Hi-
I have submitted my complete application with the following stats
GPA 3.9 and ACT 28 with the ususal ECs and now my admissions
status page is saying the following::::::::

We have completed our initial review of the academic credentials in your file and are deferring our final admission decision for an additional review. A final decision will be made shortly and you will be notified by mail of the decision.

Mine says the exact same thing. Like, what the fudge?

I have a 4.44 GPA and got an 1890 on my SAT (1300 out of math and reading)

I thought I would get accepted for sure, USF is really only a back up school for me, but now I have that message and I’m really worried.

Does that actually mean that we got deferred? Or does it say that for everybody? I haven’t seen or heard of anybody actually being accepted yet, so I’m not sure what’s going on.

If you contact USF and get an honest answer, please share !
If it makes you feel better, a “nerdy” classmate of mine with a 4.32
and a ACT of 33 and using USF solely as a back-up to a back-up
to a back-up also got the same message???

Copy of e-mail sent by my "nerdy"classmate to USF admissions--------

Sir-

Two of my fellow classmates have just been accepted as true freshmen for the upcoming 2012 freshman class and on my USF admissions status page, there is a message indicating that my application has been deferred pending further review.
Although I genuinely wish my fellow classmates success at USF, their aggregate GPA was in the 3.7 range with an ACT average score of 27. My submitted GPA was 4.3 with an ACT score of 33. Without revealing my identity, could you please advise me how this was possible ? Can you provide any guidance ?

Hmm, post here their reply back if he gets one!

All of these people with lower stats than mine are getting accepted while I got deferred, just like your friend. So I’m curious as to how they respond to that.

Also, anybody have any idea how long it normally takes for them to make their 2nd decision on the application?

As mentioned on another thread, according to the website thy don’t make any decisions until October… Which means they’ve only been admitting for 4 days now. There is no need to get worked up yet, it’s only October it took them 2 months to admit me, an I was valedictorian with a 4.7 and 32 ACT… Lol

I was just thinking, maybe you guys with great stats have been deferred because they figure that you are going to go somewhere else like UF or out of state? I really can’t imagine them not wanting top students but maybe that’s the reason. Have you all applied to more selective schools as well?

Relax. USF, same as other Florida state universities, will process close to 30,000 freshmen admission applications and the notices some are receiving simply state that they are still working on your apps–it takes time to process the apps. Maybe they need to do verifications, or maybe they are simply backed up with work; they maybe though shouldn’t have sent applicants the not entirely clear deferred notifications which seem confusing.

USF isn’t deferring anyone because they think applicants plan on going to another school. Hold on to your horses everyone and be patient.

^^^^^
Thank you-
But why are other applicants with lower stats are getting in now ?
I would feel much better if USF would just say----
Congradulations, now pay your deposit

Maybe your file is in the Honors College pile now and is being held up a little while they work on your invite to the Honors College? It could be anything, maybe the guy handling your file just works slower than the guy at the next desk! Sit tight for a few days and maybe contact USF next week if you don’t hear any more from them soon.
