I heard that the typical Brown students is a spoiled brat who likes to pretend she’s a hippie but is constantly spending her parent’s money.

I think stereotypes exist for every school...but I can honestly say that of every school I have visited, the students at Brown have been the least pretentious and all around COOLEST!!!! So yeah, I don't believe it!

I'd say 75% of Brown students come from family incomes of $100,000+ because that's what my guidance counselor said who's daughter currently attends Brown but I heard the figure was higher for other ivies. It doesn't matter though, just because you've got money doesn't necessarily mean you're a snob.

I think that would describe a lot of people at any private school. That being said, I never found Brown students pretentious. I'm going there and I have a job because my parents don't give me money. If rich, prep school types turn you off so much, you'll have to cross off all ivies, most of the top 25 universities, most LACS...or you could just get to know the actual people.

the school is big enough for u to find your niche...i wouldn't worry too much bout the other ppl...they dont bite :p

Nicky, cooler than Cornell?

I guess there is a grain of truth in that. Brownians are known to be the more 'liberal' and 'quirky' bunch in the Ivy League, but underneath it, prestige and wealth is there.

I went to Dartmouth and there were plenty of there types as well. Sometimes from CRAZY money. Unavoidable.

Liberal is ok, but absurd PC (eg, Wesleyan) is not. Is Brown really PC (I hope not, because it seems like a great school.)

Its much more relaxed PC than Wesleyan...

Yeah, sorry dudes but Brown peeps are wayyyyy cooler than Cornell peeps!!!!!!!!! :D

Well, I have to be thinking that Brown is a school full of rich kids because they offer no scholarships and it costs like 40,000+ a year.

Not necessarily at all. Financial Aid at all the ivies more than covers the costs. And they have "financial aid" scholarships. Loans in turn can be relatively small. My girlfriend paid something like 5K/ year out of pocket for Dartmouth.

for real cause i am BROKE

but i'm still going to Brown in the fall :D and it def. isn't costing me much at all

Oh, did President Simmons decide not pay reparations to the descendants of Rhode Island slaves? I'm glad to hear it.

RI didn't have slaves, silly. Even in the 16/1700s.

I hate to break it to you, Amor. But, Rhode Island was at the center of the American slave trade well into the 1700s. And the Brown family, in particular were up to their necks in it.

Oh god man, you obviously know nothing about the committee. read up on it before you make statements like brown is paying reparations to decendents of rhode island slaves, please. don't misinform.

I'm new at this. What's a PC?

Political Correctness
