@justjuliaa that sounds like a great idea! I definitely am going to do that. Thank you! I really appreciate it
@vpa2019 Okay that is good to hear. Thanks for the info! Greatly appreciated
Does anyone know about the deadline for interviews to be considered in admissions? I sent a request in October but never got an email back. And when I emailed admissions in early November, they told they would definitely let me know if I was unable to get an interview so I was just wondering. Thank you!
I think that the deadline was in November for off-campus interviews ^^
As far as I know interviews ended early December…you didn’t get an email from admissions saying that someone’s would contact you ? (An alumni)…it’s probably in your spam folder cause they email from their own email and not a Barnard email
yup, I for sure didn’t get an email. I searched up “interview” and “Barnard” but nothing new came up darn oh well I guess I’ll make do without the interview
@sanfrangirl same sitch here, however, judging by your handle, you’re also on the west coast (oregon here), so I think there’s some leniency because of our locations…
Guess, I recently applied and I’m nervous as hell. I know that someone from my school already got in ED. She’s nothing extraordinary, but I know that she had an expensive councellor from outside school. Is it basically impossible for me to get in now that there’s already a student from my school in, plus her application was probably well done?
It’s not impossible, maybe slightly harder but definitely not impossible. The year I applied, 3 of us were accepted and 2 attended. Best advice would be to not worry about her application; at this point, she’s been accepted and it’s done. Just know that you’ve done the best that you can and that you have as much of a chance as anybody.
I got an interview in November. I felt like the girl liked me but I don’t think made the impression I really wanted.
Hi guys. I just realized that Barnard wants applicants to take four years of foreign language, science, social science, math. Im in my senior year and I don’t have a foreign language this year because I finished Spanish, German, and French within 3 years. I didn’t explain my situation in my CA. Will Barnard think “why doesn’t the girl take other available languages at her school?” or will they be fine with me taking lots of languages before? Lol watch this be my doom.
Also guys, do you know what types of documents are allowed to be uploaded through the status portal’s Upload Materials place? Do you guys think I can upload a resume to supplement the stuff I missed in my CA? Or would the Ao think I’m being extra annoying if I do? Thanks.
@la petite crise cardique the Barnard website gives the following qualifier for supplemental materials. There’s no reference to resumes just portfolio type materials but something to keep in mind.
Please note: Supplementary material will not be reviewed by Barnard faculty, and unfortunately, during high volume periods, we cannot guarantee it will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee.
Also just my humble opinion but your language situation is somewhat unique in that you have 3 foreign languages…it might depend on how many years you took each one and what you chose to take in lieu your senior year. Most schools are looking for rigor…so 3 languages for 3 years is probably more than equivalent to one language for 4 years.
When I applied, I had only taken 3 years of Latin. I didn’t finish the language and I didn’t know any others, I just didn’t feel like taking Latin anymore lol. I was accepted so evidentially that didn’t matter too much. Those guidelines are just suggestions and aren’t always possiblw
@vpa2019 @mayaic4 Thanks guys. You guys make me feel less anxious about this. And congrats on your acceptance; hopefully I’ll see you there. Also, whenever they say “things will not be viewed during high volume period”, should we just assume that they won’t be viewed because we all know that application season is very busy for AOs? ?
Guys just wondering, could you be waitlisted during RD application? If you can, how does it work? Like don’t you have to respond to most colleges by May 1st? I’m confused.
@lapetitecrisecardiaque yes you can get waitlisted. Usually the way it works is you put down a deposit at a school you were accepted to (and want to attend ?) by May 1 but you keep in touch with the waitlisted school or schools you are interested in. You probably won’t hear from them (if they’re offering you a spot) until they sort their own acceptances and possibly as late as July or even August but most seem to try finalize by June 1 or so. If you are offered a spot then you withdraw from the school you chose by May 1 (but lose your deposit) and you give a new deposit and acceptance to the waitlisted school that gave you the offer. Hope that sort of makes sense ?
@vpa2019 That makes sense, thanks so much. Is it common to get waitlisted and accepted in RD? I don’t know anyone from previous years who got waitlisted at RD.
@lapetitecrisecardiaque unfortunately as far as I know there’s no “usual” or “common” protocol when it comes to how colleges use waitlisting. I believe many colleges do give stats on how many students are waitlisted and how many are taken from the waitlist in a given year but I don’t know how much those numbers vary from year to year. For example S17’s good friend was waitlisted at 2 of his top schools and was ultimately offered a spot at one but chose to go to one of the schools who extended an acceptance in April. My humble advice is if you are waitlisted at a school you absolutely love and you can afford to lose your deposit 1. it’s worth taking the time to reiterate to them that the school is your first choice and waiting to see how it works out but you’d still need to make a deposit by May 1; and 2. Notwithstanding number 1; some schools rank their waitlists so you’d be able to get a better sense of your chances of coming off the waitlist with an offer to attend and can then make a more informed decision of whether waiting is worth it. Sorry for the long post ?
