Two of my daughter's friends who applied during the summer received their acceptances today. This is a bit earlier than last year.

when exactly in the summer did they apply? and was it for fall 2012 or Spring 2012? I applied mid July

Their acceptance is for fall 2012 and I believe they applied in July also.

Can you tell me if they had high credentials to be accepted so early? Are they in-state or out-of-state? My son applied in Sept. but I am hoping he hears soon. This is so stressful!!!

This is a bit confusing…I called admissions to see if they would give me a hint of when we might hear and they too gave me the 10/10/11 date without me even giving my son’s name. They said that even applicants that applied in the summer months won’t hear until that date…are they fibbing?!?

kef218- did these two students apply to a special program such as nursing? Or are did they apply to arts & sciences. I was also told by the admissions office that applicants to arts and sciences would not be reviewed until Oct. 10.

Both of these students are in-state, ranked numbers 1 and 2 in their senior class, with weighted grade point averages in the 4.5 range. One student is hoping for med school guarantee and applied as a biology major. He scored a 34 composite on his ACT and 1490 on the SAT (reading and math). He also had lots of ECs with community service. I’m not sure about the other student, as I don’t know her as well.

Last year my daughter applied to the nursing school in late July. She was also highly qualified, in state and did not receive her acceptance until mid October, even though many other students had been accepted prior to that into the nursing school (as well as others). I’m not sure what Pitt’s procedure is, but it sure is awful waiting!

I asked an admissions officer at a college fair at my school last night when acceptances would be coming out for those that applied over the summer. She told me that this was the first week they were even allowed to look at applications, so this must be false…

It is not false; one of the students that I mentioned getting accepted is a close family friend. I saw his acceptance letter with my own two eyes on Saturday.

Pitt’s stated answer to this question on the telephone is that applications will be reviewed commencing Oct. 10. It may be that a few candidates who applied during summer were subject to a different timeline. I would not expect notice of acceptances to start rolling for most applicants before mid-October. That’s consistent with results last year.

I applied on Sept 14, but one of my recommendations isn’t submitted yet. However, on the mypitt website it says my application is complete… do you think I’ll hear back even though one of my recs isn’t submitted, and if so when? I’m just getting a little antsy :)

Its possible. Also at the top of my acceptance letter it says October 5, 2011.

Congrats Justino! Did you get one of those email’s saying that they liked your essay before you got the acceptance letter?

No, I did not.

Does pitt include admissions to their general school if you do not get accepted into the specific school that you applied?

I don’t know the answer for schools at the main campus, but they do admit to branch campuses if you are not admitted to the main campus.

okay, thank you! I applied to the school of nursing, but I have a feeling my stats are not qualified enough so I was wondering if I would end up having to re-apply if I am denied.

Oooh guys I just got the email that said they liked my essay!!! I’ll post again when I hear decisions :)

I called today and was told my D application was in review, and she should hear next week. I forgot to ask, how does PItt admissions inform you. Is it on mypitt, email, or just slow to california usps?

They notify by mail. If it’s like last year, look for a large envelope that says “Congratulations” on it!
