American Eagle/Hollister/etc. popular in college?

J crew and banana republic styles seem.. so.. old for me. I can wear that in my 30s, why would I wear that now?

^american apparel has.. interesting stuff lol. like that place for things i can't find in other places.

what's funny about brands like Christian Audigier and Affliction? They have awesome clothes and they last ages without looking worn out.

It seems to be the uniform for Long Island/New Jersey guidos with too much gel in their hair and way too much Axe spray on their body.

^ no way, i've lived on the island my whole life and never saw Audigier or Afflication til college - it's for the NJ/Staten Island/Brooklyn guidos, thank you very much :)

God I hope no one wears those brands. I don't want to go to a school with a bunch of dbags (I'm sooooooo open minded lol, but really, people do look like ******s while wearing them)

"I'm not sure.

I'm a junior in high school and would have no problem wearing American Eagle, Hollister, etc... in college. I like most if not all of their clothes. "

Well that's the point. You don't want a college student to think like a "junior in high school".

^^ Pretty much. I tend to equate Hollister, and anyone wearing Hollister or its variants, with high school.

Hollister is comfy though

thats like the only good thing about it

I'm going to stick with the thrift shops and consignment stores. Those are the best.

Replying to post 66

Think like a high school student just because of clothing?
No

Plus, a high school junior and a freshmen/ sophmore college student does not think that much different.

Oh for eff's sake. They sell the same damn style clothes as Walmart and Kohls. Some things at A&F have atrocious quality (tees) and others are much more luxurious than anything at Walmart (hoodies). It's the "basics looks". Solid colors, some stripes, some plaid, but not as wild as UrbanOutfitters or Hot Topic. Icky tripp pants and anime junk deserve criticism because they are icky fashion no-no's. But calling a generic striped polo from Hollicrombie & Eagle "high schoolish" is a very ignorant thing to do.

you’re right, that’s such a childish wardrobe choice that nobody should wear it past middle school

^^ LMAO
10char.

^^ LMAO MALLGAWTH

Enjoy your twilights.

Only time I’ve encountered college students critizing these stores discussed ( hollister, american eagle, abercrombie etc
) is online. To be more specific, I’ve also only encountered such ridiculous ( some may even claim childish) behavior on collegeconfidential.com. I now question even more if many of the students on collegeconfidential.com who present themselves as college students are actually college a student ( or to be exact, attend the university claim). Making such a big deal about such clothing lines is part of raising the question. These stores are a okay to be purchase high school, college student etc
Just like any other clothing line. J Crew, Banna Republic, etc
I see attracting more of the late 20’s + crowd at the least. Though yes there are many stores to select your clothes from.

Without a doubt, people wear A&F, AE, Hollister less and less as they get older. It’s ridiculous if anyone on here denies that. I’m a junior in high school, and that fad has already pretty much diminished in my class. Mostly freshmen/sophomores at my school wear those clothes. But they’re still seen here and there in junior class, just not as much. I remember everyone being obsessed with them in middle school. Then it just started disappearing more and more in high school as people started realizing they looked like losers. Haha. =]

Junior in high school and would easly purchase AE, Hollister etc
as a high school or college student. Though the negatively of these stores on cc is high. Though it’s obvious that many students negative view of these stores is more than just the clothing itself, though what ever their negative view reason is pointless. It’s a clothing store, buy the clothes or not. I found myself to really defend these stores on this website a lot, to help many with their lack of open mindness or somesort. Though now I only notice many users issue with the stores seem to be more of a odd personal problem.

Says the person whose focus is on the perception on preps and hipsters. I doubt someone who’s still focused on juvenile labels would understand that those brands, as with any other clothing brand, is popular among different age ranges.
That’s the purpose. To market towards specific age ranges. You don’t see 60 year-olds wearing much Hollister

Even if it weren’t, it’s opinion. It seems as if you’re taking the negative comments of Abercrombie to heart. Unless you’re getting paid, I wouldn’t take it so personally.

It’s obvious American Eagle, Hollister etc
do not have middle schoolers and high school students advertise on their website. They are focus towards more college students. Speaking of J Crew, Banana Republic etc
look at their website models, they seem to focus more on those in their late 20’s ( at the least) and 30+.

Yeah it’s an opinion, I started this thread, and I will reply to those I get.

Lol, okay this isn’t a thread I started. I’m thinking of hippies and preps, where Abercrombie, Hollister etc
was mention often.
