***ACT October 2013 Thread***

You gus remember the question on ford and his tone?

@amrita I put 15 too because 5 meats x 3 sandwiches = 15 options

@binderboy I put that he was straight forward and self confident or something. The one where it said he was confident. Because the other correct sounding answer said Ford was being self critical and I didn’t really get that from the passage

wait wasn’t the math combination easy… it was just multiplying the numbers they gave. You guys can ask me any math question… I am pretty confident about my answers in math.
Also for english, the answer to one of the questions in the last passage for “respite” right?

proflamel, same w ford… I probs got the combinations one wrong, which is really lame of me. I got a 36 on the last ACT math! Now I’ll be lucky to get like a 33

Also how about the twins one and how would ben describe himself (i think thats his name) i put like pessimistic

english: number 10: hurtled was correct? other choices were hurdled and heaved that i remember.
did you guys have “though” as a lot of the transition questions?
if the writer’s goal had been to write an article about the early years of the space program…? i said no because it focuses on one project of the space program

math:
x-y=6 and x^2+y^2=72 i believe, what was x+6?? i put 24 totally randomly
slope of rotated line 1/4?
chinese art one- did you choose NO CHANGE, keeping it was the parents’ native language?

reading:
what was even happening in the twin passage? was the main character shy as an answer choice?
how did the clams live in the algae things?? is it bad i don’t remember what the plant was called considering the wholearticle was about it???
the ford passage, he planned on keeping the car making a expensive hobby?
i didn’t even read the humanities so i don’t have any questions on that

science question: the one that introduced a new vocabulary word on the gene passage, and asked if it was true. the choices were yes because white, yes because violet, no because white, no because violet (again i’m not sure) but i put yes because white.
If the pressure were to be 5kpa instead of 1, the overall soething would have been higher?? it referred you to the graph that was logarithmic
according to the three physicists, the _____ would be v1, v2, or v3 (maybe itwas a1, a2, an a3)
which physicists saw problems with the model? 1 and 2?

I thought the main character was pessimistic and irritable.

I said for physicists 2and 3 and for the twins one i put pessimistic and irritable

Alright… I failed in the Reading and Science section… So my answers wouldn’t probably help you. But I am confident in all of my answers in English and Math, so I will answer those:
English: Yup… all of them match.
Math: The slope of the rotated line is basically going to be negative reciprocal… I think the slope was 2, so when it gets rotated it is gonna be -1/2.

I put that the main character was sly and confident or something. I just got the feeling that he was clever and witty…? I think it was because of his sarcasm throughout the passage. I didn’t really get that he was shy I could be totally wrong though

Whyyyyyyyy did I retake this??? I got a 34 the first time, spent a bunch of money on a prep book and stuff, and then probs failed this time…

I didn’t get that he was pessimistic or irritable either

I thought the sandwich problem was a combination problem beer you do 5 nCr 3 which gave you 10? That could be wrong though cuz idk if it said you could use a topping twice. I just assumed not…

For science remember one of the last few questions on the graph like 1 million years i thought the graph read years in billions

@proflamel

Yeah but there was a small paragraph contrasting him and his twin. Since no one would think of themselves as irritable, there was another good sounding answer there that I went with.

I went with opportunistic for that question… But again, I did bad on reading this time.

there was a passage describing how they looked like in pictures and one was always “in pain” and angry at change and pessimistic
the other was always joking around

so i went with the pessimistic choice I think idk though

@btrailblazer I guess shy would make sense then because his twin wanted attention…I don’t really know though. Probably got that one wrong honestly

oh yeah… on the english section what did u get for the ink jet black and made of pint wood question?

@ Troutfreak

You’re right. The other people are wrong.

The answer to the meat sandwhich problem (hehe) was 10.

5 nCr 3 = 10
