Apparently disqualified from cal grant? Doesn't make sense?

So this week I submitted the update for my cal grant and whereas before it said I was eligible to receive a cal grant A now it says I'm not? I received an email tonight from them saying that I am nit eligible for the transfer entitlement grant but I looked over the disqualification sheet and honestly none if the criteria apply to me........ Help anyone please!

I just got the same email… please help, any information would help. Thanks in advance

I’m really hoping this is an error on their part because it doesn’t make sense

can you screenshot?

Screenshot what?

the thing that says you are disqualified

if you are attending a UC and qualify for Blue and Gold (check your financial aid page) it might not make any difference at all. did it say that you might qualify for one of the other calgrants? anyway, good luck dudes.

What was your basis for disqualification?!

It’ll help to let us know, log on to your CalGrant account and it’ll tell you directly why you were disqualified.

Where does it say?! I can’t find that anywhere!

I was disqualified as well and they don’t tell you specifically why. They just give you a vague list of why someone might be disqualified and then you have to match up and figure out yourself why you were disqualified. Funny thing is, I did nothing on the list that would disqualify me.

yes, last year they just stated “score below cutoff” and when i called they said they had taken 9 points (or so) off for each parent that attended college. i lost 18 points. but that was for the competitive calgrant. each case is somewhat unique. if you call, let us know the reason. good luck. anyway, you should get blue and gold, or might if you qualify for that.

It just doesn’t make any sense because none of the disqualification reasons apply to me. I’m going to call them on Monday. I am eligible for blue and gold but does it not matter if you don’t get cal grants?

Well, if you log on to Cal Grant my disqualification was listed like this:

Cal Grant A: Disqualified–Parents income above the ceiling.
Cal Grant B: Disqualified–Parents income above the ceiling.
Cal Grant C: Disqualified–Parents income above the ceiling.

Log on to Cal Grant, click on status

I went to award detail and it doesn’t say anything for me. Is that where you checked?

@ChefCookSwag Check “Application Status.”

When I look at application status it has a link saying your application has been processed and when I click on that it takes me to a screen and this is all it says.

“Your application has been considered for a Cal Grant award. To review the status of your application, please click on the Award Detail screen.”

Okay, well your award detail should say why you didn’t get a certain Cal Grant. Like me, I didn’t get Cal Grant B last year and it says “NEW Cal Grant B Reported Income Over the Ceiling,”

If you don’t see anything, maybe you should just call.

This is literally all it says. Sorry can’t screenshot

According to last year’s income ceilings, you’re above yours, for 2 people. That’s most likely why you got disqualified. I imagine the numbers for this year’s income ceilings aren’t that different. However, since your parents make less than $80,000 you’re covered with Blue & Gold. You should be good. :)

But it says $70,200 is the ceiling for a dependent family size of 2…
