Also if there’s gonna be a wave released later this week
@SuperBigMusicLover I would like to know that as well, do you think if we called them, they would answer?
@SuperBigMusicLover Have you guys been in contact with the admissions office?
@AwaitingApplicant131 I think so. In last year’s thread, someone called them and gave them information about the status of the waitlist.
@tbyrxx I emailed my regional admissions rep with a question about the waitlist and she emailed me back today. Other than that, I haven’t.
This is really stress inducing because they went to the waitlist so early this year but there hasn’t been a wave of offers yet…if there’s even gonna be any >.<
@SuperBigMusicLover Did she say if they are pulling more people off from the list? A lot of schools are going to the waitlist early this year, but IDK what that means though
@calintx Congratulations on getting accepted!!! How much did you expand on your love for Barnard in your essay? Was it like two pages or more? Also, how long was your letter of continued interest that you sent?
@tbyrxx I applied under the Barnard Opportunity Program, so I asked her if I was considered under the BOP pool or the regular applicant pool. She told me that I was on the waitlist for the regular applicant pool now (yikes) so I’m assuming that the waitlist is still active. I didn’t ask when they’d start pulling more ppl off
I’m sooO on this thread too much, but I just sent another loci to to Barnard. I included my efforts in mentoring other first gen students like myself and reaching out to trans advocates to establish gender neutral restrooms in my school district. idk I’m just praying for a miracle for all of us
@SuperBigMusicLover Me tooooo this is so nerve-wracking
Does anyone else have any updates???
Not really an update but I called them and they said the latest would be July and there’s no order to how they’re sending them out, just on a rolling basis.
Thank you so much for calling! @AwaitingApplicant131
Each time I check the Barnard class of 2023 instagram page, there are more and more followers
@tbyrxx Are they stating that they’re coming off of the waitlist?
At this point, I’m just kinda over the whole process
I’m not expecting anything but it would be an absolute dream to get off. I hate the school I’m going to. I’m planning on transferring out my sophomore year. Being accepted off the waitlist would just take a load off my shoulders since I have 0% intention to stay at my school. But this process didn’t go my way at all, so I’m not expecting anything good.
Would like to know more about that sophomore transfer option if anyone has any information.
@katnissjul sorry to hear that… what school is that?
@SuperBigMusicLover No I haven’t heard anything about that
Is it a good sign if your AO responds to your emails?
@tbyrxx maybe? I can tell you that mine never responds to me, only to my guidance counselors. I think it may depend on where you live though, I live in NJ, how about you?
@katnissjul – I think you are selling yourself short! I suspect you are an achieving student. Trouble with that accomplishment is, that the air is very thin on top. At your level the only “reach” schools left are often so highly selective that they objectively are not a “match” school for ANYONE – even for those with even more perfect SAT, ACT or GPAs than your own.
So here comes unusual advice: It may be time for you to actually permit yourself to “rest on your laurels”!
Chances are, whatever “match” schools you DID get accepted into are highly regarded schools, with great facilities, excellent faculty and with peers that are on par with you. It’s quite possible that in a year you will look back at courses you enjoyed, professors you loved and friends you made, realizing that you’ve found a home. And even if you decide to change schools then, you might have gained extra insights and you could be applying to completely different schools than the ones that only seem “perfect” today. You will also find out that some schools (like Barnard) are “need-aware” for incoming transfers, which raises the bar for some.
I fully understand your disappointment, but in the month of May your focus should turn towards getting the most out of your college experience – academically and socially. Building up so much negativity could easily become a self-fulfilling prophecy otherwise.
Remember: Reach schools are meant to be a healthy ambition – but it can be quite destructive, if you’ve allowed them to become an obsession.
@DigitalDad
I did get accepted to my match schools. The issue is, I could not afford any of them. I got into University of Rochester, Tulane, and University of Miami, all of which I would have been so happy going to. I applied to 17 colleges and ended up going to my 17th choice – a school I didn’t even want to apply to because I hated it so much. I’m absolutely miserable and cannot wait to get out.
I’ve been told by a lot of people to try to try out the school I’m going to before I judge, but after doing some ruminating by myself, thinking about my own happiness and not the thoughts of other people, this is absolutely not a place I would be happy spending the next 4 years of my life. I’m fully intent on transferring ASAP.
After talking to an MIT admissions counselor, I decided I am going to retake my ACT and 3 subject tests, try my best to get a 4.0 GPA in college, try to get involved with more and more activities (especially activism on issues I care about), and do my BEST to transfer.
I do appreciate the comment. These are hard times for all of us. I do promise, however, that my decision is well thought out.
