I don't get why people complain about how they hate paying taxes, yet on the other hand want better roads, libraries, and education.

Well since we ARE paying taxes we expect to see these things like libraries, education and roads...instead that money is going to the war, welfare and GOD FORBID abortions with Obama's FOCA act.

I just think its funny how people are so bitter that OBAMA won and they don't see how anyone could have voted for him. OVER half the country voted for him, therefore more people agree with him than disagree with him.

If we can deal with a Republican president for 8 years, we can deal with a Democratic president for 4.

That's the way a capitalist society works. Kind of sucks for some people, but it's America.

That is so cruel and heartless for you to say. All I can say is that I hope one day you can see first-hand what it is like to live in the inner-city, so you can understand.

education is the way out of poverty, but not all education is created equal. im not even gonna get into this thread anymore...

AvantTao - Calling what I said "cruel and heartless" does not change the fact that America works in this way.

Education is a way out, and not all high school education is needed to be created equal, but rather you do the best with what you can. Why is it that my grandparents came to America with pretty much nothing and were able to rise up and live decent lives? The drive to succeed can be pretty powerful...

Republicans and Democrats have the same viewpoints on the important issues and only differ on the issues of lesser importance to keep everyone distracted. They keep everyone yelling about the death penalty, abortion and gay marriage while destroying the economy and intervening in as many foreign affairs as possible. Both parties believe in government intervention in the market and foreign policy intervention. Republicans claim to believe in free markets, but are truly far from being true free market believers.

So what exactly are the important issues? Enlighten us.

Mitt Romney is Mexican. Just throwing that out there...

They don't have the same stances on the "importan" issues... please tell me what these "issues" are... also, republicans favor a lot less government intervention than the democrats.

Ron Paul is very LIBERTARIAN (my bad) and I hope he wins in 2012... Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question but is he running as a repulican for president? I am not even sure considering Palin wants to run for president in 2012.

You mean libertarian? Totalitarian means people like Mussolini, Stalin, Castro, Hitler, and the like.

Oh my gosh hahaha wow, my mistake, yes i meant libertarian haha wow

"1) Welfare is stupid - its made for lazy poor people who dont work and never got an education while the hard working, well educated americans have to pay for them.

I'm not racist or anything....Individual Liberty is stupid... if you immigrate to an ENGLISH SPEAKING country then you should SPEAK ENGLISH!

These aliens, blacks, mexicans and all aliens complain when they can't get a job saying that white people are the only ones hired... Very untrue... It's because they can't speak f***in english properly!! I'm sick of it...

You don't see a ton of Americans hopping over the mexican border and hanging out at home depot looking for work do you???"

I'm sure you can count the number of Black or Latino friends you have on one hand. Not a racist...sure. Since when do African Americans and Mexicans not speak English? I'm pretty sure that I'm fluent.

I'm sure you have money and have never had to be poor in your life but that doesn't give you a reason to be so harsh. We're in a recession and there are plenty of people who have gone to college or trade school but have lost their jobs unexpectedly. Only 17% of companies are hiring and there's a lot of competition. It's not like people are throwing jobs at their feet and they are simply too lazy too take it. Plus, have you not met poor White Americans? I know plenty who are currently on welfare or food stamps.

Coming from another country is not easy. My mother came from the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and barely had a roof over her head or food to eat. She's now a hard working middle class citizen but its not that simple for everyone.

Unless you've been poor or have actually had to struggle for once in your life. Don't judge others. I hope your atheist because I don't know anyone truly religious who doesn't believe in "do onto others as you would like to be done onto you." That being said, I know plenty of compassionate, kindhearted atheists.

On a lighter side note...
Is Obama more attractive than McCain?
I think the answer is damn obvious.

SpicyPolls - Which presidential candidate is more attractive?

"1) Welfare is stupid - its made for lazy poor people who dont work and never got an education while the hard working, well educated americans have to pay for them."

I hope you lose all your money to the bad economy and become homeless. Maybe you wouldn't be so ignorant. Ignorance is not bliss. Ignorance is what makes you look like a newb on forums.

Yes, America does work that way, but I think many more people would be a lot happier if it wasn't so cutthroat in our society. From your prior statement, it seemed like you did not even care about those who are impoverished.

I agree that you must do the best you can given your resources, but wouldn't it be better if the poorer schools got more cash so they had more up-to-date materials and supplies? My school is so poor that we did no experiments in biology and only 2 in chemistry. Compared this to a middle-class student who was able to complete more experiments and interact with the subject more. If a poor person really needs to work THAT hard to be on a subpar level as their richer peers, then the system is clearly wrong. I am not saying it should be exactly equal, but allocating more money and resources so that poorer students can develop their full potential is needed in America.

rising from poverty is relatively "easy" if you have a stable family to support you, but if your parents are crack-head/prostitutes you're on your own. Why would someone who is all alone even want to live, let alone climb up the capitalist hierarchy.

2) Closing Guantanamo Bay - Is this a joke?? Do we want some of the most dangerous people in the world who hate America more than anything.. ON AMERICAN SOIL. ***!!
also, most of the people who are released go back and rejoin Al-Qaeda

3) Black Reparation money - are you serious?????? Really a bad idea... if this goes through the KKK will be getting PLENTY of new members...

We also had a radically democratic congress the last 4 years... also, if Obama had something like 9/11 happen, he wouldnt do much better.

radically left? What are communists then? You clearly lack a basic knowledge of politics, take some remedial government class before you criticize policy choices~~

Double Edit: Preemptively declaring you a troll

Triple Edit: ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm i dont knowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

I could write a long set of arguments rejecting the OP's claims... but I'll just come out with it and say:

1). You don't understand jack about what's going on.
2). The divide between Democrats and Republicans are not that clear cut as most Americans falsely believe... they're just different ideologies looking toward a same goal.

Yes... more Whites are on welfare than Blacks because their are more, and Blacks probably have a higher percentage on welfare. So what does that prove? Considering that minorities have been excluded from most white collar jobs and higher educational institutions until only four decades ago, I'm surprised our country is doing so well despite this... Welfare support, tax cuts to the corporations, they're all aimed at the same thing in the long run... we don't give companies tax cuts because of our benevolence, but in our expectation that they will give more to charity and hire more workers...

and basically... both systems don't really accomplish anything...

There... I've posted what I want. Now go away troll...

^Tax cuts for corporations have nothing to do with "charity." They'll hire more workers as a side effect, but the goal is to make more money. That's what corporations are, machines to bolster our economy. They have no loyalties to any country, nor are they necessarily bound to make decisions based on ethics. Their job is to profit, and that's what they're good at.
