***ACT October 2013 Thread***

If there’s an eraser smudge, will the system pick it up as if the smudge was a mark?

does anyone have curve predictions?

( soeone posted this on another thread) please add:

respite

hurtle ( not hurdle)

he quipped, in retrospect ironically, (DEBATED)

rendering (what was this one?)
5.popular X-ray crystallographer Rosalind Franklin (no commas because it’s essential)
6.popular X-ray crystallographer Rosalind Franklin (no question mark)

began serving as an apprentice

“still” not furthermore

women’s rights

blank ink question ( is there a consensus??)

did anyone get 2r for the y point on the first question of that weird parallelogram ?

What was the answer for that question that you had choose a word to show the readership of a paper or something increasing a lot? I put soared.

This ACT especially math was terrible for me. I now like the SAT better haha.

jman5558 - Yep
amrita1696 - I put soared as well.

Generally, concerning math, I was surprised that a few questions actually required real trigonometry knowledge, not the SOHCAHTOA crap.
Hopeful for a perfect on math, but reading though. Ugh.

Amrita1696-definitely soared.

When can we expect to receive our scores back? ACT gives a really long time-frame.

@thestripedcrayon November 12

For the sun question I put 1 & 2 as well. Scientist 1 thought the sun’s core temp was below previous estimations, whereas Scientist 2 thought the sun’s core temp was above previous estimations.

W/ the black jet ink one, I chose the answer w/o the commas. I Kind of figured it was awkwardly trying to describe the ink, so I tried a different example in my mind “The ruby red car” and I didn’t think you would need a comma for that. Most of the english section was pulling out commas instead of putting them in.

Would you guys say that this was the hardest math section ever administered, giving it the most generous curve? Here are the curves for previous ACT Math sections: http://www.erikthered.com/tutor/ACT-Released-Test-Curves.pdf</a>
Do you think that the curve will be the same or better than the most generous curve on this pdf?

@poelstra13 it had to be with commas. the ink, jet black and made of soot, mixed bla bla blaa… the commas were needed to isolate the description of the ink. For example, My first car, a blue 1982 ford, was given to me by my father.

@triassiic, I think that the curve will be very generous. I got 4-5 wrong and am hoping for a 33-34.

Eh I don’t know. At this point, it doesn’t really matter. I’m hoping there is a pretty strong curve on the english portion though. I think I got -9/-11 wrong. Oh well, that is still in my goal of a 26-29.

I took a couple practice test the week preceding the test and I was getting in the low 30’s. However, I don’t think this test will show that. ):

Poelstra13- I took a practice test from The Real ACT Prep Guide and got a 34 on Math. I couldn’t do at least 8 on yesterday’s test…

@littlepavs, that happened to me in september. I couldn’t do like 6 on yesterdays but I guessed 2 correctly (hype). Taking into account everyone’s reactions, I would say a -8 could get you a 31 or 32, which is pretty solid.

That -8 for a 32 on math would make my day. Although I kind of miss the less challenging math sections with harder curves. That’s more of a test of accuracy, but whatevs.

What do you guys think this score will be English: -3-5 Math: - 7/9 CR: -7/9 Science: -1/2

@justanother guy, roughly a 31-32.
