@capittss Why are you freaking out?? Everything you just wrote seems impressive! I don’t want to give anybody false hope, because anything can happen, whether you’re the best applicant with perfect stats and ECs, or whether you’re below average. These things really aren’t predictable, but I can tell you that you have no reason to worry! Besides, decisions will be out this week! Good luck

@capittss I think you have a good chance, especially with legacy and your stats seem to be in range. What school did you apply to? Were you deferred EA or did you not apply EA?

WRT to legacy, I’m going to quote of the words of a long time respected contributor to this BC forum, scottj.

*The tradition of legacy is not only tied to previous attendance, but also on-going involvement (strong alumni community) and also to some extent contributions to the school’s calls (scholarships, endowments and such). In closing, legacy is a feather that can tilt the application scale while your own application is a brick. *

@collegemomjam‌ I applied to BC regular decision; the other schools I applied to were UGA, UVM, USC (South Carolina), Washington U in St. Louis, and Bucknell (also RD). I just found out I was waitlisted from WashU a couple days ago, but I was fine with that considering it was my reach school and their acceptance rate is about 15% (half of BC’s).

If you guys had to guess which day BC is e-mailing decisions, which date would you say?

@SMarie101‌ I’m betting on either the 19th or 20th but no one knows for sure. :frowning:

@SMarie101‌ my best guess would be the 20th. Colleges like to release on Fridays so people have the weekend to calm down before contacting admissions. And the 20th falls near the middle of that 18th-23rd window they mentioned. But, who knows! Crazy things happen

@capittss that’s a great list, I’m sure you will have your pick. Wash U was crazy hard this year to get in so a waitlist there is actually really good! Which college at BC did you apply to? CSOM, A&S, Nursing, or Education? CSOM as you know is the hardest.

I think the decisions are getting more and more hardcore as colleges care more about rankings than accepting students because they’re good enough… Smaller admissions rate means higher ranking, apparently… I remember reading this one article on Washington Post (“Higher education isn’t in crisis” by Janet Napolitano) that quoted someone in the education sector “that American universities have too many non-education-related expenses bundled into their cost models [which he described as] 4 R’s: rankings, which force all universities into “pernicious isomorphism” (i.e. unnecessary duplication); real estate, or absurdly expensive campus buildings, especially dorms and dining halls; rah, an awkward alliteration that refers to intercollegiate athletics, especially Division I football and basketball; and research, which he asserts subordinates teaching and is mostly superfluous.” The article itself is about the unnecessary expenses, but you can kinda see why colleges may favor one applicant over another for ridiculous reasons/ reject qualified applicants for the sole purpose of raising its ranking.

TL;DR - College admissions are getting ridiculous each year and let’s all admit it. I just wanted to throw this out here. Stay positive guys. You guys have stats WAAAAY higher than me and you guys are freaking out haha.

Sorry, this question may have been answered already but I was wondering how much of an affect legacy has at BC. I’ve heard that it is considered from some and that it isnt from others. Would love some feedback

I’m hoping for the 18th [-O<

@justinn76 I know, me too :weary: It helps knowing that I’m not going through it alone, though. Were you deferred from EA?

@SMarie101‌ Nope just a regular decision applicant for CSOM. Wbu?

@justinn76‌ I applied to A&S Early Action and was deferred; the wait has been brutal.

@st0rm legacy helps a little. Maybe not help a student without the stats but if you are on the fence it might help tip you to the right side. That’s seems to be the general consensus. I believe they put legacy students in a separate pile also but not sure. Regardless, I think all apps are reviewed very fairly at BC.

I agree with @collegemomjam I think if you have the stats to get in, but you could go either way, the legacy aspect will help you out. It can’t tip the scales completely, but if you’re a legacy applicant, it gives you more of an edge.
