Books That Suck

Great Expectations. It is pretty good, but for the life of me, I have not been able to get through that book for 5 years. I read it like half way, and then get bored/some other book that is way mor einteresting comes along. Then I decide to re read it later on, and the same thing happens.

How did you know I was going to say Great Expectations! Worst. Book. Ever. The premise is crap and the writing style couldn't be more dry and boring.

Can we stop with the HP bashing... snfff snff :hugs book:

I'm not a fan but god, it's not THAT bad of a book.

princessbell not a bad name youself ...we should hook up what do you look like and what is your favorite novella? ( trying to be intellectual- how long can I keep it up) hahaha

three words:

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE

ohhh my god, don't even get me started. oh, and a separate peace was useless, too.

goldilocks and the three bears

^ i liked that story..

Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.

Oh yes...the horror of reading this book when I was 14. Ugh.

Another one to consider: One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich
God, this book bored me to tears.

I had an Eng Lit teacher last year who got all her books from the Oprah Winfrey booklist! All of her exam questions came off the website. She didnt think anyone knew. What a loser. The class was more like a book club for old ladies talk about water torture. And heres a contemporary favorite Secret Life of Bees all the ugly girls in the class liked the book. IT SUCKED.

Great Gatsby was kind of dull, and the ideas presented in it were pretty depressing. It took me several months to finish that book, and I'm never reading another book by a Lost Generation author again.

The only book I have ever found a chore completing is Tess of the D'Urbervilles. However, I think it has more to do with the fact that I read it when I was perhaps too young and couldn't appreciate it for what it was. I'm sure if I reread it now, I'd find it much less tiresome and boring than I did a few years ago.

As far as books that suck, I'm going to have to go with Dan Brown's books. They're incredibly predictable and lacking in validity.

I personally love Steinbeck, but I know a lot of people who despise his writing style. Can someone explain their beef with Steinbeck to me? I've never particularly understood it.

Canterbury tales / Beowulf

I win!

On The Road

Hah.. I keeed.

Just about any fiction book. The most egregious transgressions are Don Quijote and Great Expectations, but the worst genre is romance.

^

Agreed.

Romance novels always seem so bland, monotonous, and predictable -- yet they almost always recieve critical acclaim, and always on th "best-sellers" list.

grapes of wrath, the adventures of huck finn, great expectations, animal farm and lord of the flies. get them all away from me.

Romance novels are hilarious. Just reading the back cover can make great entertainment. But it's usually not long before the humor wears off-- these books make me sad for girls who think that this kind of crap is real in any sense (and I'm a girl).

I dislike Steinbeck because I find his stories boring and his writing style not particularly memorable. Grapes of Wrath was a bad one...

The worst book ever is A Thousand Acres. Great Expectations is close though.

L.O.D. series

A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man stinks like rotten cheese
