**April 23 ACT Thread**

I got my scores back yesterday and got this:
31 composite - 31.25 rounded down :frowning:
34 English
34 math
32 reading
25 science
10 writing, 33 English/writing
Does anybody who’s really good at the science section have any strategies to improve? I would really like to get it up to at least a 30 and any advice is much appreciated!

@‌engineering2015
did you get it in mail? And what were your sub scores!?! I can’t get anyone to tell me!

@imagineer10 I’m from Illinois and got my scores in the mail. My sub scores are:
English - 18 UM, 17 RS
Math - 18 EA, 15 AG, 18 GT
Reading - 16 SS, 17 AL

Do you have any tips for science? I’m desperate! I need to improve so badly

-1 with reading was 35. I got one wrong on reading section and got a 35.

@engineering2015‌ what part of Illinois are you from?
And for the Science section just understand that the ACT uses words that may confuse people but you need to learn to look past these words and find out what the question is really asking. I would also recommend that you go in order except for the conflicting viewpoints section (save that for last as it takes the most time). You should go straight to the questions don’t bother reading the background info, its usually useless. However, for the conflicting viewpoints my strategy is different: I read one of the viewpoints and then answer all of the questions I can pertaining to that specific viewpoint (while the information is fresh in my mind and so that I won’t confuse the different viewpoints) then I move on to the other viewpoints and do the same. Sorry I know this is lengthy but hopefully it helps you!

It looks like math had a fairly generous curve but not so much in reading…

@enginuity2015 I’m from Illinois and got my scores in the mail yesterday. I would’ve gotten them earlier online on Wednesday like the rest of my school but I spelled my last name wrong so it didn’t show up online… Haha. And thanks for your advice! I’ll try it on a couple of practice tests.

Still nothing in the mail as of today. I am getting so impatient, I just wanna see my score!

Just got it in the mail today: 36 M, 35 R, 36 S, 35 E - lucky and barely made the cut.

@Engineering2015 I got a 34 in science, and I’m assuming that like me your problem is finishing the questions with time to spare. What I do is read the intro(ONLY ONCE unless a question refers back to it) and then read the graphs/tables(axis first and then trend so I can tell the difference between each experiment) then go to the questions.

I tend not to read the what they did for trial 1,2 etc unless referred to in a question and when they do ask what’s the difference between trial 1 and 2 all I have to do is zoop(not sure if this is a word but w/e) back to trial 2 because it tends to state the difference between it and the previous experiment.

Judging from your reading score I’m guessing you have little problem with conflicting viewpoints. If you could post how you actually take the science test I could give you a few more pointers,and if it wouldn’t be to much trouble I could use some pointers on English because I have no idea what I’m doing wrong. (got a 28 with 15-15 subscores).

@QuadMaster For English, I highly recommend learning the finer grammar points, and especially reviewing common malapropisms (such as affect vs effect, lie vs lay, etc.) Above all, just stick with your gut feeling and look for the most concise answers.

Did anyone else acquire their ACT scores online today? Particularly anyone from Alabama?

Mine came in the mail, but I’m at school and can’t access them :(

@mixedberrysaurus‌ what state??

@imagineer10‌ Illinois!

@mixedberrysaurus‌ did u take the writing or did u take the ACT without the writing? Also what part of Illinois are u from?

@enginuity2015‌ 18 miles from St. Louis. I think everyone in the state took it with writing. I’m sure it’ll come soon for you! The ACT rep I emailed said most would take 4-5 weeks, but that there’s no cause for worry until 8 weeks after the date. :)

I am from the Chicago area and my teacher told me my score yesterday!! 36 and 12 on essay!

It’s just odd that all these people in Illinois have already received their scores but there is currently not a single person in my school that got their score back. This is so annoying, I wish I could just get my score back! And @Ginnymills‌ haha yeah I highly doubt that…

@enginuity2015‌ no I’m serious I got a 36 and 12 and also they randomly pick the schools
