For example, the 2017-2018 CDS shows that Barnard admitted 1190 students, and waitlisted 1703 students – so they waitlisted far more than they accepted. Of that group, 1222 accepted spots on the waitlist — meaning that even after some students left the waitlist, there were still more students on the waitlist than the total number of admitted students.
So the chances of being waitlisted were higher than the chances of being admitted RD (especially when you account for ED students) Section C21 of the CDS shows 289 students were admitted ED – so if you subtract that from the total number of admitted students, that leaves only 901 students admitted RD – and close to twice as many waitlisted.
In the end, only 51 of the waitlisted students were admitted. So that means that less than 3% of waitlisted students ended up at Barnard.
On the other hand, when all was said and done, there were 595 students enrolled – and 8.6% of those students had come from the waitlist.
But those numbers vary from year to year. I think you can reasonably expect that as Barnard’s acceptance rate declines, the number of students offered waitlist spots will increase – but there is no telling from one year to the next whether or how many students will end up being accepted from the waitlist.
Hi! I’ve also applied to Barnard for RD and I was wondering how many ED students were accepted. Because that may be a factor as to how many RD applicants are accepted. Also good luck to you all!!
@bookboozer The number of applicants that applied ED increased 24% and very few were admitted during the ED round. Therefore, it is very safe to say that the number of RD applicants will increase as well and very few will be admitted. The acceptance rate is going to significantly drop this year
@bookboozer I think so as well. I submitted a w2 form a few days before it did that, and I also applied for a program that has a financial requirement so that may be why as well :-?
I also have submitted the required tax forms (I’m international so I wouldn’t have the w2) but maybe they’ll just review international students in a different pool.
I really don’t know
@vpa2019 ik that but I was wondering if it’s possible for both to occur or is it if you’re deferred you will get a definitive answer when RD decisions come out. Should have worded my question more clearly that’s my bad
@ccgf01 sorry if I misunderstood too. If you’re deferred you will receive a definitive answer once the RD decisions are released - hopefully an acceptance but could also be a waitlist or a rejection.
Does anyone know when RD decisions have come out in the past? They said late march on their website, but I was hoping someone could add something a little more specific from past reference. Are we looking at the last two weeks of March? April 1st like some of the other more competitive schools? My spring break is the last week of March and I’m really looking to find out if I’ll be able to just wallow in self pity and ice cream if/when I get rejected lol
