Anyone applying here?

I'm busting into the board to say that I was accepted as a Dean's Scholar as well...now it's just down to the actual deciding part...

yea same. i think whitman is a reach, so most likely ill end up at scu. if i dont get enough money ill head to colorado

My brother goes to SCU, and I've visited a few times as well. It looks exactly like the pictures and the weather is almost always sunny and warm. (Perfect school if one of your main concerns is weather.)

Just to forwarn you guys: EVERYONE there wears flip-flop. My brother calls it "flip-flop land"... If you don't own a pair, either buy some or be the only one on campus wearing shoes (you'll see who my brother is).
There's also a lot of stereotypical college fun at SCU, so I guess if you like that stuff, you should fit right in. But mostly it's a nice bunch of students, none of them seem to be overly preppy or anything.

In terms of academics, it's a great school! Many of the professors are also Stanford profs and most of them are excellent.
If you want to do psychology, SCU is where you should go. Their phych department is amazingly good and taught by exellent teachers.

SCU is not my absolute first choice (it is about 30 mins away from home for me), but I hope to get in because I could see myself going there if none of my super-reach schools take me.

I hope you all have fun at SCU next year!

JBPH,
Is it true that class rank is not considered?

Glad to hear everyone wears flip flops. DD has about 20 pairs of them...something to match every outfit. She loved the campus when she visited, and the programs in the sciences, and the fact that she will be able to continue playing her oboe and English horn but not as a music major really made the difference. She says the campus is the perfect size!!

Congrats Thumper1 to you and your daughter. Hope my s will get into SCU as well RD. UPS is like this too. We were there in November(Tacoma) and it was really chilly and wet. Sitting in the admissions office we watched all the students walking around in flip flops with jackets and sweaters. They just don't care about the rain.

^not that you asked me, but i think scu does consider class rank. i know that they do report that X% of students attending were in the top 10%, 20%, etc. of thier h.s. classes, so i know they at least keep the statistics.

JBPH - ha, can you elaborate on the "stereotypical college fun at SCU". i had always read that scu was a very tame school in terms of parties and whatnot, and to be honest, this was really the only negative aspect of scu i saw (heh, for me at least).

yeah i heard parties there get blown up really fast

^ uh, blown up as in shut down or blown up as in get out of control?

I'm pretty sure they look at class rank, but I don't think it's important. Our HS doesn't rank and my brother got in.

These are the stats I found:
37% in top 10th of graduating class (out of those admitted)
72% in top quarter of graduating class
100% in top half of graduating class

Parties depend on the people with whom you party (or just hang out with in general). =P From what I know, there is a party atmosphere and if you want to have fun, you'll always find people willing to have fun with you. I'm not sure how much drinking there is at SCU in comparison to most other colleges, but I know that my brother has beer in the fridge in his dorm. I wouldn't worry about not being able to party. I think they are strict about not drinking, but as long as you don't do it stupidly, in the middle of the hall while screaming, you should be fine.

haha as in shut down. by cops. (i think i heard this on one of those campusdirt type websites though, so who knows how reliable a source that is, although multiple people said it) but i have a friend who goes to scu and LOVES it, says theres plenty to do and the people are extremely laid back which is definitely a good quality..

hey everyone- i just submited my app todayy :) just wondering though, is there an extra app for merit aid? i didnt see any but i easily could have missed it cause i did common app. thanks!

Did anyone get an Estimated Award Offer with their EA acceptance?? I do not believe there is a separate ap for merit aid, but you must meet the deadlines for filing the Profile and FAFSA to receive your final finaid award (and I do believe this includes merit).

And another question....if the EA acceptance does NOT mention any kind of merit aid possibility, does this mean that the student will not get ANY merit aid at all?? Or was this just for the Dean's scholars...and students accepted with distinction?

Congradulations to your D thumper. Santa Clara was one of the few schools my D did not get merit as I believe 1350 is the cutoff(not inc writing). Their finaid was fair but not as good as most of the schools as well which put it out of consideration for my D last year. The merit I believe comes with acceptance as we called last year about that.I would still call and check as each year may be different. Good luck!!

Haha. "D Thumper" sounds like the name of a truck or something.

And, arizonamom-- 1350 is the cutoff? What's 1350 (dollars, SAT scores etc.)?

^um probably SAT considering she said it was "(not including writing)"...

Damnit. I have a 1300 (without writing)

I applied about a week and a half ago RD.

Stats
3.39 unweigthed, 3.9 weighted. top 40% Very competitive hs.
6 AP courses, numerous honors. 2000 sat i.
not incredibly good EC's, kind of lame. i only listed 3 (good ones, i hope).

chance analysis? :P

my guidance counselor said i have a good chance at making it. SO, i'm kind of considering SCU a good match-safety.. i think i am jinxing myself.

Uh, I think you'll get in. In fact I'm almost sure you will... They care more about GPA than SAT scores, though, so still don't assume you'll get in.
