admitted for spring semester-possible to alter the decision?

I had a uw gpa 3.48. However, I am doing extremely well my senior year. Should i sent in a midyear report to show the admissions that I am a competitive candidate? Has anybody done so?

I am instate and CP is my top choice. I really want to attend the fall semester. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

My D just found out she was accepted for Spring as well. She's very upset. My wife called the admissions office and talked to someone who said they had 27,000 applications this year and that 4050 were accepted. She said she should be proud that she got it. She said it nicely. I'm not sure if those number are accurate though because collegeboard says the fall freshman class is about 4000 and they accept 44% of students. Maybe she was quoting the actual number who attend.

But she has good grades 3.88 uw and took about 6 AP classes. She also wants to go into engineering which I thought would make it easier to get accepted. Her SATs were moderate. M = 630, CR = 580, W = 680.

The admissions lady said that they don't even consider the major. My D also has 2 friends that got accepted for the Fall. One has lower GPA, lower SAT, and hardly took any AP classes. The other has high CR but low Math SAT. I think it's a crap shoot. All girls are caucasian. Also in-state.

The College Board data might be a little out of date since things are getting more competitive every year. This is UMD's toughest year yet.

if 4000 are accepted for fall, how many are accepted for spring?

i was thinking shouldn't those admitted spring semester have a better chance of moving up to fall semester than those waitlisted?

After people confirm/refuse enrollment, how do they fill up the spots? with those waitlisted? or those admitted spring semester?

I just wanted to let you know that unless something has changed from last year, Maryland no longer has a wait list. They have a program called "Freshman Connection" that enables Spring admits to take classes on campus and participate in all events. It doesn't offer housing - so that is a bit of a problem.

My daughter just completed the Freshman Connection program in the Fall and is now attending as a Spring admit. I would be happy to give my impressions of the program.

My daughter was upset at first that she wasn't in the dorms, but everything turned out fine - She was happy to be at Maryland.

Anyone females admitted for the Spring be grateful, seems they did not take too many females with strong apps. My cousin 720CR/680M/700W #2 in her class got rejected,9 APs, 3 guys from her class with 580-600s no APs got in

nunofyurbeesknees :

was it harder for her socially since she wasn't forced to live with people? What's the housing situation like for freshman connections? Also, what are the freshman connection classes like? I really want to go to Maryland but this is something that is holding me back just slightly...

4000 admitted are for priority applicants only, and they still have RD admission that probably will admit more than 4000.

I wonder if spring 09 is already being accepted what will be the gpa/sat needed in RD for fall? Someone said that it is harder to get into fall as an rd, plus you lose out for scholarships.

on the decision thread there is a link that UMD did have 27,000 applicants for admission, but I thought RD wasn't closed until Mar. If so I would believe that the number will still go up for admissions.

The article also stated that had a 17% increase in applicants compared to last year.

nonofyurbeesknees - my D got in spring admit for this year. I would really appreciate any info about freshman connection. Did your daughter live with a roommate? We live in California and it would be essential for her to find a few people to "bond" with in the beginning of the fall semester if she's living off campus. Also, did your D get into the dorms for spring? Any info would be really appreciated.

wired08 and elizabethh- I undertand all of your concerns!!!!

My daughter is in an apartment with 3 other freshman connection girls. The apartment she is in is made a decision last year not to rent to freshman but they made that decision after she had given a deposit so she was allowed to live there. It was a bit of a hassle but it worked out. I'm not sure what the owners of the apartment are going to do this year.
There are other apartments like the Towers that do rent to freshman and there are lots of Freshman Connection kids there.
My daughter did have an opportunity to go on campus this semester but she couldn't sublet so she and all of her roommates are staying through the year.
Living in an apartment is certainly different than the dorms. To me, the dorms are preferable, but she has made the best of it.
If you want to PM me I will be happy to discuss everything further.

She did very well in her classes and is quite happy at Maryland.
I suggest that your kids go onto Facebook to see if there is a Freshman Connection or Spring Admit class of 2012 page started yet.

Will be happy to talk further.

I'm just wondering if I got accepted by the spring semester, dose that mean I'm still going to the department I've applied for the fall semester, except that I'm going in there by the spring instead of fall?

When you receive your letter, it will say which school/program you were accepted to

how come mine didn't say anything about the school I got accepted to?

Unlike the fall semester people, spring semester only receives a one page letter which says nothing about the first choice school.

True, but in the letter it says: "In the next two weeks, you will receive an official letter of admission for the spring semester and the Spring Enrollment Packet...the packet will include information about orientation, campus housing, financial aid, and more." I'm guessing it will mention something about school/major in the letter as well.

btw, bubble tea is amazing!

Thanks ^^

fromstartofinish~ firstly, doesn't your hs guidance dept, automatically send in your mid-year report? i think they should, as it's a requirement of colleges. secondly, and i've said this recently on another thread, my d had quite a few friends who took the spring admission. they went and set up an apt. ( apparently thru the school) in the preceding summer and took fall classes unmatriculated, and transferred them in, in the spring. they felt they were there all along, and loved it!

Look on the planner letter, in the top right corner. Our DS was accepted to Scholars, so it doe not say a particular school...i.e journalism, just his intended major
