Acceptances are coming

If my son wants to room with a friend who hasn’t heard yet, acceptances and applying for housing both come out on Feb 15th. So once the friend hears, then do they both put in the for the housing? I hear it’s based on when you applied to Clemson, so would they get priority on my son’s, who applied in Oct? We’re just worried the housing we want will fill up. And does the friend have to pay the admission before he can apply? And we’re still waiting for our CUID, why does it take so long? Thanks

Yes housing applications are based on when they applied to Clemson (they take the average of two people if both want to be roommates) - you don’t have to pay the admissions fee before you apply so you can even wait till the last minute to apply (as long as its before the deadline - usually May 1st). Usually the housing department sends out a letter with all the information you need to register for housing - usually comes 2-3 weeks after everyone starts getting their acceptance letters (don’t know if people who have heard early will hear earlier but at least that’s the case for February notifications)

As for the logins, which seem like they will be confusing,

they have not been put into the system. According to clemson, they would be put in mid february. However, clemsons admissions twitter said that their system was going offline from the first to fourth of this month, so I would guess that might be related?

Actually, they updated the ids and such I believe. This is how it reads now.

CUID - Your Clemson University 9-digit student identification number. This number is used for issues relating to summer terms 2013 at Clemson
CID - Your student identification number (C12345678) that will be used for the fall 2013 term and all future terms at Clemson
Clemson UserName - Unique variation of student’s name. A student’s userName is sent to the E-mail address used on the application to Clemson. UserName can also be located in the online university phonebook

They changed everyone’s ID numbers starting this January so the CUID is the number that you had if you entered Clemson before this year, the CID is the new number that you’ll get (pretty much the same thing - no difference for new students)

My daughter received her acceptance today. We are in NC. Her stats are top 10%, 29 ACT. She received a scholarship offer of $5000/year. Not likely to accept as she has several acceptances more attractive to her. Clemson was the first school she toured (as a sophomore) and she really liked it. We would be happy for her to attend.

Congratulations on the acceptance regardless!

What are the chances of getting into Honors College if you have NOT received a scholarship? Pretty sure my D will get in, but its Calhoun she really wants.
She has 2 college courses, 5 AP/IB, 3 Honor societies, 4.0, lots of extracurriculars, but ACT not so hot. We/she never thought she wouldn’t do well, always an A student. Lesson learned, too late… So we’re on the of our seats here.
Also, anyone here from admissions or “in the know” enough to say with confidence what time of day those emails get released, or could it be anytime? (i.e. the ACT scores update Weds and Fridays at 12:01, the SATs at 5am EST on the specified date). This would help, as we all want to be together when she gets it.
Plus I’m sure she would like me to stop asking her to check her emails…
Thanks!
p.s. Congratulations to your D, figismom, and best of luck wherever she goes!!

Tigerin13 - Any news on Honors College?

I’m also applying to the Honors College. I can’t say any more then you, although as long as the ACT is not atrocious, she sounds like a good student to me.

As for the release, correct me if I am wrong, but isn’t everything though the mail? I was under the impression it was. I can tell you that Calhoun notifications said (somewhere) that it would be (can’t remember exactly) Feb 15 or later, within maybe 2 weeks. Again, can’t remember exactly but that’s ballpark. As far as I know, there is no specific time which anyone knows, except perhaps their admissions.

Best of luck to your daughter!

Actually Calhoun Honors notification comes via email. I confirmed this directly with them a few days ago. The email will have a URL link in it, click that to take you to the decision.
Notifications will be made BY Feb 15th AT MIDNIGHT - this is also on the Calhoun site: [Deadlines/Timeline : Clemson University](Apply)

I was told at one point that they might start as early as the 7th (gulp), but the most recent person would only say “maybe a day before” the 15th.

The University accept/decline notices are definitely via mail, not email. I confirmed this with them directly as well. (I was making a little cheat-sheet of decision dates, how they notify, financial aid deadlines, etc. since she applied to a lot of schools. I couldn’t keep them straight and I told you she’s tired of me asking :))

I hope this info doesn’t cause you to keep checking your emails obsessively.
Like me ;-)

Let me know what you hear and I’ll be sure to do the same!

DS was accepted, just received notice yesterday - with $10k out-of-state scholarship! Now we have some decisions to make…he has been accepted to University of Denver, Clemson and UCONN. His first choice is Denver, but there are definite merits to UCONN ($$, since we are in CT) and Clemson (better school, at least in Engineering). How to convince him?

Well, if you want him to go to UConn, you say, “We can’t afford to pay for an out-of-state school AND pay for graduate school if you want to go. So you should go to UConn.” However, Denver is actually cheaper than Clemson, unless he got no money from Denver, so that wouldn’t work there. Have you visited all the schools?

Denver is $10k more than Clemson ($40k tuitition)…he got $10k from each, so Clemson is cheaper for us. We really liked the Clemson campus best. He likes the size of Denver better and is a snowboarder, so…

Okay, must have been looking at the wrong university in Denver or the wrong place. So there you go: He should go to one of the cheaper colleges. Parents have been saying they wouldn’t pay for the more expensive school since the beginning of time (or at least the beginning of colleges). He can go on a lot of snowboarding trips with the money you’ll save either way. I know that if my daughter gets in to Clemson and UF (We’re in Florida), unless she gets a good scholarship from Clemson (which is seeming less and less likely), she’s going to go to UF. But I’ll probably tell her she can do a semester abroad with all the money we’ll save (UF is practically free for us because we have an instate scholarship, Florida Bright Futures, plus a prepaid tuition we bought when she was a baby). Good luck.

It doesnt say that it will be emailed there but I believe you!

Quite frankly while I will be excited to get in if I do its not a make or break factor. It does sound like a nice option. Does anyone know when we get Clemson ids?

Although now you have me excited. Gosh darn it, haha.

tigerin13, that information should be coming in the mail sometime soon (usually 1-2 weeks after the February 15th notification date). If you really wanna know, you could try here: <a href=“Email & Accounts | CCIT Web Site”>Email & Accounts | CCIT Web Site; (doubt they have everything posted on here right now if anything for new students). Oh the website is www.clemson.edu/phonebook (realized they didn’t have that in the directions)

mamaO33, she’s definitely got a shot at the honors college. Best of luck to her! (Reminder: if you don’t get in but still want to go to Clemson, you can still apply after your freshman year if you have a 3.5+ GPA)

Admissions notifications come in the mail but I believe Calhoun Honors College notifications come via email

And now we’re getting snowed in up here in the northeast and mail will be delayed… thanks for the well wishes, fingers crossed for everyone!
GO TIGERS!

bltkmt, I’m assuming he’s visited Clemson? That’s usually a major drawing point with Clemson that seals the deal.

With engineering, Clemson is the best school out of all of them (assuming that’s what he is looking to study). I don’t have the latest US News rankings but in 2011, Clemson was ranked 56th for engineering, UConn was ranked 78th and the University of Denver was ranked 156th (besides schools like VCU, Wichita State, Montana State University etc…). The point is that Denver would be a terrible choice to study engineering and if you are going to spend that much money, you might as well go to Clemson or UConn. I think that alone would be enough to make a persuasive case (or at least look at other schools in Colorado like Colorado, Colorado School Of Mines, or Colorado State)

As with skiing/snowboard, there isn’t much in the immediate area in terms of that. However our outdoors recreation program has weekend trips from time to time to ski areas in West Virginia and North Carolina (they are at Beech/Sugar Mountains in Boone, NC this weekend). Obviously much smaller than anything you’ll find in Colorado or New England where I’m from but it’s better than nothing I guess. Also over winter break they usually take a ski/snowboard trip out to Colorado.

If your son has any questions or concerns about Clemson, feel free to message me! I’d be happy to address them.
