AP English Language and Composition Post Exam Thoughts

Hahaha. That is true.

@JamesGold, the AP lang exam unfortunately has one of the least forgiving curves of all the exams :(. For the 2007 released exam, you needed a 110 score (out of 150). That’s approximately 75% of the questions right, assuming you answer them all, and getting a 6 or 7 on your essays.

The MC questions were easy. Thank god for the footnote questions, has anyone looked at previous exams? The footnote questions on previous ones were dreadful.

I breezed through the MC, but I probably got 6, 5, 6 on the essays.
I’m expecting a 4
Seriously though, that was WAY easier than I thought it would be.
Maybe my AP teacher was just really hard on us…

Wow, both english and US History were extremely easy compared to the practice tests we took.

I answered all the MC and had 4 pages on synthesis 2.5 on Rhetorical analysis and 3.5 on Argument. I felt like it all went very well and despite past MC I could actually get a 5.

The synth was hard…did it matter what position we took?

MC was incredibly easy and I loved the synthesis topic.

The synthesis was really easy. They ALWAYS have essays pertaining to that topic, lol. And t he argument? Beautiful. Just freaking beautiful. The only troublesome part of the whole test was the rhetorical analysis, and even that was ok.

I completely tore apart the guy for the rhetorical essay… is that bad?

When you guys say pages, do you mean the front and back counted as a page or each side separately?

@manbeam… you clearly didn’t take calculus…

Im not sure comparatively, but Calc BC was easy.

I meant the front as just one page. So I guess 2 f&b synthesis 1.25 f&B rhetorical 1.75 f&b argument.

I took AB haha
I’m far better at English though, so that’s probably why this one seemed so much easier.

That test was SO EASY! I didn’t even need to take the class, I could have probably taken the exam at the end of my sophomore year and still get like a 3. It is possible (though a bit unlikely) that I got every MC question right. I thought my essays were pretty good, in general mine tend to be kinda short but that usually doesn’t hurt me. The third essay was a little weird, as soon as I read the question I was like “What the hell dude…” and I just kinda stared at the page for 5 minutes, but I thought of good arguments while I was writing and it was actually fun to write about. I don’t want to jinx myself, but I probably got a 5.

I’m horrible at m/c -_-
but my english teacher assigned us just about the same prompt as the DBQ and my history teacher made us read the 2nd Essay a long time ago =P

MC was way easy but my argumentative essay could have been better

The test wasn’t overly difficult. I don’t want to say it was easy, because every time I do that, I end up scoring lower than I expect. There were some moments I was just iffy on. To be completely honest, I do not remember the entire experience xD
I only skipped one on multiple choice, and that is because my teacher forgot to cover that when we went over footnotes. There were several answers I doubted though.

My essays were probably not my best. I took longer than expected on the synthesis, which probably was not that good anyway. Rhetorical analysis was probably the only one of my essays that had something that resembled an organized structure, and yet again, probably not that good. Open response, I enjoyed. However, by that time I was just mentally exhausted and felt semi-rushed and thus could not generate pretty phrases. Plus, I had to pee, so my focus was diverted. (Not sure if you guys wanted to know that, sorry :P). I think I gave good examples, but my style was probably severely lacking.
I think my essays are definitely going to bring me down. I wrote a lot (4.25, 3.25, and 3.5 pages) but they were so… disjointed. I particularly hated my synthesis essay - I couldn’t qualify as well I as I would have liked. The entire time I was writing it, I thought, “This is such crap.” And then I nearly had a heart attack because the timer went off RIGHT after I finished my last essay… but I hadn’t numbered my essays yet. As it turns out though, the beeper on marked the “ten minutes left period.”

To be completely honest, I’ll be disappointed if I score lower than a 5, simply because my class took a mock AP exam (one of the previous ones) and my composite score on that was 130. But at the same time, I don’t feel like I deserve a 5. Waiting until July is going to drive me insane.

MC - I felt like I destroyed it. A lot of them were 50/50 answers to me, but I believe I got at least 35 right. Skipped 5 questions.

Synthesis- I destroyed it. Like my two body paragraphs were perfect, I linked them to perfection. Had I had a little more time, because I went over the time and started rushing, I would’ve added a little bit more elavated diction. So I’m guessing a 7.

Analysis- I died on this one. I finished the essay, but as I wrote it I felt like it was so BS. The thesis statement sucked. But the time constraints made me rush it so I skipped the conclusion and wrote it after I finished all the essays. I analyzed it good but structure of the essay was terrible. I had problems bringing everything together and having a good flow. Very spotty. 4

Argument- I liked the topic and it was nice, but i died on this one too. Like my thesis statement was good at first, but then I realized that I put it as the first sentence and I had to scratch it out. Then when I rewrote it as the last sentence, I tried changing it a little and the essay from that point on was crap. I used a lot of examples but had a lot of trouble wording it so that they linked and had a good flow. I realized that I was saying the same thing pretty much the whole time, just in a different way. My worst essay with the second best prompt. 4

Overall I’m thinking a 3. Only because of the last two essays.

MC easy, last essay easy

I thought the test was very fair. The MCQ were far easier than any practice we did in class. I am hoping for atleast a 4.
