AP scores are ready by phone

Just checked the mail and still no AP scores for my daughter! Anybody on here from Georgia got their scores yet? She is anxious to know because UGA uploaded their scores last week, so a lot of her friends found out already.

i emailed the teacher and asked.

she told me.

Those of you who have students who are awaiting word on AP scores: You can check your transcript to see if they have been posted. They will be listed as pass/fail. As of Thursday night, a friend whose son will attend UA told me that they had not been posted on the transcript.

Ya they are not on my transcript yet but that’s good to know so I have another place to check.

i have checked degreeworks and they aren’t posted there.

Does anyone know if Dual Credit Geology counts for the general science core?? Degree works has posted my son’s transfer credits for dual enrollment classes, but Geology is not on there anywhere. Do I need to call the registrar’s office? By the way, I ran into my son’s guidance counselor from high school in Walmart this week. She knew my son’s AP scores, so come Monday if you don’t have your child’s scores I would call the high school.

Sometimes certain dual-enrollment courses take longer to transfer over. I know that my transcript was updated until September when certain credits finally transferred over. I would think that geology would count towards the general science core, possibly with lab credit.

When I called the registrar about how my courses were transferring, they transferred me over to my college and I talked to the lady who does all the transfer credits for my college.

Bamafana: Go to the Student Tab of mybama. In the middle of the page, there is a heading called “Access to Important Student Documents.” Under that, there is an entry for Letter of Transiency. Click on it. On the next page, you will be asked to give the semester/year, state and college attended. Put in the information. On the next portion, you can select the classes to be transferred. You do not need to send all of this to Alabama. It will give you an idea if those classes can be transferred and honored at Alabama.

Why doesn’t AP Envi Sci count as a Science? What is the point of taking an AP if you can’t get any credit for it? S is trying to get AP credits so he can take a minor or second major or more electives. He has scheduled this class for Sr. Year. This and non AP calc is sounding like a really difficult waste of time.

our AP scores came in the mail yesterday.

some kids take as many AP classes so that they can have the “most rigorous” box checked or get one of the AP awards. every college is different in what they will accept. you either do your homework ahead of time and take only what will transfer, or you take some things that may not transfer. many kids retake classes they have credit for, like math and science, to make sure they know the concepts. my DD is taking CALC I even though she has the AP credit already. she also has credit for two years of history, but i think she only “needs” 1.5 years, so she has some history credits that will not “count.”

momreads, I tried your advice but when I click on letter of transiency I get an error message? I’ll try again tomorrow. Thank you and SEA_Tide for your advice, I’ll have my son call his college tomorrow! Since the dual enrollment credit has been applied to degreeworks, I wonder when the AP will be credited? Hopefully soon…My DS is trying to decide on that double major based on how much credit he gets. Thanks to everyone!

and for some odd reason Statistics AP isn’t counted as a math but as a “C” or computer class, which D doesn’t need. But it counts as an elective so the credits will count towards her degree.

I guess the one I don’t get is the AP English Lit vs. English Language. Either one of them counts for Eng 101 & 102; looking at the readings for 201 & 202 I think that AP Eng Language should count towards 201 & 202 but they don’t. That’s the only AP class she won’t get any credit for, but she loved it, would never have considered not taking the AP version of English & she had a great teacher.

Bamafana: Sorry you are having trouble with the letter of transiency. It worked this morning when I clicked on it.

As for AP Environmental Science, Alabama is currently evaluating the curriculum which department, if any, will give credit for it. I got that from another parent the other night. Even if your son or daughter starts college without it on his/her transcript and later on, approval is given, one receives that credit.

While there is an incentive to take courses that will give one college credit, it is certainly okay to take courses just because you want to take them. I’ve classes that I knew would have a slim to none chance of transferring and I’m fine with that. If your child likes a certain subject or wants to take a class from a certain teacher, I’d suggest letting them. For example, I knew that I probably wouldn’t get credit for my AP lit class, but I enjoyed the teacher and it ended up being my favorite class during my senior year.

S will not have the most rigorous box checked, almost most rigorous but private school pretty much offers APs for math and science only not too much else. He is a humanities type. So… there is nothing much left that he has a strong interest in taking this year which is why he is taking a couple of college classes this summer as well as an independent study next year. Read on other thread that AP Envi Sci might be counted by 'bama so that will be good. Really rethinking non AP cal. S doesn’t have a ton of transferable credits was hoping for 12-18 so he would have some more flexibility in minor and electives. So I’m hoping he can get two countable classes this year.

i think most rigorous matters for some schools. i don’t think alabama is one of them. it may matter for programs like fellows or CBHP. idk.

if he can handle the AP CAL, then have him take it. if he is a humanities type, this could cover his math requirement.

Do you need to get at least a 4 on the exam to be exempt? Don’t know if he could handle it. Science ok, but math is not his greatest subject. I think maybe he had an 87 in precal, non honors.

there is an AP credit chart on the ua website at: [University of Alabama Undergraduate Catalog 2008-10](<a href=“Page Not Found | The University of Alabama”>Page Not Found | The University of Alabama)

Depending on whether he takes Calc AB or Calc BC, a 3 or above would net him 4-8 credits.

Wow, 6 credits each for AP US & AP Euro- thats great. Thats a big help. Does anyone know how they are with other college credit? S is taking Eng 102 (he already took AP) and Psych 101; 3 credits each this summer. They’ll give him credit for those, right?
