Anybody else doing Bama Bound on July 9-10?

bamagirls, we figured that one out! We had been to the Northport location on our first trip to town. We went to the original location on our second trip, partly because it was closer to our hotel. It was dark and we followed the car’s circuitous GPS route, increasingly sure we were being led out to meet our demise somewhere. D asked if ‘this was how the movie Deliverance began’.

We eventually made it (alive) and were only disappointed at the lack of choices.

On another note, D is literally counting the days until early move-in!!

Gimme the original Dreamland any day. Ain’t nothin’ like it nowhere. :)

^^I’m guessing you are a rib kinda guy…

lattelady - You hit the nail on the head with “this was how the movie Deliverance began.” When we visited the campus back in October we went to the original location not knowing there was another location. We almost didn’t get out of the car. We are flying in tomorrow for Bama Bound and hopefully we will have a chance to visit the second location.

You might also want to give Archibald & Woodrow’s a try, but they close at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday…carry out only after 5:30. Their wings are unbelievable. Don’t be put off by the building.

They have barbecue, ribs, wings, veggies, etc…great food and service.

When my son and I visited UA for the first time, Dreamland was our first stop. It was a dark and stormy winter night (literally). There were maybe 8 customers in the joint. Our waitress wore a UA baseball cap and had an accent as thick as molasses. When she brought us the white bread and BBQ dipping sauce we, being foreigners, were incredulous, then hooked.

She chatted us up about where we (obvious rubes) were from. When she learned we were from Hawaii and that my son was considering UA she gasped, took a step back, and said to him, “Sugar, now why in the hell would you want to do that?”

And now you know the end of the story.

Our favorite eating experience during BB was 5 (five). It’s located in downtown area. They only offer 5 main dishes a night, but the food was fantastic! If you’re feeling adventurous try the baked avacado for an appetizer, it was amazing.

Hubby and I practically ate our way through Alabama! Don’t kill me here, but Dreamland BBQ was not our favorite. I think we are too used to TX BBQ (beef).

^^^Having “lived” in Memphis for a year, we too were spoiled and didn’t care for Dreamland, either. But we are foodies, coming from New Orleans, so our girth does not reveal our pickiness, but we also find many food places do not live up to the hype! I think we were at the original location, so all that was offered was the ribs, and sorry, nothing beats Memphis ribs! We will have to try the Northport location.

But, give me a good view, and I could care less about the taste or quality of the food.

Just love Cypress Inn. For the Vegas mom, I would recommend eating there. You’ll get a beautiful view of the river, and the food is wonderful. Good Southern cooking.

I have 2nd Cypress Inn!!
My son is a BAMA bound leader and also works at Cypress Inn – He’s the one with the “Chicago twang”!!
Have a great visit and Roll Tide!!!

Cypress Inn reservation tomorrow at 5:45 ;)

Apparently my invitation was lost in the mail.

Have fun at Bama Bound and if you stop by Gallettes have a yellowhammer for me.

Taking a 6 am flight to ATL tomorrow then driving to TTown. Could not be more excited! Going with my parents and my younger brother who is 16. Any last minute suggestions for orientation?

Good luck and have fun. Just remember that even if you don’t get the schedule you want you don’t need to be disappointed. There will be other upcoming opportunities for you to tweak it and get something more favorable.

If you have time after registering then “walk your schedule” so that you’ll have a good idea of where your classes are when you get back in August. It’s easy to get disoriented those first few days when there are thousands of kids walking around and you’re not familiar with the campus.

I would second casino’s suggestion to walk your schedule…even if it’s not your “best” or “final” one. It was one of the best things we did to prepare DD for her first day. Start at your dorm. Walk to each class…get a good look at the building and surrounding area. It’s very true once you add students and the fact it’s the first day (some will have first day jitters…just saying) that things look different.

En route 65 South (for 8 more hours) all decked out in BAMA wear! ROLL TIDE!

DD is en route from BHM via the door to door shuttle right now. Miss her already. August will kill me.

Kaylyns-let me know if she has any issues. We’ll be driving through BHM in roughly 3 hours. I’ll PM my cell.

Thank you. She arrived safe and sound. Sitting in dorm lobby waiting for 4 pm check in. Says everything is closed on campus.

From Honors dorms walk toward the stadium, at University Blvd turn right. It’s about a 7 or 8 minute walk to Buffalo Bill’s, Subway, TCBY, etc. That’s considered The Strip area.

^^^^ha, I just realized I was calling it Buffalo Bills… It’s Buffalo Phil’s. Oops.
