S applied on Saturday. Admitted today ACT 34. GPA 3.9. Any idea what type of scholarship he might get? Also how long after admission posted on Gibson did the scholarship letter arrive? Thanks. Very excited!

@collegemom27

Well, there are other factors besides just the stats these days. But if that GPA is unweighted and if everything else is strong, I would think Premier or Presidential. If the GPA is weighted and if he doesn’t have a lot of AP courses or similar, it could be lower. You should get the letter in a few days.

GPA is unweighted. He has 2 B’s in 9th grade. Everything else is an A. Has taken 5 AP classes with 4 and 5’s. Is taking 5 additional AP classes this year. We are also from an underrepresented state, if that helps. Thanks for your prediction. Looks like we will be taking a trip to New Orleans soon!

@collegemom27

That’s cool. Then I would say the biggest factor remaining is how convinced they are that he is serious about Tulane and mot just using them as a safety. He is, of course, a strong contender for full tuition if he is inclined to apply for the DHS and/or PTA.

I don’t think being from a state that doesn’t get many going to Tulane makes that much difference any longer. If a whole region were to start going soft, that might be different. JMHO.

ughhhh my app was complete 10/12 :(( just keep refreshing Gibson :((

My daughter completed the common application for Tulane on August 1 although she didn’t get the acknowledgement until Sept 28th. Application has been complete since 9/28. No decision yet. 2270 SAT. 5APs with all 4s,or 5s. Currently enrolled in 6 more APs. 770 Math 2 subject test and 760 in U.S. History. Good ECs. National Merit Commended with PSAT of 217. Why is her application still awaiting review?

@Dallas14 When an application is reviewed varies a lot. It’s possible, for instance, that your regional counselor has a busy travel schedule of admissions events. We’re still more than a week away from the EA deadline, so a slightly slower response time response time is nothing to worry about.

@Dallas14

What @usualhopeful said is correct, but at the same time it wouldn’t hurt for your D to send a short email to her admissions person just restating her interest in Tulane. Sometimes things get “lost” in the blizzard of files and a nudge makes it move to the top.

Okay. Thanks!

Son applied via CA late at night on October 25. Today, received admission envelop and Presidential $32K award in the regular mail - greater Houston, TX area. I have not even yet looked at the online account, but will now. Very impressive with such quick response. However, he will need

  • touch screen submitted before I was ready -

However, absent other sufficient merit aid or the Dean/Paul Tulane award, it is likely he cannot afford to attend. Wants to study biomedical engineering. Also invited to be member of Honors Program.

Some of his stats:

• Cumulative GPA: 4.80 weighted, 3.93 unweighted
• Cumulative Class Rank: 34/967 (Top 3.5%) The Woodlands, TX
• Advanced Placement Classes: 11 completed or enrolled
• SAT: 2310 (800 CR, 710 M, 800 W) [single sitting]
• ACT: 34 (35 Eng., 34 Math, 35 Rdg., 33 Sci., 10 Wrtg.) [single sitting]
National Merit Commended
AP Scholar with Distinction
advanced placement in French Horn competitions
NHS
President - 300 member band
President - SADD
member - Mu Alpha Theta, NHS, Science NHS, French NHS
Community volunteer

Expect teacher rec was strong.
Believe essays were genuine and solid.

Currently, working on Dean and Paul Tulane scholarships. Hope this fast response from Tulane suggests he could be a candidate for either of those two scholarships.

Thanks to all of the folks that post here, and in particular to FC and the Tulane blogs that have helped son and dad make it happen.

@WineDrinker

First of all, love the screen name. I am shocked it stayed available that long.

Second, I like his chances for one of the full tuition scholarships a lot. His stats are almost identical to my D’s 7 years ago (yikes!!!) :open_mouth: when she won her DHS (same GPA + 0.02, 2330 SAT, and 10 or 11 AP, hard to remember exactly). And back then there were only the 75 DHS awards, nothing else. Now you have that plus 50 PTA, and 5 of those DHS will get a full ride by being upgraded to Stamps winners. Ya gotta like his chances. She loved her time at Tulane, and since you have read my posts you likely know the school prepared her extremely well for her next steps.

Is there a certain time of day that decisions are posted on gibson?

@ccc827

No, they seem to post at all different times as far as anyone knows.

Why Tulane was very specific

He will apply for the “box” scholarship. He has a good idea!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but seems like every EA student who has heard so far has been awarded a scholarship, so assuming these acceptances are being released first and then for students who are accepted EA but without a scholarship. Does this seem to be the case?

Very nice!! Will he apply for the Paul Tulane as well? It seems like he is very serious about Tulane, but he will no doubt have several high level choices. If you feel you can speak for him, what is attracting him to the school? I mean many of us know how wonderful it is, but I am always curious what is the perception of high school students, especially high achievers like your son. @HRSMom
