AP scores are ready by phone

^^bassettmomma, et al., have you tried the procedure I suggested 8 posts above? If not, give it a whirl and see if that rectifies the situation.

D’s scores were not up yesterday, but partially up today. Check back this afternoon following Malanai’s directions and they may be in. I guess with all those AP credits to be posted it takes awhile.

bassettmomma - don’t worry we’re still waiting for upload on our end. Like said it takes time to get everybody in.

For anyone still waiting, my AP credits are showing up under my Academic Transcript, even though they aren’t in DegreeWorks yet.

My sons APs are also on his transcript. Yep checked it, all 29 units!

hmmmm
so now does he revisit the “should I take Calc I or Calc 2?” issue when his AP Calc came out so surprisingly well?
Was not expecting that -
Maybe he is ready for Calc 2 :)

Three more weeks - right? That’s my cutoff for micromanaging this stuff.

For TheStudent and anyone else who is missing past year scores here is the emailed reply I received for my query to College board

AL34: My son and one of his friends say that they have one regret about their freshman scheduling – that they did not trust a gut feeling and chose to repeat calculus (in my son’s case, as an audit because he had not had the class since his sophomore year). My son had a 5 on the BC. His friend also had a 4 or 5 on the AB. They thought that they should repeat the class as a refresher. In the end, they truly were prepared and should have gone to the next level of math.

^ Thanks for the input - that’s exactly the kind of info with actual students we are looking for!
Found a small (max 30) non-Honors Calc2 with a few spaces avail, which looks like a good option since there are apparently no Honors Calc2 in the Fall. Surprised that for the same courses the max size can vary from 30 to 75ish!

If your son does choose to wait for the Honors Calculus 2, he can take it in the spring. There is always one section offered. Also, with the AP scores being posted, you will see some additional openings in classes in the next two weeks or so. Students will be dropping and adding classes once professors are listed for some classes. My son said, for example, if the professor he had for Spanish in the spring taught a section of his upcoming class, he would not hesitate to switch if convenient, as he really enjoyed her teaching style.

Momreads - am I reading your post correctly? My S got a 5 on his BC exam and personally feels confident in calc. He’s opted to move on to the next level and not repeat calc II. (he does have to wait until spring as his sched does not permit it this fall). As such he should stick with his original plan and NOT repeat calc II, right?

Socal2bama: My son would recommend going to whatever is the next class. If your son needs a refresher, there are numerous websites for the subject that he can use to review. If you need some suggestions, send me a PM.

I agree with momreads and her son in that your son should not repeat calc II and instead take calc III or whatever is the next course he needs. Getting a 5 on the AP exam shows that he can do really well in calculus/math and would be fine taking a semester off from math classes if such is necessary. This does come from my personal experience of not retaking calc I and going directly to calc II in the spring.

what’s your opinion on taking Calc2 in Fall vs. waiting for Calc2 Honors in the Spring? Is there any distinct advantage to taking the Honors level class?

Perhaps the one advantage is class size. Last spring, only 23 students took the honors 2 class. Don’t know if that makes a difference to your son.

^ the smaller the better, but we did find the one Calc2 class that tops out at 30 for Fall - 8am(!) but he’s used to that…
Other than class size, any input on what makes the Honors class the better choice?

I remember during a meeting with one of my son’s advisers that he commented that the honors professors are hand picked by the Honors College powers-that-be. That said, maybe they are looking for particular professors to work with those students. Not sure.

i would think that honors classes would have the better teachers.

I didn’t take the honors section of calc II because I wasn’t sure I could do well in an honors section since I hadn’t had a math class in over 6 months. To me, the most important thing in choosing a math (or any class) choosing the professor who you will learn best from. I know that the professors aren’t yet posted for math classes, but they soon will be. While a class might officially have 40+ students in it, most days the classes will only be half full. If your child is the type to ask questions during the lecture/homework review, they will be able to do so in any of the different class sizes. At many universities, calculus classes have 100 or 200+ students.

Honors classes generally have better professors, but there are still some excellent professors who teach non-honors classes. Just because a class isn’t honors doesn’t mean that it cannot provide an honors experience.

In looking at the classes this morning, I see a new Calc2 offered which right now has a 0s for spaces offered/avail. etc. Can I assume that means this will opened sometime in the near future? So far all profs are TBA for all Calc2 that I can see.
