Does anyone know if Barnard will take anyone else from the waitlist?
@tbyrxx last time I called, they said the latest they would stop is July.
@AwaitingApplicant131 Thanks! From previous cc posts it says that they usually call tomorrow.
@vpa2019 Thank you! If it’s meant to be, it’ll happen, even if we can’t see why at the time it didn’t (hope that makes sense lol)
@tbyrxx - unfortunately, it will require more patience. They know how many spots they want to fill and I image they’ll start working the wait list. But some “first-rounders” may review the financial aid offer, consider all their options one final time, including any deposits they might lose, and ultimately decide against acceptance. Which explains why they would allow for a month before all these iterations are complete.
I suppose, the likelihood decreases with every week. At the same time, anyone who is firmly committed to accept unconditionally, could probably help their case if they made that clear to them at this stage…
@digitaldad Are you saying that they probably have made decisions already as to who will get off the waitlist?
No, I’m suggesting that there may have to be MORE than one round if some people can’t accept after they see their financial aid package, which would account for the fact that someone had reported having been told they don’t close the wait list until July.
By extension that would mean that not all hope is lost just because someone wasn’t already contacted this week (albeit, the likelihood is getting less with time, because now you’d have to hope that some other waitlisted person decided to forego the extended offer AND that you’re “next in line”).
Frankly, following this threat and reading everyone’s messages, I’ve come to realize how brutal this entire wait-list scheme is on those affected. At least airlines will let you know your spot on the wait list and how many seats are open, so that you have SOME measure of your chances and mentally prepare yourself…
@digitaldad this is really brutal but I am still hoping for the best. It is somewhat peculiar how no one (at least on CC) has been contacted yet and there has been a long pause in their waitlist offers. This is scaaaary :’(
@tbyrxx im from california!
same here ^^
@DigitalDad I can only speak from personal experience, but Barnard’s Financial Aid award was the most generous of any received. They met full need–which they calculated to be higher than FAFSA EFC because of the specific circumstances involved–and although they packaged a loan, it was nominal. Conversely, we were gapped by several other universities.
I think another reason they are going slow is that the current graduating class is exceptionally large and they had higher than expected yields in previous years. They may be trying to “balance” the overall number of students in the college.
Anything new?
No, not yet. I thought your comment was going to be good news
Has anyone heard anything yet?
I haven’t. It’s been awfully quiet
I just got accepted to one of my other dream schools!!! Good luck to all of you guys!!! I know this process is so stressful, but at the end the right school will come and everything will work out.
Seems like they’re in a holding pattern…which is a little troubling since they’ve known what the numbers are since May 1st
@tbyrxx Congrats! Where? Sorry, I’m really nosy?
@kathcoetzer99 Thanks! I got accepted to USC!!! Go Trojans!!! Its ok, I totally understand that this process is extremely nerve wrecking.
@tbyrxx congratulations!! ?
