to PSU we go!

What was unweighted GPA and test scores?

Unweighted 3.7. Just took SATs.

Accepted. Out of State, 33 ACT, 3.8 Weighted GPA, 6 two-year IB classes, and I went to 3 different high schools in 3 different countries. Extra curricular: Film club director, Student council member, Varsity soccer team. In my essay I wrote about how I escaped a cult. I got a scholarship of $11,000 per year. Shame. I needed close to full tuition as my parents refuse to pay any tuition because I left their cult. $11,000 just isn’t gonna cut it. Pitt was my first choice, but it looks like I’m gonna have to go somewhere that gives me more scholarship money. :frowning:

@hailtopitt1787,

My Son’s application was marked complete back on 9/22. Mid year grades were submitted almost 6 weeks ago, and Admissions has confirmed that they were received. I assume his stats are borderline (3.9 GPA, 1820 SATs), and he applied to Swanson School of Engineering. I understand the admissions process is a numbers game, but being on this end of it is pretty tough. When I call Admission I am told his application is still under review, and we should hear soon. Would it be appropriate to ask to speak to an admissions counselor at this point regarding his particular application, or is that counter-productive? He’s getting anxious to accept other offers, but I feel we should have the whole picture before making any decisions. Any advice would be appreciated.

@sunnydm, You are welcome to call and speak with an admissions counselor if you have specific questions. It sounds like you should hear back very soon, so it may not be necessary for you to make that call. I know that it is very stressful while waiting to hear back, but our Admissions Committee works hard to give everyone a thorough and efficient review. I am sure you won’t have to wait much longer.

Best of luck to your son!

I applied as a transfer student from Nashville Community College for the School of Nursing. I sent all my application and transcript documents in over 2 weeks ago but, they have not shown up on my application. I know it is a long shot because most top tier universities do not think much of out-of-state Community Colleges however, I have maintained a 4.0 gpa and that too, after overcoming a great deal of obstacles. Perhaps a pipe dream but, not applying would have been a deep regret. And I’ve had more than my fair share of those so, no more.

Best of luck to you all.

@miel23, Your transcript should show up soon. If it does not, feel free to give our office a call and one of our processors can take a look at your application: 412-624-7488.

Thank you for replying to my post. Really wonderful that Upitt has representatives here, calming the masses. :slight_smile:

@miel23, I know that the application process can be pretty stressful, so I am more than happy to help de-mystify it all as much as I can.

@hailtopitt1787 I was accepted for the Spring Semester, but waitlisted for the Fall. Is there anyway I can help myself and get off the waitlist? Pitt is my top choice and I really want to go. I never was able to submit the short answer questions, do you think it’d help at all to submit those now?

3.7 W GPA, 32 ACT (Single sitting), 34 ACT (Super-scored), Great Extra Curricular.
