There seems to be no rhyme or reason with the offerings. They must be using a more holistic approach than just numbers? My son had a 4.0 unweighted - 7 AP’s, with a 2010. We spoke with another who had a lesser SAT score, lower GPA but more money. We are out of state. He also had quite a lot of EC’s, leadership etc. Nothing truly amazing but certainly nothing that would hold him back either. I’ve seen some with less stats get the 10k per year, and others with higher stats get less. I’m sure they know how they figure it out, but I surely can’t.

When I visited I met with someone who said it was different tiers, based 100% on class rank and ACT/SAT score.

He did say if you weren’t top 10% then you get nothing, no matter what, and it sounds like some people have. So it may vary a little but I imagine its pretty close to right.

OOS daughter finally got acceptance letter. $10k/yr, 1370, 4.6W

If anyone from Clemson is out there monitoring these - my daughter has had 4 weeks to get comfortable with the idea of going to SCar after receiving both acceptance and minimum scholarship letter. If you thought well enough of her to offer the $10k, why the delay - especially when others in our town and on this site got their acceptance weeks ago? This may be a case of too little, too late. We’ll see.

If it makes you feel any better, I too am in NC and just got mine today.

I don’t work in the admissions office nor do I have any connections there but I don’t think it’s fair to knock on Clemson’s admissions office for handing out scholarship money in separate batches. They promised you a response by mid-February and you got a response a month before that. It’s entirely possible that they are reviewing these applications on a rolling basis and are notifying scholarship recipients in this manner.

When I applied for colleges, I got an acceptance letter from Pittsburgh in November and Northeastern in early December (with a pretty hefty scholarship). I didn’t hear from Virginia Tech or NC State until March. In the end, I don’t think when I was notified of my acceptance was a factor in my decision (VT was along with Clemson and Pittsburgh in my top three). I know it’s exciting to get these early acceptance letters and imagine what it’s like to attend the schools (I know I definitely did that with Pitt especially after joining the facebook group online and getting to meet some potential classmates) but you have to try your best to fairly evaluate all of the schools and what the best fit would be whether it is Clemson or South Carolina for example.

Sorry for the rant, just wanted to just voice my opinion and experience of the college selection process.

“It’s entirely possible that they are reviewing these applications on a rolling basis and are notifying scholarship recipients in this manner.”

That is exactly how it is happening.

EDIT- Actually, the only people who hear before the actual promised notification date are those receiving scholarships.

Congrats to all!

I don’t buy the ACT conversion. My DS got $10,000

His stats were:
34 ACT
3.895 unw GPA
NOT in top ten percent. More like 11-12%

So I believe it’s a combination of all three things if it were only ACT and GPA then I think his scores were in line with some of the people who got 15,000…

I’m not saying 10,000 is bad. Just that clemson is looking at other things too…

BTW. We are OOS and so even with 10,000 clemson is a lot more expensive than
a number of colleges he applied to and got merit aid/or our in state hope scholarship for including Georgia Tech,UGA,Auburn,University of Alabama,LSU,Mississippi State University and University of South Carolina.

Some school have more merit aid to give than others. It’s just the way it is.

I would put money on if he was in top 10 percent he would have the 15k

MichiganGeorgia - I think you may be right. It has to be on several factors that they make a decision. I know a student who is in-state who has a 1670 on SAT, top 30 percent, with a weighted GPA somewhere around a 4.3 who received $4000. My DS is also in-state, 1830 SAT, top 40 percent, with 4.2 weighted GPA and hasn’t gotten anything. Plus DS is legacy… so he’s just counting down the days until Feb 15 :)

Tigerin13 - Did you get the $15,000?

As a top 10% and 32 or higher on the ACT, I did.

I believe they have tiers based on the score and rank. If you meet one but slightly miss the other, they seem to be offering some but not all of what you would otherwise have.

Tigerin - Congrats! That’s awesome.

Thanks! I originally qualified for a (significantly) lower tier and studied to get my score up as I loved the campus so much! Very excited!

My son found out today at school that Clemson goes first for recruiting the Palmetto Fellows students so that’s why some have heard already, and some have not, yet turned their applications in early. My son got early acceptance to both USC and Clemson in December and he is a Palmetto Scholar. Of course he chose Clemson!

^ My DS got accepted at both USC and Clemson in December but we live in Georgia. What is a Palmetto Scholar? Is it a SC thing?

it’s a scholarship for South Carolina residents at in-state schools

Should acceptance letters be arriving on the February 15 or are they sent out on the 15th?

Arriving I believe. Always possible that it may get there a day or two early as well!

Arriving around February 15th. When I applied the 15th was a Sunday so I got my letter the Friday before - they’ll usually send them out a few days ahead of the 15th and you’ll get them depending on where you live in the country
